BladePilot 31st January 2009 14:24

Has anything official been published by GCAA or is there any statement from RAK Airways?

ShinjukuHustler 31st January 2009 19:42

Hmm

Closing down eh? So I suppose that vacancy on a well known aviation job site looking for a COO for a 'young airline based in UAE' is not for this outfit?

Jeese, this Doc Potty is like the piano player on the Titanic, just keeps on playing as the ship is going down..

Play us a tune doc, ah go on, go on go on go on go on....

RAK Airways Threads Merged

I just been told that RAK Airways a 1 airplane airline which was shut down by the GCAA due many post holder and other essential positions missing is trying to re start and is trying to trick the GCAA into thinking they have filled these empty positions.Sounds as if the GCAA have found out.

Gulfstreamaviator 19th February 2009 05:34

GCAA

Whilst all mostly very nice people, and highly professional, are actually no better or worse than everywhere else.

Perhaps worse, as the senior staff are all either family members, or close to the owners of the AOC holders.

Nepotism is a ME trait, and is the reason why RAK and DANA received their AOCS.

Both of these Northern Emirate companies are ruled by the came shareholders.

Then there is the almost Northern Emirate with its G200, (Israeli) single Corporate jet, not even on an AOC, but flying charter.

I suspect that the press releases are slightly inaccurate: the chatres will be for Gain Jet, whose AOC the aircraft must be on, and secondly as already menmtioned, the Gulfstream 200, is a 100% American Aircraft. Honest my life.

RAK airways will fly again, and even with 1 aircraft ( I beleived the mandate for an AOC was more than 1 aircaft), and 1 post holder.
They have the connections.

Take care up there.

Let the dogs barks. If these rumors were to be accurate what is the point to discuss about it? These requirements have a reason to be and if some well connected people manages to go around, they will anyway sooner or later face the reason why these requirements are there. At that time, the GCAA will have to face its responsibilities but I barely see how and why they would grant favors when it comes to aviation safety. They chose to put high standards which is a very good thing as the market lacks of experience and it would be very risky to get compromised. Don't forget that other civil aviation autorities are granted exceptional permissions under some circumstances. Do you know all what is behind what you are talking about or do you just need to be heard?

Panama Jack 19th February 2009 08:18

Would be interesting what the FAA's IASA makes of some of these relationships.

It's not IASA but EASA. What you call relationships might be only exemptions granted according to certain conditions, just like the FAA or EASA can grant. Unless you know exactly if the company benefits of an individual favor all what you say is pure emptyness. Who would be fool enough (and have the autorithy) to compromise himself by committing the whole GCAA administration? The individual responsability of an individual doing a favor would be huge when you consider the safety issues which may arise. Having an official exemption doesn't mean you have a favor from Sheik Mo.

Gulf Bus 19th February 2009 11:04

Yes I am sure the GCAA are not stupid. The fact is that the real 3 National Carriers of the Emirates are very concerned to keep a good reputation and do not want it to be affected if some other company is allowed to fly without the correct standards, the Emirates cannot afford to compromise on aviation safety or standards the big three have to much at stake. The current boss at RAK has a reputation for cutting corners and aviation safety (He was involved in a company that crashed a 727 with all killed some years back) and until he is gone RAK will always face big problems from the regulators. Good luck to those there who have the right intentions. I understand the flight ops guys were good but several of the good guys have gone along with the Flight Ops boss who was well liked by the GCAA. They stopped operations in December.

Gulfstreamaviator 18th March 2009 03:39

Well did the GCAA fall for it

RAK was due to have their AOC re issued today.

Or perhaps the GCAA have realised that it is all smoke and mirrors.

The new CEO, is a nice fit beside the Chief Executive, or chairman of the board, or whatever he calls himself. Captain Potty. Hawker Captain, and all round good guy.

So whats the latest from sleepy old RAK.?

el sol 19th March 2009 08:04

What can we really expect from a Company that has 7 or 8 CEO's in less than 20 months ?

ShinjukuHustler 19th March 2009 15:05

RAK Attack..

What can you expect ? how about 10 CEO's in 30months :ugh:

Getting that company going has been like a bad dose of constipation, a lot of pushing and shoving but not a lot to show for it in the end.
Not even the great toilet mogul, Doc Potty, can coax a movement out of this one !

Hustle on:ok:

Quote Panama Jack:

Quote S.F.L.Y:

No, I really did mean IASA:

International Aviation Safety Assessments (IASA) Program

The FAA’s IASA program focuses on a country's ability, not the individual air carrier, to adhere to international standards and recommended practices for aircraft operations and maintenance established by the United Nation's technical agency for aviation, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). These audits are limited to civil aviation authorities of countries with existing air carrier service to the U.S., or authorities of foreign air carriers wanting to start services to the U.S.
The UAE is subject to these audits as there are a couple of UAE flag carriers operating to the United States.

In the past the FAA has hung a few countries up to dry over concerns that their CAA's are unable to provide sufficient oversight. The UAE appears to have an interesting situation where often the same people running the airlines are also the Regulator. This would be considered a "conflict of interest" in other parts of the world.
