Hehehehe... Tech quiz... (shakes head and shivers at the thought)

Well... of the 6 guys at my interview not one studied for it and not one walked out with anything more positive to say than 'thank f that is over'.

The tech quiz certainly reminds you that there is a whole bunch of information out there that is COMPLETELY IRRELIVANT to day-to-day airline operations.

On the third day they told us that if we hadda stuffed up the tech quiz and ended up below 'the Emirates' mark, we would have had the chance to sit another one again.

My feeling is that the tech quiz is there to sort out the airline pilots from the rest. If you are an airline pilot you will know enough to get through, and the sim ride will prove this. If you're worried about the tech quiz then spend the US$30 and buy the book... But don't think they won't see through that facade. ;)

Otherwise... See SOPS' post about 2 up. About the best information you'll be able to get from this thread.

Ek interview

Re the interview process ,i am just repeating what guys like "Visual" etc have said.
The knowledge that you have from your ATP days however distant and faded still applies to aviation today unless the Wright brothers version 2 have reinvented flying while i was asleep (which is most of the time). Also if you meet the requirements to apply you will have picked up a lot of new and relevant knowledge in your day to day ops which can be of value.
The tech quiz was no big deal and i am certainly no Einstein,I have to work harder than most to keep stuff in my head.
The sim ride was fair. For eg ,I am on the Bus and have never flown Boeing and i did my sim ride on the 777.I was given a full brief by the instructors to ask for "what i wanted in Airbus terminology" and they would translate that into Boeing talk and give me ie Flap 1 as opposed to Flap 15 so dont worry.
It was a bit strange having a stick between the legs (unlike some of our girls ha ha) but it soon felt normal ,even on the engine out procedure.ALL VERY FAIR.I am not Chuck Yeager and i passed and have been here just over 2 years..
On the group exercises ,get involved but dont try and dominate everyone, but also dont keep quiet.Find a balance !!!
Relax and enjoy.I passed so how hard can it be.:ok:

Emirates Interview

Will be interviewing soon and would like any information on the technical quiz. Please respond here or e-mail me. Thanks

Ghostflyer 14th July 2006 05:06

I'd read 'Defensive Air Tactics in an Airliner' by H.E.Z Bollah. That should give you a few more pointers over and above the bezillion EK technical threads.

No worries matey

Do not worry too much on the Tech Quiz.

As long as you have any of these requirements,consider yourself already in;

1)From "The Land of Down Under"
2)White
3)Type rated on PC Orion
4)Crop spraying Ace Pilot.
5)A few hundred hours on any flying machine with 2 big hair dryers attached to it.

Cheers.

White Knight 14th July 2006 09:08

Cat3b - some sort of issue you want to bring up here:confused:

CAT IIIB 14th July 2006 12:51

It's just a joke.

Yeah...I know,I know the Yanks can fly.Afterall their forefathers invented the great flying machine.

Hey,I'm just kidding.No hard feelings.

Cheers.

Emirates tech exam

I have just arrived back from the program and its all straight forward stuff really, just an ATP refresher and it was 9 years ago since I did my exams. Used the Ace the tech exam book all good reference. But don't get too strung up on it just relax and enjoy yourself. They are more interested in seeing you as a person and finding out about you and your life than all the other stuff. The sim is a fantacstic operunity to shine. get a good rapor going with the people you are with as you are all in the same boat. enjoy it and don't stress. Oh and don't be late for anything this is not a good thing too do.Cheers

If you read the many posts about EK lately you will find a lot of negativity related to the following:

1. No union protection - EK can change the rules on a whim - think about that

2. Dubai is becoming very, very expensive and your benefits from EK will not be sufficient over time

3. Morale is in the tank for many pilots and pilot attrition has risen lately

Be sure to consider all of your options before taking a job with EK and enter with your eyes WIDE OPEN. I would not leave a good US job for one at EK.

Good luck

Sorry!!! But Alberto Santos Dumont, a Brazilian, did invent the airplane (14 Bis, october 6th, 1906)!:ok:

"Only after all of us had flown, the Americans made their appearance." -- Alberto Santos-Dumont

"We deduce that Mr Santos Dumont has first to make a run over a long level field. With the aid of the starting-off pillar that we use, Orville and I go right up into the air in a much more practical fashion." -- Wilbur Wright
The consensus remains that Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first sustained and controlled powered flight in the world. And the controversy goes on... I don't hink this is part of the EK interview:eek: or is it?

airamerica 26th July 2006 21:42

Another usesless bunch!Someone makes an enquiry and guess what, the topic changes direction.
Come on guys, the French Invented anything that you can think off.Give the poor old patriot some credit in this usesless conversation.
Did anyone know that Airbus was French invented/made/sealed and delivered?
Serously!

garry_paul18 26th July 2006 22:09

Just left EK a couple of months ago. Quite a bit of fresh air. Joined a 5 star airline next door and flying over here is pretty much the same. I think its much better here with the new ops management than what it used to be but there is still the AAB factor! Got a nice mix of nationalities and 95% of them are pretty nice to fly with. No more silent flightdecks now!! :ok:

driftedcheesehehe 13th August 2006 22:51

hey man,

There is a book out called
"preparing for you emirates interview"
by some people on the inside, called
"captians x, y & z".

Transair online pilot shop have them.
Costs about £25 but may be well worth it.
Says it covers Qoute:

"all aspects of the selection process, including the interviews, medical, psychological, technical quiz, and simula-tor screening. Interview questions used at Emirates interviews are listed as well as background on the technical questions they ask. It includes outlines of important personal, financial and fleet details."

ShockWave 15th August 2006 13:56

Gees guys, it's not difficult. It is the kind of process where the more you worry about it the more likely you are to stuff it up. Lots of CRM type team building exercises, technical exam which was a laugh, Phsyc exam and a sim ride. If you have half a brain, are not mentally missaligned and can fly you will be fine.

ratpoison 15th August 2006 17:20

Yes, and if you have half a brain and mentally not misaligned, you will stay the F**** away from the place. Unfortunately you have probably made up your mind no matter what, but think real bloody hard my brother...........
