FC future

Yes, the current plan is as follows:

Neatishead will close when Colt closes
Boulmer will pick up some responsibility whilst Buchan is being refurbished
Once that is complete, because of the advances in technology, the entire UK can be covered from Buchan and the entire FC branch will move en-masse to Buchan. The advantage is that Buchan is a self-contained station (unlike Neat) and there is political pressure to keep a Scottish base open (to compensate for the closure of a.n.other Scottish stn)

Simple but so smart

Doing it under ground.

Jack-K,

Dude, I'm not sure which rumour you've heard but it's 180 degrees out to what I've been told. Neat shuts in June to move to Boulmer. What happens then is all conjecture. Possibilities are moving to an above ground facility at Scampton and then who knows? Moving en masse to Buchan? That will be popular - not.

Talking

I suspect that jack-k may be extracting the urine just a little...

I'd heard that the entire FC branch were being moved en masse to Mount Kent in the FI from when they will run the UKADGE via the internet

Either way,

They have forgotten the lessons of Linesman Mediator and all your eggs in one basket at West Drayton and that was a White Elephant, luckily the MRS's and SOC's saved their bacon.

Times have changed , but the principle has not.

Its about time they stopped re-inventing the wheel

This stirred some old memories, is Staxton still whizzing round? Spent a lot of my youth there.

Talking UK CRC

Actually Stop Start, the latest rumour is that the UK CRC is going to be in one of the SBAs - apparantly there's some sort of recruitment problem in the FC world, and the powers that be care so much about us that they are willing to take this radical step...

No, wait, I must be typing this in a dream

BTW Polomint, you're not in the Ops Room now, so STOP SHOUTING

Life will get so booooring for ATC without the challenges of trying to liaise with the FC types over the North Sea who only seem to know:

"my traffic operating sea level to FL 300 RIS - I'll call you in!" mmmm how does that work then in Class B airspace!

Neatishead to Close - Official?

Rej,

I trust you had your supervisor raise the issue with the FA at Neatishead?

Back to the thread.

A new (non-RAF) guy has just arrived on the patch. He is here temporarilty and is able to be given a FQ because there are some surplus. His 10-year old son told me yesterday that DHE had told his Dad that Neatishead was going to close so there would be no problem with his being allocated a surplus FQ.

So, it's official then!?!?

No bull**** here is the pukka gen.

Scampton is certainly in the frame OFFICIAL.

The CAS says he has NOT heard of any of the rumours - FACT.

I have it on the best authority that lots of options are being looked at - PRETTY GOOD FACT.

Conclusion: If the CAS does NOT know who is actually running the air force? A Brown blear or a buffoon?

I heard it was a cunning plan to isolate you further from the rest of the airforce! Oh you already are....

Pontius, would these facts be like asking a certain 1* in 1Gp that the Jags will start going from 31st Jan 05 with him denying it and saying no firm decisions have been made as to when????

What must be of concern is the effect on the local economy if both Neatishead and Coltishall close. The effect is not just that of the RAF disappearing from the area, but the knock-on to many small traders and businesses that rely on the air force for their existence. Yes, there is a good trade in tourism in the area, but precious little else except the Bacton gas terminal.

If past RAF base closures are anything to go by the Army could well move into Coltishall.

Hot frame is ASACS to Scampton and, as siad before, will probably be related to other moves and closures. No guarantee of a move to sunny Lincs before 05 or 06 though.

Buy your house in Norwich <g>.

In Jun '64 crews coming to Coningsby from Finningley were assurred - Coningsby will NOT close.

I subsequently saw SECRET minutes discussing the closure pre-dating this assurrance. It was done to preserve the secrecy of the super-white detergent. It might be argued that the closure was only planned to be temporary while the runway was re-surfaced and only became permanent in Nov 64 when they actually moved to Cottesmore and started to get ready for TSR2.

Back to Norwich, you should be able to get a couple of years of house price inflation under your belt.
