New Army Personnel Reduction Measures

Just announced by MOD...

As a result of MOD proposed force reductions and budget cuts, Land Staff has developed a program to reduce the number of personnel. This programme is under test phase and will take effect 1 April 2004. Under this new programme older soldiers will be asked to go on early retirement, thus permitting the retention of the younger soldiers who represent the future. Therefore this programme will phase out older soldiers by the end of the fiscal year 2004. This initial phase of the programme will be known as SLAP (Soldier Late Aged Programme). Soldiers who are SLAPPED will be given the opportunity to look for jobs outside the Army.

SLAPPED soldiers can request a review of their personnel records before actual retirement takes place. This phase is called SCREW (Survey of Capabilities of Retired Early Workers). All soldiers who have been SLAPPED or SCREWED may file an appeal with their chain of command with final authority the ADM HR (MIL) level. This is called SHAFT (Study by Higher Authority Following Termination). Under the terms of the new policy, a soldier may be SLAPPED once, SCREWED twice, but may also be SHAFTED as many times as the Army deems appropriate. If a soldier follows the above procedures, he/she will be entitled to get HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance) or CLAP (Combined Lumpsum Assistance Payment), unless he/she already has AIDS (Additional Income from Dependants or Spouse). As HERPES and CLAP are considered benefit plans, any soldier who has received HERPES or CLAP will no longer be SLAPPED or SCREWED by the Army.

The Army wishes to assure the younger soldiers who remain on board that the Army will continue its policy of training soldiers through our Special High Intensity Training (SH1T). This Army takes pride in the amount of SH1T our soldiers receive. We have given our soldiers more SH1T than any other service. If any soldier feels that they do not receive enough SH1T at their current unit, see your immediate supervisor. YOUR SUPERVISOR IS SPECIALLY TRAINED TO MAKE SURE YOU RECEIVE ALL THE SH1T YOU CAN STAND!
