Vor Stuff

When flying VOR radials inbound for an approach to the airfield when you select the radial on your OBS(or whatever you have) for the intercept is the radial true or mag on the display? Where I am at the mo has 3 degree east variation and aircraft reporting 6 degree error. Would mag/true make a difference on selecting the radial. I don't think so, you simply put in the radial as displayed on the TAP chart?? Ive got a UK IMC Rating but don't recall variation being in the equation!! You fly the radial with drift and whatever hdg that gives you? My boss thinks its a variation thing but I say not. Thought Id ask the pros.

Variation is taken care of on a VOR so you just dial up the radial as given and think nothing more of it. The only time it isn't is in some places where variation is cchhhhuuuge, eg some VORs in Canada are aligned to True North. Those that are aligned to True state as much on the chart.
