There was a time, long ago, when RAF fighter pilots did have fun with their jets and managed to do so without falling foul of either their lordships or the general public. Moreover, they improved their operational capabilities and knowledge of their own limitations in the process without too many expensive accidents.

Nowadays the unholy combination of too many poor senior officers, a peacetime tree-hugging pinko-lefty public and a disgustingly hypocritical media all combine to crucify any self-respecting fighter pilot caught having fun.

For what it’s worth, that’s what I see nowadays.
