The future of crew safety
A fellow pruner wondered if it was possible for a thread to develop without the ususal Bullsh1t from a few contributors. Well here is my effort.
The future of ejection seats.
Since 1946 Matin Baker furniture has saved more than 7000 aircrew from knocking on the pearly gates. Other manufacturers have also had many successes. But where do we go from here.
Envelopes have been expanded.
Comfort has increased.
Response times have improved from the older cartridge and cable seats.
Computers have speeded up and regulated seat responses.
The Russians even introduced auto eject in the Kamov!!!( The pilot was removed from the ejection equation in certain circumstances).
Parachutes have been improved.
Survival aids and comms have improved.
The evolution of e seats in the UK is fairly logical and we are now up to the Mk 16 seat. Some (but not many) of the ideas born in the Mk 1 seats are still visible in this new seat. But what should the Mk 17 seat include. Im sure that MBA are designing it now, but who knows what will be included.
What is left for the seat manufacturers/ developers/designers to consider?
Are crew worn harnesses better than the seat mounted harneses or vice versa...discuss.
What as users would you like to see in an ejection sysyem? (serious answers please) No, I do not work in the e seat trade, but am just curious.
