Fair enough...!

The way things are going.. visiting the UAE .. or anywhere else in the world will be off the agenda for sometime. ( In Australia .. without using the words .. we have just been locked down for at least 6 months. International travel is banned. Inbound people are being quarantined under Army guard for at least 2 weeks. I think International air travel is doomed for a while.

Please. I don't think you'll find a person who isn't sympathetic to this. I was making two different points: (1) this isn't the right forum to peddle a wokester agenda, particularly if (2) its badly articulated and based on a overly simplistic and one-eyed view.

Makes no sense, mate. Never mind.

So far my top destination in Dubai is:
my sofa kitchen computer PlayStation bed stay safe out there! |
Let me be clear. There are no good places to visit in Dubai, bar the departure lounge at DXB, as already written in scrotometer's contribution. The place and the whole of the UAE is a nasty little ****hole. And it is densely populated by people who are able to turn a blind eye to the abuse of workers whilst themselves coining it and living a comfortable life. One of my sons included. As for being woke, I doubt that I would have survived my time in the forces with such attitudes.
WTF is coonspeak, btw.? Now that does sound offensive. |
I doubt that EK pilots forming a picket line outside the Ministry of Labour will change very much.
The country is not densely populated by people who are coining it. One estimation I read two years ago was that as little as 10% of the ex-pat population in the country (give or take 800,000) earn more than 5K AED per month. |
Those expat labourers are getting some well earned downtime, Cosy in dormitories working on their herd immunity whilst giving the top ten must sees in Dubai a miss. They'll be fresh as daisies and gagging for the sunshine before long after all the cribbage and canasta. The downtime may very well be extended though as the projects run into trouble without a bung from the south. Anyway there'll always be another hell hole for them to play their trade. Pilots and picket lines Emma, imagine that : )

The virus hasn't affected construction! Afterall, the endless queues of people waiting to move into new homes can't be ignored! :E :E

Best spot to visit is the departure lounge at the airport with a cancelled visa and one way ticket back to reality :D

Hahahah! also the vat return booth for all u lucky lucky tourists who paid 30% more than On Sales price in the UK. Let’s not forget IMF recommendations of 10% VAT and the neighbors across the desert increasing it to 15%!! Let’s see what UAE will opt for? 12.5% to keep big bro happy or 17.5% to top big bro?

Returning to the question posed by the OP, I've always enjoyed a few days stay in the Hatta Fort Hotel - a bit dated, yes, but I've always considered that one of its charms. The temperature is usually much cooler in Hatta, and the place is pretty laid-back.

Hatta is actually really nice. Mainly because it's nothing like being in Dubai.
