Just read the 2003 RAF Yearbook, where a figure of 93 graduates per year from Valley is quoted if thats of any use.

What is the throughput like to the OCU's these days? There are always random stories flying round so anyone got any pukka gen?

Im sure it will settle down soon enough. Just a bit demoralising when you get to stay put until further notice!

I remember stories from the bad old days of 424 year holds where people went and got degrees. Is that still allowed? If my hold's going to extend to cover an entire university year, I may as well get something out of it

Seeing they keep trying to give me all these learning credit things, they must want me to do something like that.... right?

S**T... 424 year holds. That is one hell of an extension past your 16/38 point!

I know there are a few 'experienced' guys around but I've not met any 400 year olds as yet

I think that it's terribly sad to hear people considering asking to go ME or rotary just do avoid a bit of holding. We're talking about 1 year out of a career of perhaps 15. If people want ME or Rotary, fine, but don't rush to make a decision that you might regret.

But then again, the kind of person that would even consider giving up hope of FJ at the first hurdle almost certainly couldn't crack it anyway!!

It would be lovely to tick a few off to get thru' quicker but the wonderful computer system that runs Valley doesn't allow it.

Anyway, surely if we all have to refresh u guys are going to have to stand by while we do anyway?!

Enjoy the queue mate, as already pointed out, it could be a lot lot worse. Wherever u are I bet you don't envy us on the beautiful Isle today, apparently the A55 and the bridges over the Straits have been shut due to the snow. Lurrvely!!

Well, when you're refreshing you might well steal my slots some day; but at least at that stage I'll have some for you to take!

Enjoy your weekend stranded there; I suppose in that sense I'm quite happy where I am

Flap62; in common with most of my peers, I'm quite happy waiting for the Hawk. I don't care if I could make it to another stream's front line tomorrow, while I'm still happily passing FJ stream trips it doesn't appeal

Does anyone know what the deal is with the next few courses due to start linton. ie when they're likely to be and how many studes. I'm currently one of the guys waiting for Linton and while I'm more than happy to be going there it would be nice to have an actual date to look foward to. Apparently the one I've got at the moment is being delayed further but nobody knows till when.

I`m still reeling over this 19 refresher after NFTC . . . . . . . . . .

What does the refresher entail ? I can`t see how you "refresh" on what is a different jet ?

Anyone been chopped on this type of refresher ?

Now refreshing back out in CL . . . .that`s different

The NFTC refresher at 19(F) may well be on a different jet, but it allows you ex canada monkeys to re-learn how to fly in UK airspace (remember contouring at low level? ). It also gives them a chance to fire weapons on a range instead of playing computer games!
Joking aside, the techniques are much the same and it doesn't take long to remember how to fly the steam driven hawk. All the boys are doing fine though, apart from all the "That's not how we did it in Canada........... " stories!

Fair enough. Considering the size of Frog Bronson was huge compared to a VATA it`s a fair call.

And to be able to drop munitions is what it`s all about too !!

Still would be miffed if after NFTC you got sent to Valley .

Antelope,

210's starting as planned, I believe, with something like 7 or 8 on it. Apparently, courses are going to drop to around 6, with one course during 2004 cancelled. They used to be every 6 weeks, so you'll know roughly how many people are ahead of you in thw queue from streaming and can probably figure it out.

If it's the old 211 that's cancelled, then the next course will probably be... umm... end of July? Now some grads have slipped 6 weeks that might add up.

Aim for an odd-numbered course

If it was 211 that was cancelled would the next course therefore be 212 and go back to 72 so they'd take 2 courses in a row (210 & 212) or would 207 end up taking even courses (212 etc) and 72 odd.

Cheers,

Ant

Well back in the days when there were no dual carriageways on Anglesey and there was just the one road bridge over the Menai Straits, Valley had high performance swept wing supersonic aircraft rather then the JP Mk 6. When you finished the Gnat course you held for a while, then did a 'refresher course' on the Hunter. Including the RAF's hottest ever Grunter, the wonderful GT6!

So from those who have been in this situation before, where is the smart bloke approaching a looong hold pre-Valley going?

Quite fancy doing a job, wouldn't mind getting airborne as much as possible, wouldn't like to stray too far south....?

Don't worry too much about the refresher at 19, it just takes a bit of readjusting; starting the jet with more than one switch is so uncivilised. One assumes that you've already been role disposed, so it's just a chance to get a few more hours '70s style. It's a bit unnerving having to actually navigate again though, watch out for the moon land to the SE of LFA 7- the IP's never seem to be there!
Is Steve Hill still the boss out there?

100 Sqn at Leeming is a good hold. There are always back seats up for grabs and it's an ideal chance to get some hands on with the Hawk. Leeming is a pleasant enough spot and right on the A1 for those w/e getaways...
