Having a beer with a “freight-only” ex EK colleague a few weeks back, he informed me he was relatively happy, imagine my surprise when not to long ago he sent me an expletive laden msg informing me that his contract has been amended, meaning he will now operate pax flights at the discretion of his caring and humble employer.
15% saved on crewing cost, G wagons all round habibi. |

Sad day really. Wonder how many of the 80 odd will resign and how many in the holding pool will still want to change over to the “new” contract? My colleague today showed me a message from two of his freighter mates that say this is the final straw and are bailing ... You just cannot make this stuff up. |
I thought the freighter contract always had this provision? It's one reason I so wholeheartedly rejected it. But, they still get the string of days off, right? So aside from the principal of the thing, does it really make any difference? You operate flights on your working days, and get the string of days off, as the most important element.

I guess time will tell as the rosters start rolling out over the next few months. |
'This will be our summer of discontent', words spoken almost silently and behind double-closed doors at the EK HQ. What will they do about it? More of the same, I gather, turning a poor situation into a bad one, and a bad situation into a catastrophic operational meltdown. Can a habibi change its spots?
|
Absolutely shocked about their stupity. A tad short of pilots and look what they do. 15% discount...i like the title of this threat. |
How do I become a Habibi :} I want to sign up |
I thought last summer was the summer of discontent? Or perhaps that was the summer before. I think three summers ago was the summer "that the wheels finally fall off". I wonder what will be the motto for the summer of 2019? |

Let's also not forget that on the freighter fleet 3 of each of the block of days off you get each month were taken from your original leave allowance. The leave on the freighter fleet now 12 days not 42 as per the passenger fleet.
If this is true then now you really do have a 'B' scale pilot. There is no hard limit on the hours you can fly, you are in reality getting the same amount of days off per year as the passenger fleet, (just shuffled into blocks), flying the same freight/passenger fleets but for 15% less salary and less housing etc. Hey presto a B scale. |
I still cant understand how can they amend a contract?!!
Every thing is possible in this part of the world, depends who you are, who you know and how big is your bank account! |
