Sorry for giving you a wrong impression.

I am just discussing options here. It is not a matter of being more or less humble, captain or money oriented (in one or more senses ALL pilots have the two last orientations...)
It is just a matter of giving up a stable situation for some degree of uncertainity.
All the process of building up a career is serious and thoughtfull. At a certain point in life you have to balance very well the pros and cons.

I don't want to offend anyone, but I too have about 12000 hours and several thousand of them in the "Command" position.

However, that doesn't mean that I should be able to "Jump" ahead on a seniority list.

Furthermore, there are two of us in the front of the airplane because they just happen to be built for two. Heck, I recall the days of three on a regular basis and guess what? Yep, there were three of us. Not because there were any favors being handed out. We were all there because we were all REQUIRED!

So, what's my point? The fact is that I'm a little annoyed with all the "Command" and "Four strip" comments. Face it boys and girls, with few exceptions, those of us who wear four bars do so because someone gave us the priviledge. It is not a Right!

Four bars, three bars, two bars, and the fine folks in the back. We are all in this together, and frankly, I like to hear input from everyone so WE can do the right thing when necessary!

Think about it "Captain Sir!"

For me, I am very hopefull that I can trade in my four bars, for an opportunity to wear less at EK.

please don't waste your valuable command time and do not apply, your attitude will be spottet during the interview.

Many of us EK dudes gave up our widebody command and we have no problem with it.

Don't listen to the negative replies you are generating. Some people here are a bit touchy about the "C" word. Many because they have been given the opportunity to sit in the LHS of a big jet at a very young age and are sensitive about older more experienced guys saying that they are not deserving (or more correctly that the older more experienced are more deserving), which is entirely incorrect. If you have a command here, you probably deserve it, and if you trade in your old command to come here, then you must sit in line and wait your turn. What you are doing is exactlly the right thing. Find out the facts before coming. Not that everything here is always fact. But the fact remains that coming to the desert is a big lifestyle changes and dare I say it, has some enormous risks associated with it. So continue to ask the questions that some guys find offensive, because only you can decide whether it is right for you.

I am still with the impression that this discussion forum is all about sharing experiences, discussing situations, assessing diferent points of view.
But, wow! Suddenly it becames a psycossocial laboratory, were complexes, vanity, frustrations are easily driven and spilled out.

Please, re-read posts and try to undestand them before take emotional and useless reactions, on behalf of the quality of the valuable tool we have here!

A couple of quick questions for those of you in a better position to judge than me: I have about 2,500 hrs, nearly 1,000 hrs jet time - in short I am close to EK's minimum requirements. Am I even slightly competitive with these numbers? Has anyone been hired with so few hours? To those of you hired recently, what were your flight times?

I am 43 years old and was a Hong Kong Police officer for 18 years so my flying experience is not comensurate with my age.

Also, what is the retirement age at EK?

I know a chap who has just been offered a position with EK and he has accepted. I think that goes to show that there is no recruitment suspension of any sort currently in force. He has put in a heap of work for the selection process and he deserves to do well but he had to wait nearly a year after filling in the on line application before getting the nod to come to DXB for the sim and interview. I guess he must have circa 6000 hours and most of that on medium and heavy jets before anyone asks. It seems that people who have the hours (6000+) are being told if will be three years to command!

I just received a negative reply from EK. I applied online about a month ago. I have 3850 TT most of it on the BAe146, with 2650 jet, (including 750 jet PIC). Anyone knows what are competitive minimas?

Sorry to hear about your bad news :(

It seems that circa 5000 hours and upwards is a reasonable 'ball park' figure for you to get called to DXB for the selection process. Widebody time can only be regarded as a distinct advantage. Take some encouragement from the fact that EK will still be expanding in the future and you will have the opportunity to try again if you ever wanted to. ;)

Hi folks,

A couple of month ago got an email from EK saying that I was put into a " alternate pool" ! Is that good or bad ?

Dense...I mean G3. (just busting your chops). Try Emirates Group. I had a hard time too, but fund it after a while. Good luck.

I applied to EK about 5 weeks ago and havn't heard anything at all, am I right in thinking that they will get back to you with a Yes or No, or does a No mean that they won't notify you at all ? I did get an automated reply the same day I applied online saying that they had received my application.

I have tried the "Emirates Group" but the only pilot position offered was for training pilots. I have been a Training Captain and sim Instr. but on aircraft types not flown by Emirates, so I thought it wouldn't be approporiate to apply. I was looking for just a line pilot application and still have not found it. Do you or anyone else for that matter have an address for just a line pilot application for Emirates.
