Angry RAF budget cuts: a proposal

Rather than just bitchin' on and on about these cuts, why don't we just do something about it? I recon a big group of us telling Tony Blair to reconsider would have little weight if we just wrote and asked nicely. Why don't we write letters, send them to Mr Blair and various newspapers, then arrange a suit and tie visit to see and talk to the man himself? Perhaps we could even get Geoff Hoon as well. Any feedback would be great. I was thinking sometime before the end of April.

Lets do this!
Someone needs to remind him that without armed forces we can't really fight any wars effectively...

(the extent of the cuts is 1.2bn, with all the sea kings, harriers, and gazzelles going the way of third world countries, and then some more bases closing including RAF Wittering and Cottishall.. Not forgetting that they already want to close Lyneam!)

You could count me in. Perhaps we need someone to co-ordinate something like this, however? There must be someone on PPRuNe willing to stand up and have their name put forward?

Very good idea. A harrier pilot or someone if there is one willing to do so. That will speak volumes as they are planning to scrap them all!

I know I'd be happy to add my name and face to any move to speak to those in power. While not in favour of a revolution, I think it'd be good to "have a word" before these cuts become policy. I know a lot of my colleague would feel the same; and it would appear we're about to have a few dozen potential FJ mates who'd be happy to stand up and be counted as of next week....?

It definately looks that way. If you read the Telegraph, they have a whole thing in there which dictates exaclty what they are going to do. Sods! The Falklands will probably be sold as well knowing Tony Bliar (intentional mistake)

I personally like the idea that was floated on ARRSE a while back.

As we are military, we can be postal voters. You tell them where you want to be registered as a postal voter. Where you want.

Anyone else fancy a change to Sedgefield - the home patch of Bliar? I really really like this one - legit but subversive. Another 30000 voters on his patch might make for interesting results methinks.

Now that does sounds interesting. Never been on the electoral roll as I never saw the point, but this sounds like a fine idea!

Sorry Mr Hinecap

I'm old enough to remember when somebody tried to organise this for Huyton - Harold Wilson's constituency. So in the finest traditions of moving the goalposts - they did! IIRC you must have some connexion with an actual address in the constituency to register as a postal voter, must have lived there or show evidence that you are going to live there, so I think it ain't gonna work

Anyone there in an Admin Office who knows the current rules??
