Evidently I'm first to stack

Reduction in IPS to 40, and reduction of ITT to 100. Holds won't clear until some ridiculous year unless something's done.

Approximately 1/3rd of those in the hold to be restreamed, everyone'll go through a "Streaming Confirmation Board" either tomorrow or prior to their grad.

Those who don't go to Valley will mostly go to a METS short course, bypassing the extending hold for MELIN. A "small number," apparently volunteers, will go to DHFS.

No-one's being made redundant, and unfortunately no-one's giving us £200k.

Already rumours are around as to whether he said "1/3rd" or "20" won't go to Valley.

Any gen on the timescale for these measures to return the FJ trg system to 'Normal', and what that norm will be?

A thirds better than half but that's no consolation if you happen to be in that number... good luck everyone with the restreaming boards and comiserations to those on the wrong side of the line.

For my own benefit does this third to be reboarded and restreamed only apply to those pre-AFT or will those pre-BFJT also lose a third?

On the brightside though, at least from what 5F6B said they didn't mention deskjobs.

Above gen is true.

-Approx 1/3 of 43 guys (Holding for Valley and just about to finish Tucano) to go ME/RW

-Streaming confirmation boards will now be a standard thing at the end of BFJT

-Possible shafting for guys waiting for ME (post-EFT) in the form of a huge hold

-No sign of redundancies

-No guarantee of a cockpit if subsequently chopped from valley

-And definitiely no sign of £200K

Outcome will be disclosed on April 15th, should be to tell us then our next step and hopefully our next course dates.

That's about it.

good luck to all...

TF

No mentions of anything pre-EFT, although someone did ask a question on your behalf...!

It seemed implied that less people would come to Linton in general; course sizes here have already fallen, so that makes sense.

To whoever asked about when the norm would return, it looks like something around 40 IPS for the forseeable future. Streaming confirmation boards will stay for at least a year; which is about the time until the first new 6-man Linton course graduates. If we do this, the "backlog" is cleared by 2007 apparently.

Sorry to appear a n00b, but what are IPS and ITT in this context?

Any indication of whether the reductions in volume being employed to clear the "backlog" is gonna cause shortfalls at frontline?

Kudos to whoever asked about pre-EFT for all us anxious IOTers

5F6B,

Thanks for asking for us. I'm not pre-EFT but pre-BFJT having already been streamed hence wondering if or when it would affect us/me. Presumably if I do still go to Linton I'll be on one of the new 6-man courses you spoke of, fingers crossed.

Good luck,

Ant

Wink

Well bngger me with a fish fork, looks like multies was the way to go! I wouldnt fancy walking the fast jet training tight rope without the cosy safety net of Helos or ME for all the pies in lyneham now.
Good luck you brave boys- Fighter Ace or Pen Pushing Bluntie. It takes big hairy balls to make that sort of all-out gamble. Ask the chaps recently chopped GR4s, who have been hung out to dry, what they would do in your position knowing what they know now.

This all sounds achingly familiar to the early to mid 90's ("Death Before Rotary" Course badge anyone???), and the joy of having to finish Linton before you got streamed (Which was why it was called BASIC FLYING TRAINING in the first place, because it was considered essential to get a good look at an individual to assess them and their fitness to go to any of the 3 streams, only for it then to become "You must pass the whole course to Valley entry standard to get Group 2 or 3).

I really feel for those guys who are going to get re-streamed and am very glad that the rumours about offering ground branch or out of the Sevice turned out to be false.

Good luck to all of you in whatever you end up (Having been rotary for a number of years and now being a multis man, all I can say is you will almost certainly have fun wherever you end up as long as you can remember to keep smiling every time the powers that be start trying to insert the proverbial chair leg where the sun doesn't shine!!!

This will ot be the last time the threat of not having a job next week or next year will hang over most of you, but remember, as evidenced by all the happy memories people write on these pages, that for most people the good times outweighed the bad.

Thanks DPH!

So would 100 ITT and 40 IPS imply that only 40% of students are gonna be passed?

For RobinXe

ITT = Into Training Target - the number of pilots (or any other branch) required/expected to start training at any particular stage.

IPS = Into Productive Service - the number required to get all the way through training and become operational on the sqn in order to maintain the required number of pilots on the front line.

So the ITT for each stage of training allows for wastage (aka chopped students) so that the number of students completing that phase is equal to the ITT for the next phase - and eventually so that the output of the OCUs equals the IPS requirement. Obviously, if the IPS changes - for example if the governments reduces the number of front line sqns! - then the IPS will change, and the ITTs will also have to reduce. - Like now!!

Similarly, if the quality of the training improves, or the standard of the students gets better, so that there are less failures during training, then the ITT required for a given IPS will also reduce!

Thanks Mach2, makes sense that way, I know I wasnt the only one wondering

Sadly it sounds like some people will have to end up heartbroken in the current situation, heres hoping that things come good for everyone in the end.

Don't know how the RAF fu*ked this up so badly in the first place. 33% chop in one swoop is massive and indicates to me that the people in charge should have taken control of this situation a long time ago, perhaps by reducing the Linton intake gradually, rather than ruining people career hopes. That only makes for poor morale and major chips on shoulders. Id be pissed if I was in that 3rd, it seems all to be a question of timining and being in the wrong stage at the wrong time. However the British Gov is nortorious for treating the forces like sh*t, unlike in the USA, so perhaps its not all the head RAF shed's fault.

Hey 5F6B, good to hear from you again One thing I heard on the grape vine was that Linton courses were going to get smaller in the future (read 3 or 4 maybe)

How do you think this bodes for future intakes and pilot wannabee's ???

All bad news or give it a few years, is it worth applying now for GD(P) or shall i take another trade then try a branch change ??

Hey Spacer, nice to see you too! To the best of my knowledge, Linton courses aren't currently planned to drop below the current 6-8 odd.

And I'd never do a branch change; why apply for something you don't want? More chance of getting into a jet cockpit as a pilot than there is as a controller.

So things really haven't changed that much from the situation a few years ago: if you get chopped at Linton in the future you may not get a chance at RW/ME.... and streaming is effectively now after Linton, except for those who have elected to go ME/RW early.

Commiserations to all those who are about to have bad news given to them.

By all means be p****d off, but in all seriousness, do your best not to become bitter. Probably hard advice to stomach right now, but if you go to Cranwell/Shawbury with a chip (or two) on your shoulder(s), then you'll just set yourselves up for even more heartache. Many ex-FJ studes have found themselves on Ground/Character & Leadership warnings because of precisely that....

Life outside a FJ cockpit may appear like a poor option for most of you at the moment, but if you go with an open mind, you may just be pleasantly surprised to find that life in a ME/RW cockpit can be just as rewarding, and certainly infinitely better than life behind a desk.

Shawbury/DHFS is an awesome course, and a night out in Shrewsbury is soooo much better than the Octopig in Bangor!
