Pressing 2 . . .

the only action I have ever seen elsewhere be effectively 'bullet proof' was a pre arranged sick day.
I'm all for it GNL. Pick a day and let us know. Let's see how many people have the guts to do it. :ok:

Rob

Absolutely agree with FLEX here, Khartoum, Addis, Harare, Sana'a, Peshawar, Kabul, Baghdad, and this month I think maybe 2 layover destinations?

A 330 command is, I would argue (well I would wouldn't I) the most consistently stressful, threat-ffilled, least appreciated command in the company!

You're right, swanning into Heathrow doesn't deserve half of what a 330 command deserves but best not to shout it too loud eh?! What's the allowance in New York these days?

Still immensely glad to be on the 330 fleet though, despite it being ignored like a Filipino nanny in Ras Al Khor, brilliant bunch of people!

airbusgirl66 18th June 2014 04:59

Completely agree with FLEX…and fong

gardenshed 18th June 2014 06:21

Guys & Girls,
Please lets not get side tracked into A vs B etc.
We need to keep in sight that yet again our salary is falling behind the cost of living again here in Dubai.
Keep posting here and on other internet boards in our own countries about the situation so that less and less people see EK as a step up, and stop applying.

singleseater 18th June 2014 06:43

Let's not forget a number of things as this goes forward.
The history of rumors around this place would indicate at least an element of truth to the one about 1000 hrs/no flt pay etc. There can be little doubt they want more productivity, a number of the guys have been told first hand that we are going to this number of hours.
So, there are a number of possibilities:
1. The company has come out with this as a standard offer while they continue to massage a plan for us.
2. The GCAA has refused their proposal and told them to go back to the drawing board.
3. The department has said NO, wanting to be in compliance for the transition to European rules next year.
I am hopeful for the later but suspect #2, either way, we have not heard the end of this.

thehonourablefong 18th June 2014 07:04

SS

I do't know, the rumours about the 350 turned out t be wrong, in fact they pretty much couldn't have been further from the truth!

Everybody was wrong about the profit share and barely anyone got anywhere close to the pay review, save maybe for a few who bet on the 3% step and f-all else!

Not to mention the rumours about Miami or wherever it was, the only stuff that you can trust in any way, shape or form is, ironically, signed off with 'Lots of Love, Alan'...

News article

From yesterday's Daily Infidel, the Gulf's leading ex-pat publication.

Emirates Airline faces closure

It emerged today that Emirates Airline is facing closure after a mass exodus of pilots over a pay cut. It appears that the management of the airline misjudged the strength of pilot feeling on the issue and are in crisis talks to keep the airline afloat. Our reporter, Mustafa Leek, was able to interview several pilots who insisted on anonymity.

When asked to describe the anger felt by the world's best aviators, one of their number volunteered the following. "We are asked to do more and more and this year my pay only increased by 3%. Last month, for example, I had to do 3 landings and only had 18 days at home in my company villa - my maid barely recognised me! The rest of the time I was expected stay in a 5 star hotel with barely enough cash provided to entertain myself. And what do we get for our efforts - 3 measly weeks extra pay."

Another pilot had this to say. "The company has got this wrong in a big way. They cannot find the pilots to replace us. Only 30% of guys who make it to the interview get offered a job so we must be special. On my selection I had to answer 700 psychometric questions just to ensure I would be compliant enough and prepared tolerate all the bullish!t coming my way. They even tested my ability to fly several radar vectored ILS's a month."

On the subject of leaving the airline, one told us, "As the best pilots in the world, we have plenty of options. Some of us even have passports. One of my mates will go to China when the pay gets to $100k a month and he's not kidding."

When asked to respond to the charge that Emirates pilots had slightly inflated expectations and were a bit up themselves, one said, "I brought my family over half way round the world to follow my dream of a big car and an easy life, why should I be treated like this?". Our reporter pointed out that if he had gone in the other direction it would have been less than half way around the world.

