PPRUNE blocked in the UAE

Dear posters ,

For a few weeks now , I am unable to access PPRUNE from my home in the UAE.
The access to the website is blocked by the UAE.
The only way for me to get access to it is to be on a layover outside of the UAE.
Am I the only one to face that problem ?

One of them is just visiting Germany.

Seems to be unblocked on Etisalat today 14th October. Maybe they gave up this failed plan and quietly "tore down the wall". I guess the coming days will see.

Still blocked for me in the UAE.

Managed to find a work around with a simple browser add on for Firefox.

It took a few days for everyone to get blocked. Maybe it will take some time before all services and providers have unblocked it? still working good on the 15th.

Hopefully we see some more discussions from now. It's been a bit quiet since the blockade.

Still seems blocked to me on elife or 4G

I was previously blocked ... Now its working again. Using DU.
Maybe they have reversed the decision?

This made me chuckle. Which blockade, the one of prune or the one on not allowing Qatar registered aircraft overfly their airspace.

You might need to get out a bit more black pud. Oh wait. You can't. :}

Free to travel wherever I want, whenever I want, and when I say want, Dubai and the other blockading places is not a places I want to visit.

Yet you still have some problem with the so called blockade . I am not sure many others really care about it .

The problem we have is we are wasting money and time flying around your airspace that should be open for all to use.

Still restricted. What are they hoping to accomplish by blocking my access?
I'll just read and post on layovers like I'm doing now and warn anyone and everyone not to come to Dubai. This is the treatment a new joiner can expect.

Or you can use a VPN, or Tor browser, or several other available ways to work around it. Tor is probably the easiest for non-tech inclined types.15 minutes of googling should have you on your way.

At the very most, it has proved to be nothing more than a minor inconvenience for those who can only access this website whilst out of the country but for many with the means to access this website in the UAE, nothing has really changed.

Discussion about EK continues unabated despite the draconian attempts by management to silence us, which have proved to be so ineffectual, it has resulted in those behind this initiative, now looking rather witless.

More worryingly, it’s also blocked outside of the UAE with third party network providers in Europe when subscribed to and using a du roaming package.

Its been like that for some time - all Du mobiles, when roaming overseas, route all their traffic back through the great firewall of the UAE and you are subject to UAE firewall rules even when overseas. I found I was unable to use the Qatar Airways website in Qatar when on an UAE mobile and got the UAE firewall blockage message and this resulted in my employer raising the subject direct with Du.

The Du response was a kind of s shrug and a statement that they follow TRA guidance.

I never established whether the routing of all traffic back via the home operator is normal carrier behaviour though. They certainly need to route the data usage back to Du but I'd contend there is no reason to route the actual traffic - but they certainly do.

Can you imagine any of this nonsense happening in the western world or any other major airline?
We live in a part of the world where expressing criticism and exercising freedom of speech is rather taboo, unlike the civilised western world. ;)

If pprune being blocked effects one decision to come to the ME or not, than I would strongly recommend not coming ! That is such a minor thing in the big scheme of things.
