Hullavington

Can anyone confirm whether the MOD plan to sell Hullavington at the end of the year or is this another rumour?

This has been a rumour since I was with the VGS 5 years ago.

It's a perfect site for the Logistics people, purpose built accom, loads of undercover storage out on the airfield in those lamella hangars, hard surfaces for driver training, a runway big enough for hercs, a railway at the airfield, close to the M4, near Salisbury Plain, near Lyneham, near Brize, refurbished married quarters, nice part of the world.....

It's a perfect defence establishment - of course the dozy tw*ts will sell it off for instant profit.

Welcome to the world of the accountant - we know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.........

Thanks Arclite for your reply. Do you know the runway length/LDA/TORA etc?

I think the main drag was approx 1500m and the short run 1200m. There is a hangar at one end of the main drag and a fence on the short run. No probs for hercs/helos/glider or light aircraft

It has problems though - the surfaces are breaking up now and it's technically closed to non-authorised traffic and it's just inside Lyneham MATZ. The grass is rough as the brushwood drains are rotting down and this gives a very undulating surface in places.

Drop zone during the week for troops and pallets. Helo traffic also common operating on UHF.

Unwanted visitors are given short shrift by the Army during the week and by the VGS at weekends.

No services are available.

I think thats all I can remember.

Why ?

TORA and LDA, etc, will no longer exist as the place has been effectively shut for years, ie un-licensed.