A company spokesman admitted that the company was facing ruin. "It's true, we have a made a massive mistake and are struggling to cope with all this anonymous whining on the internet. Resignations have already reached double figures - these guys mean business. We just can't get hold of any more stateless persons from southern Africa and very few major airlines have gone bankrupt in S America recently. There are only so many Europeans who value a maid and sunshine over living at home in the civilised world. Fortunately, Australia is still a source of the world's most expert yet unassuming aviators. Even so, we will struggle to find enough candidates for our 'Emirates pilot re-education programme'."

cerbus 18th June 2014 09:02

All the talk about hoping that no new joiners come is great but we are pissing up a rope. If you look at the seniority list of the last few months it is primary made up of 3rd worlders which is scary in itself and just what the company wants. They, like the Ryanair pilots will love it and not bitch at all. Again just what the company wants. Forget about any pay raise or increase in the T&Cs.

thefoxandfirkin 18th June 2014 09:47

Adolf,

Thank you for making me laugh so much. That post was brilliant best laugh I've had all month.

Cheers mate:D

For fox sake you've earned yourself a firkin beer.:ok:

delighted to have left

Made the move home a couple of years ago, I've got to say I don't look back lol.

I hope they don't pump you too hard folks. Still have nightmares of night time Indian turnarounds.

1000hrs out there will hurt :(

Good luck.

donpizmeov 18th June 2014 10:54

Contract adjustment letters are still not updated.

The don.

richard III 18th June 2014 11:26

Dear CERBUS:
Would you care to elaborate on what makes you a First World pilot? It is certainly not your education and manners.....

Craggenmore 18th June 2014 11:49

Richard III

cerbus also posts as Alconguin Crusader.

cerbus on 17th May 2013

If WKs plane is so super why does he get paid the same as the rest of us? Can't be as super as he thinks and he probably is not as super as he thinks he is either. Typical Big Watch, Small C0ck syndrome.
What else can he pontificate to us about? We are waiting White Knight.
cerbus on the 10th May 2013

I wonder what the soft c0cks like Craggenmore and Wiz think of the screw job we just received from the company. Their silence thinks even they don't mind what just happened.
Alconguin Crusader on 16th June 2014

This is a complete joke and a slap in the face of every decent hard working emirates pilot. I am curious what the limp d1ck$ on this site say though.
Wiz, White Knight and Craggenmore what say you.
Same targets, same lifeless syntax and same vapid prose.

hotduke 18th June 2014 12:21

about 4%

Food and fuel are pretty flat for the year. Plane tickets and medical co-pays have increased significantly. The gardener has been ripping me off the whole time so that price hasn't changed. VOIP has made phone calls cheaper. My Etisalat provided internet is way faster than it was last year. The utility and redundancy of personal technology (tabs, pads, phones) have increased netting a lower cost for these gadgets. Although my expectation for the increase was slightly higher, I think the review is priced for suitable retention from the company's standpoint.

helen-damnation 18th June 2014 13:12

Richard III,

He may not put it very eloquently but he has a point: namely that the company will happily recruit people from places where the current EK conditions are a step up and are thus less likely to complain.

ps I don't know about his education and he may be a second world pilot :hmm:

helen-damnation 18th June 2014 13:15

Why does a A380 CA make the same as a A330 CA?
erm, because he/she has already been an A330 Captain?

kingpost 18th June 2014 13:30

eerrrrrr, not necessary - there has been right to left seat movement!!

GoreTex 18th June 2014 15:15

they increased the CAT A ticks because of the inflation but not the salaries, they make me laugh

glofish 18th June 2014 15:18

Not sure if a particular provenience is the reason, but most certainly the quality of applicants has eroded.

Does anyone know of any other operator of a very benign aircraft like the T7 has problems with tail strikes? (maybe AF?:})

Is it recruitment, or training, or the trainers, or simply the pilots, meaning us?
I see even good operators that start caring bullocks about flight preparation etc.

My most preferred topic is the ASR summary. If it does not make you laugh, it makes you think, i hope.

Anything to do with the pay and T&C reviews the last few years??
Hello, anyone home, Timmy?

CaptainChipotle 18th June 2014 16:19

A quick glance at the seniority list yesterday and EK's has a lot in the training mill.

Over 100 since the beginning of April, so the applicants must be out there, whether of not they are "quality" has yet to be determined.

I've heard so many rumors about attrition, and I've flown with so many pilots that are fed up with the eroding T&C's, but it must be all talk.

Lots of rumors out there but EK will only pay as much as they have to and not a dirham more, they must know something we don't because it seemed the general consensus was that we were in for a massive pay increase.

3.5% last year, 3% this year. We all know thats not on par with the cost of living where we live, the only way I'm happy is if our hours get lowered to 75-80 instead of 90+ and we all know its not going to happen.
