Windproof Smocks

Help please....As some thieving gypsy bar steward has nicked my jacket, and the supply world cannot issue me a replacement, despite going to Norway soon, can anyone recommend a decent and relatively cheap place to obtain a windproof smock? Ta.

Roger, out.

BAS has some pretty good weather proof gear. Try yachting suppliers and chandlers too.

BAS = British Antarctic Survey

Good luck!

Careful with your racial stereotyping, Roger - don't forget that half a million gypsies were killed in the holocaust...

Anyway, 'kosko bokht' (good luck) trying to find a good windproof smock!

There are quite often items such as this on ebay under militaria. I think there was one yesterday.

Not really - just a hint that his post might get censored for 'racial comment'?

Replace the word gypsy with the name of Guy Gibson's labrador and it certainly would be. "Some thieving ****** bar steward..." would certainly get the political correctos' attention!

Romanies were part of the local culture when I were a lad (horse drawn caravans etc) - but that was back when we didn't have mains electricity and steam trains still puffed along the local branch line! I accept that their image is somewhat different to many nowadays though.

Haven't found any windproofs yet but following the recommendation I took a look at the militaria section of e-bay. It's fascinating! Items on offer...

Set of 26 unused British Army boot studs

Luftwaffe navigation computer

Picture of "a flying boat"

Ordnace Survey map of Colchester

A 1943 edition of "Men Only"

Just spotted someone shifting large quantities of Squaddie95 for 99p a "set".

Wink

Rodger,

Going there myself soon, but not sure which one of my windproofs to take!

However, surely if you go to supply there will be dozens hanging up in the stackers teabar - along with cw jackets, gortex, watches with stopwatch, pro-boots, etc, etc

See you out there!

Thumbs down

Just doing a search on Yahoo yielded this site..... Field Textiles . They are contractors for the MoD that sell on surplus kit to the likes of Silvermans etc. Check out the prices.....

Pack of 5 (yes 5) SAS Windproof smocks - £75
Pack of 5 DPM Soldier 95 Fleeces - £50
5 Kevlar helmets (used) - £40
10 Desert DPM helmet covers - £10
etc etc etc

It's great that the MoD can flog all this kit off when half it's own people can't get the stuff issued.

Nice.

657... Good Lord old chum, get a grip - Wokka's thru' n thru'! Just to set the record straight, thieving individual of an a non-specific racial identity (Bearing in mind that all races are equal, although white hetero-sexual males may be disadvantaged in some circles, perhaps, maybe??) - Fuggit - a right bleedin' git nicked it. However, I thank those with suggestions, although, ithey are all still too pricey. Why are the excellent WPS's no longer available thru' stores? In my opinion, that was one bit of kit we got right (along with the old-stylee aircrew knife!).

Roger, out!

Try this small company from the midlands who manufacture them,

HW Slimms tel: 01455 843730.

They might be able to help I used them about 5 years ago and the kit was good quality.
