The tonka that did the flybe then flew past me and my mate who where in a glider out of Halton, was a mega sight and just wanted to call the pilot and say thanks!

This thread reminds me of this old 'un:
Aircraft: 'I'm p*ssed off.'
ATC: 'Aircraft calling, say your callsign.'
Aircraft: 'I'm not that p*ssed off.'
So whoever you are stay mum, especially if it was a bad show.

OP, use your common sense.
Nobody is going to give you, even through a private e-mail, the name of anyone in the forces regardless of who they are or what they were doing. This protocol stretches into civvie street as well. Its called privacy and respect and above all else, security (both service and personal).
Secondly, the chances of the actual pilot or nav reading your message and then responding to an anonymous poster is less then nil.
