Joining Emirates
Good Day,
I am a 37 year old Chief Pilot of a Bombardier Challenger 601 in Portland, Oregon, USA. I have approximately 7000 hours total time, of which 5000 hours is jet, and 4000 of that is PIC. After recently visiting Dubai on a flight, I fell in love with the city. After two days of staying in the area, I knew that I want to move there. At this point, it is my career goal to get a job with Emirates. I just love int'l flying, and there was something about Dubai that really tickled my fancy. With only corporate flying experience, what is a good next step career wise to get on with Emirates? Will they look to hire me with only corporate experience, or should I join a regional airline in the USA for a few years to build airline experience, while simultaneously having my application into, and updating it, with Emirates? Please, any wisdom and suggestions to get on with Emirates would be very welcomed. Does Emirates have a hearing test criteria to be met? One of my ears is 100% good, the other has about 50% hearing loss (thank you aviation). Will this be sufficient for Emirates? Thank you, and looking forward to hopefully flying with many of you soon!! |
OurKing
Concerning your hearing problem i would be careful. I have a similar one and the constant being sent to a specialist every year is wearing out. In this region they (EK and the GCAA) work with very generic medical tables and if you do not fit in, they send your to a GCAA approved specialist in a blink of a second. Now the quality of those specialists, to remain politically correct, is very widely spread on the Richter scale ..... Plus any pre-existing condition is duly noted around here and any future treatment difficult to obtain. I would not recommend a move to this region with even a small dent in your medical record. On another note, i suspect you might also have a eye/reading problem. Considering the other EK threads on this site, i can't fathom any sane colleague applying to EK no more. :ugh: |
I'm not going to say anything about EK, enough information here for you to make up your mind!
As for the medical, they are funny about preexisting issues so might be a problem. Why not try Execujet, they have a base here, you might slip in quite nicely |
Being 37, i.e. 2 years above 35 you are good to go. You will be very welcome here as that is an important criteria. In fact no PIC over the age of 35 has ever bent a jet at EK!
(Question. Are you just a regular troll or are ur veins full if costa caffeine?) |
Ourking:
you are really funny, go back to costa nothing to see/hear here. |
Gentlemen (especially new joiners), until further notification, kindly avoid asking anything about EK
|
Our King,
I am a 50 year old Captain of a Airbus A388 in Dubai, Dubai, UAE. I have approximately 22,000 hours total time, of which 15000 hours is jet, and 12,000 of that is PIC. After recently visiting Portland on a flight, I fell in love with the city. After two days of staying in the area, I knew that I want to move there. At this point, it is my career goal to get a job with anyone else. I just love fun flying, and there was something about the USA that really tickled my fancy. With only commercial airline flying experience, what is a good next step career wise to get on with your company? Will they look to hire me with only commercial airline experience, or should I join a executive operator in the USA for a few years to build experience, while simultaneously having my application into, and updating it, with your company? Please, any wisdom and suggestions to get on with your company would be very welcomed. Does your company have a hearing test criteria to be met? One of my ears is 100% good, the other has about 50% hearing loss (from years of listening to endless BS). Will this be sufficient? I propose you and I simply switch jobs. The 601 and the A380 are almost identical...they go up, they come down and if you're lucky they do so without leaving a trail of debris on the runway. I bet you wear a white shirt and black trousers...hey guess what?...so do I ! Same Same! PS...I'll need your passport as well. |
Outlaw. 'kin hilarious😂😂

OurKing, you got to live Atleast a year in the concrete jungle to feel what it is. And what world are you going to see in a 22hr layover ? Stay where you are.
I'm 35, flying the 777s in the desert and would love to have your place for half the wages. Enough said. |
OurKing, you may be overqualified.
Goal is to have a cadet program of rookies on Cirrus-SR22 to Phenom-100 to A380. Per unidentified sources, they allegedly asked Embraer and Airbus to have cockpit similarity between A380 and Phenom-100. |
OurKing, you got to live Atleast a year in the concrete jungle to feel what it is. And what world are you going to see in a 22hr layover ? Stay where you are. Upon hiring, how long before I'll be able to hold a line flying Dubai to US flights? For example, flight 229 & 230. I've watched the recruitment videos for Emirates, and it seems like the possibilities at the airline are limitless. Do most who retire from Emirates stay in UAE, or move back to where they're from? Is there a visa issue with staying after retirement? |
Best post ever!
@Ourking you are a definitely a troll...you are lucky Spanish inquisition is over...they used to burn the heretic! |
Excellent
Outlaw one of the most amusing & creative responses in a long long time ! Have you considered a future career in scriptwting ? You have opened the door for similar imaginative responses , love it !

Outlaw
You must have put that together in the cruise! You should get another job. Our King - about the ears, sorry say again... |
OurKing send me a PM I can't PM you for some reason will give you some info.
|
Troll.com LOL! Great thread!
|
Our king.
It sounds you are an EK management individual trying to provoke a discussion here. In case you are not, you must be suffering from a serious lack of common sense. |
OurKing send me a PM I can't PM you for some reason will give you some info. |
I was a 50 year old 380 skipper and left EK because its runned buy some crazy people who have no idea what they are doing
|
Trolllll alert
EK is desperately looking for new pilots on multimedia.
LinkedIn, Facebook and now here on Pprune as well! Who, with half a braincell, would ask for such info, without having read the threads about EK... Guys being demoted without a reason, no inflation correction since forever, bidding system not existing anymore, never have vacation at the same time as the rest of the family, etc etc. Castle-dwellers need to come up with something better than this... N.:ok: |
Guys being demoted without a reason, no inflation correction since forever, bidding system not existing anymore, never have vacation at the same time as the rest of the family, etc etc. I will continue to monitor this thread and read more posts. But perhaps in the meantime, folks who are currently living in Dubai and flying for Emirates can speak openly in here, rather than cryptically. |
OP has to be a Costa dweller...
The new Aniston ad is like a recruitment ad! 😂😂 Btw, can't wait for all the ankle-biters to try sneaking into First class now...particularly on those US flights where no-one's supposed to go between cabins.

