NOW HEAR THIS - All You Salt's and Grunt's.
http://www.midcoast.com/~sandrayo/pipes.html
The Boatswain's pipe (or call) dates back to and before the days of wooden-walled ships firing broadsides of red-hot round shot, when the Boatswain's Mate was a rough, roaring shellback. It had very definite practical uses in the days of sail. Men high on the royal and topgallant yards could hear its piercing call rising above the decks. In the wind ship days, merchant as well as naval vessels carried piping Boatswain's Mates; but the pipe has long since ceased to be a feature of anything but a man-of-war.
Turn your speakers up and click on the calls.
Bugle Calls:

Marches:

I'd like to find others that can be played on my PS speakers.
Anybody?

This is light stuff, but I thought it might belong here.
Don't tell me you can't associate anything on this thread with Military Aviation.

Smedely, great stuff mate, I thoroughly enjoyed it. My old man was a cornet player in the Army many moons ago and it brought back a few memories for him when I played it .
Impiger, what has it to do with aviation?? Who cares!!

Impiger - OK, "You are a bluff old traditionalist ". There!
Living in a hotel in London. Life is good. I recall an elegant old place the name of which I have forgotten (like so many things of late!).
It was in Kensington, opposite the park with the Serpentine lake. Large, white in color if I recall, suffered some bomb damage during the blitz. Real classy dining room, spacious rooms, the best English breakfast I ever ate. Doorman named Tom.
Anyone?
