Phantom F4J crash back in 87
Phantom F4J ZE358 from 74Sqn crashed about a mile away from my house on the 26/08/87 killing both onboard. I never heard what the cause of the crash was. Has anyone got any information on the cause of this accident.

I was on scene some 8 mins post impact as part of the SAR response then stayed to do comms for the Brawdy Seaking whilst it was on the ground.
Spent a lot of hours there over the next few weeks.
There is a fitting stone cairn on site now some 200m from the initial IP where poppies are laid.
RIP guys!

I was on 74(F) Sqn at the time. It has always spooked me that it was only the Sqn programmers choice as to who was in the jet at the time.....there but for the grace etc etc. We took several aircraft over to Wales (4 or 6 can't recall) on 27 April 88. We landed at Brawdy and were flown to the site by the SAR boys. We attended the 'Cairn' service at the site. The cairn was built by a nearby local chap and the plaque was forged and presented by another local chap at no cost. After the service we waited for the SAR chopper to return, we saw it approaching in the distance at which point it turned around and went off and did a proper job! We were then invited into a local house for tea and cakes whilst we awaited the MT bus. Of course we were in the middle of nowhere, no Tom-Toms then, so it took the poor lad ages to find us. We drove back to Brawdy for an overnight stop. We flew over the cairn the next day, in formation. They were both excellent chaps...Sad times....Once a Tiger, always a Tiger.