This is the first that I've definitively heard the information above. I have been reading the threads here before registering, but because this forum is written with such cryptic wording, it's difficult for an outsider to truly know what is being said. For example, I assumed that the GCAA passed a reg that made it unlawful for an under-35 year old to fly as PIC. Bidding system being non-existent, I did not know. I assumed that people not getting what they bid was a case of too many flights with not enough pilots wanting to fly to each destination, so being assigned other than what they bid. Never a vacation at the same time as the family is a shock to me, especially because Emirates seems to control the schooling of the kids.

Speak openly and get fired.
|
Quite frankly OurKing, join, or don't join. Nobody cares. To ask what this gig is all about shows how little initiative you've shown doing prior research. Or am I being cryptic...?

Just in case some aren't familiar with the term: (source Wikipedia)
Astroturfing is the practice of masking the sponsors of a message or organization (e.g., political, advertising, religious or public relations) to make it appear as though it originates from and is supported by a grassroots participant(s). It is a practice intended to give the statements or organizations credibility by withholding information about the source's financial connection. The term astroturfing is derived from AstroTurf, a brand of synthetic carpeting designed to resemble natural grass, as a play on the word "grassroots." The implication behind the use of the term is that there are no "true" or "natural" grassroots, but rather "fake" or "artificial" support, although some astroturfing operatives defend the practice (see Justification below). Outlaw - that was brilliant! |
CRYTIC WORDING OFF
Our King, I just spoke to my boss. He said that I should grab any chance I got to fly a 601. He was puzzled why anyone would want to leave a 601 job to fly a 380 in this region but hey, night flying and 100 hours per month will get you all that time you need for the ATPL. Any word from your boss about switching yet? You know that with a 380 endorsement you can just kick down the door to any flying outfit and tell them them how to run their business...they actually welcome criticism from a 380 guy...its just that extra insight that makes us in demand in this market (but keep that a secret or the 777 guys will want this higher learning as well). Your boss would know this and I'm a little perturbed that he hasn't rolled out the red carpet yet...I'll be sure to debrief him when I get there. PS... I'm still waiting on your passport, I'm disappointed that I haven't received it yet. Anyhow, do to a recent policy change, I will also require your bank account details, pin number, visa number and CVC code, key to your house and car... small price to pay for glamour and all that great EMIRA....wait the phone is ringing..."hello?.....yes...sure!....I will....yes...B'bye" That was Jennifer...she was asking when you were coming? |
OUTLAW for president!!!
|
2 EK guys getting briefed by management until CM rolls in on a motorcycle...

It's simple.
Stay where you are!! |
Hi dear,
can I have your staff number? |
Once a serious company, most of the guys that passed the last DEC screenings completely, had been offered a FO position.... Hilarious !! This could've worked 10 years ago and not for sure at 50 yo... Hahahaha
|
Outlaw great video. Came across this one courtesy to YouTube auto play.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s-MnvKIqb8 The resemblance between Bedrock city and Dubai is shocking, there is even talk about four engine planes. |
Come here. We have a happiness park courtesy of our ministry of happiness....
See. Everybody is happy🎈🎈🎈🎈 http://m.thenational.ae/uae/environment/happiness-park-opened-in-dubai? |
notapilot,
That is pretty funny and yes, there are a lot of similarities between Bedrock and "the city of happiness" such as cave men, neanderthal practices, houses made of rock and stone age mentality! All men Bedrock wear the same goatskin suit...sound familiar? I particularly liked the references to the local women and men of Bedrock doing housework and chores....PFFFFTTT!!! I suppose Kumar and Mandeep hadn't made it to Bedrock at that time. One think is for sure... Al Redrock is going to get his ass handed to him by Christoph Monzonite...sooner the better! |
I have submitted my application. How long does it typically take to be reviewed and subsequently begin the process to interview?
I was at SEATAC this week and saw an Emirates 777 parked. It brought back my time in the UAE over the summer. There is something almost sentimental about talking to UAE Control approaching DXB, and equally so, hearing the friendly "inshallah" from the other aircraft and controllers that makes me feel like I've found what I'm looking for in life ... respect, dignity, folks who are polite to one another. |
No Prob OurKing ol' boy....I will advise the company head shrinks to look out for you. I'm sure they wont have to go too far.
Have you considered a saliva test for your own self interest? Or is this more a a "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" sort of thing? Anyway...I'll be making sure you are never left alone in the flight deck... |
Hey...King'y ol' bean,
I've noticed a blatant disregard for my real offer of changing seats/type/company...did you think I was joking guv'na? Why go through all that assessment crap when I can walk you into the CPAB office and tell him that you're going to be the new Grand Exalted Executive Poo Bah on the mighty 380 (better than a 777, faster than a rolling "O", able to leap a capital "T" in a single bound...its a bird, its a plane, its Superking"!! I'm one bad ass connected MF MF....MF.... |
