And this Forum belongs to?

Without wanting this on the Rememberance thread as it is a most respectful collection of comments, but within it (page 1) a certain 'Pub User' quotes:

'This is a pilot's forum.....'

Call me touchy, but.... comments on a postcard please.

Whilst I think I understand what Pub User was getting at I don't agree with the idea of this being a pilots only forum. It does say Military Aircrew though I think its even wider than that, and long may it remain so.

There are closed forums available (sites other than pprune) for mil pilots. By invitation only........

I think keeping this 'open' is a good idea - we can chat about 95% of the stuff we wish to on here. The rest can stay in the crew room and the closed forums/sites.

It's great to get input from so many people with a variety of backgrounds.

Hmmm, can't understand why some people get a bit precious about non mil aircrew using PPrune. After all there are many different threads to choose from, if a thread is not to taste, then why 'click' it. Like it or not, personnel from the wider RAF also seem to want to use this forum as well. After all, there's no I in Team Sorry!

Didn't realise this was just blurb, more fool me for believing it. Sorry, I guess all of us non UK, non crab types should s*d off and leave you dullards to chat amongst yourselves. Still, if you light blue types can't handle proper banter...
Perhaps I have missed something, but I think Quagger and most others agree it should be open to all

can't handle proper banter
Bring it on

My point, that I obviously didn't make very well; is that everyone with an interest in RAF/mil aviation should feel free to use this forum.

Jungly, I'm with you. Military Aircrew means just that, but ALL the other threads are what they are. What about Wannabes etc ? The site may have begun as a professional Pilot's thing but it's expanded since then.

By the way, I was an Army NON COMMISSIONED pilot and have been flying alongside civilian and ex military (of all three services and many nationalities) for a long time.

Long may it be so. This site is not for snobs or the narrow minded.

Having seen previous posts of yours I am left wondering exactly what it is that you have against a) aircrew and b) the RAF. Banter is all very well, but I clearly I was under the misapprehension that one of the points of banter was to amuse as well as to poke fun. Perhaps you should work on this side of your 'banter' rather than directing a (seemingly) constant tirade against the RAF.

Personally I've never flown anything but a PC and I'm very glad this forum exists. I'll never have the money to learn to fly and I'm too old, too fat and too lazy to join up. However I do have an avid interest in most things that fly and being able to ask questions of those people who are skilled enough and lucky enough to fly military aircraft makes my boring little world a tad more interesting. If anyone on this forum considers my questions banal then feel free to say so but remember that I reserve the right to consider such a person to be rude and therefore beneath my dignity!

I'm not RAF, not military, not even aircrew... i'm what has been described as a 'wannabe'.

Sorry if my questions inconvenience so many of you, but for those offering advice I am extremely grateful.

Should I now consider myself unwelcome in the Mil Aircrew forum and PPRuNe in general?

Purteenlard/Joe2182,
I'm pretty sure the moderators (though I'm not one and I'm just airing my views as anyone else is entitlied to do), would agree that you are very welcome on any thread. There are plenty of private sites for snobs who who don't want their views and (oh, dare I say) imperfections to be seen by "outsiders". Stay in and enjoy !!

Having been on the receiving end of comments from some (presumably) mil types who disliked my viewpoint it does seem that a closed thread would be innapropriate. For those that want a closed thread - is it because you can't stand questions/criticism? I bet you hide behind your badges of rank to stop such things happening in your own little world. Welcome to the real world. Long may we have open forums.

Blimey - the mention of closed threads here has certainly got a couple of guys feathers in a ruffle! I might have missed it (I sometimes do), but has anyone on this particular thread said that they think it should be closed?

Why does the idea that some operators have a private site / thread or whatever get so (very obviously!) under your skin? I assume because you are not inculded ;-) Why sweat it, there are surely more important things to get tense about!

If people wish to keep stuff private, then that is their right.

detgnome,

I would have thought his user name might have given you a clue

...as for whose forum it should be? well since I am not military (I was a Killick Weapon's tiff in RNR many moons ago just like WEBF - D'OH! - but that doesn't count ) I would say that it should be regulated by the Fly boys and girls. But I also must say that it will be a sad day when non-flyers get blocked out. After all there have been some pretty good posts from this sector of folk.

Pureteenlard.

You express yourself very well and I doubt that the regular and equally articulate guys and girls on Mil would argue that you have a right to be here.

None of the forums on PPRuNe are exclusive to any one type over another. Indeed, it is the fact that they are open to everyone which makes them so interesting.

We do, of course, get the knockers and those with insular views but hey, that makes the world go round. We also get those who are thouroughly stupid who promote terrible questions and answers but we get around the site pretty quickly and stamp on it if we have to.

By and large PPRuNe is a place to honestly rant, rave and have fun and we do get to see the start of some fabulous threads.

For me an ex mil, I enjoy the people here as well as all over PPRuNe. So far, 6 years of pleasure - most of the time.

Hey this is all getting a bit heavy.

Always thought of this forum as like a happy hour or an open day. Unmoderated (or rather self-moderated) and open to anyone who wants to converse on anything to do with military aviation (however tenuously) of whatever nationality or cap badge.

And just like converstaions in happy hours etc - if you don't like it, you don't have to join in! Argumentum ad hominen is as out of place here as it is anywhere civilised, and there have been great contributions from conspicuously non-military people; it would be a lesser forum without the presence of (for example) Jackonico or WEB Fan . Even the sainted Danny has graced us at times.

So let 'em all come in, and do keep the banter funny.......

Even BEags , that grumpiest of grumpy old men, said in a previous thread that it should remain open......
