Somebody mentioned him earlier and I'd have to recommend checking out stuff by Rob Dougan (also known as Rob D).

There is an instrumental CD which came with a limited edition of his album and they seem to use it for about 90% of the videos they make for Top Gear, to great effect.

Particularly recommend 'Clubbed to Death', 'Clubbed to Death 2' and instrumental versions of 'Furious Angels' and 'I'm not Driving Anymore'. Would all work well for the atmospheric instrumental stuff.

Works for cars anyway and I'm certain it'd lend itself well to aircraft videos, especially that fast jet, low level footage that we all love.

What was the music used on the Valley video from their flying comp? Saw it once, thought it was good.

It's a little dark in places but the score from all three Matrix movies is quite good, and much of it fits well with flying scenes.

For ANY Battle of Britain Clips ....

'Aces High' - Iron Maiden

"There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we've got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.

Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks there's no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it's too late.

Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. Aces high.

Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again.

Bandits at 8 O'clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109's out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns

Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, Aces high."

... 'or Flight of Icarus' - again by Maiden (For Hang Glider Pilots perhaps???)

"As the sun breaks, above the ground,
An old man stands on the hill,
As the ground warms, to the first rays of light
A birdsong shatters the still.

His eyes are ablaze,
See the madman in his gaze.

Fly, on your way, like an eagle,
Fly as high as the sun,
On your way, like an eagle,
Fly and touch the sun.

Now the crowd breaks and a young boy appears
Looks the old man in the eye
As he spreads his wings and shouts at the crowd
In the name of God my father I fly.

His eyes seem so glazed
As he flies on the wings of a dream,
Now he knows his father betrayed
Now his wings turn to ashes to ashes his grave.

Fly, on your way, like an eagle,
Fly as high as the sun,

On your way, like an eagle,
Fly as high as the sun."

This might be a bit spurious, but in case you haven't found them already, there are some good videos here : http://www.f16techs.com/downloads.htm

The Harrier one is obviously the best...

If you are serious about doing a sqn vid then dont use the tunes that we all know have been used before ie. In the Air Tonight or Here I go Again. Be original...like Roam by the B52s.
