A380 - The Future...

News from Farnborough.

Love it or hate it the A380 programme is headed for troubled times, lets hope it emerges unscathed but if not what does this mean for the likes of EK who are so heavily invested in marketing and facilities to support such an aircraft!

I'm sure in the worse case scenario there lies a "plan B" and many pruners will have an opinion as to what it is. I for one think this will make interesting spectating either way!

It took the educated civilisation about 500 to 1000 years to accept that the earth is not flat, but up to today some dreamers try to beat the law of physics

Put simply, EK made record profits last financial year. This record profit was made partly by using the A380 which no doubt helped contribute (large or small) to that profit. The aircraft makes money for the airline. End of....

No debate here really. Emirates will continue to make a success out of the A380s it has, especially with cheap oil.

But in the long term there is no improvements/replacements scheduled. So eventually they'll have to move over/back to 777X.

The revenue turnover was less last year than the previous year, but because of the lower costs (namely fuel) they made more money!

King.

...and despite a stronger dollar, overall economic slow-down and tempo. cancelled routes (due to conflict etc), EK still made money. On most routes the 380 flies full...NA, OZ/NZ, China. Its not just the aeroplane, but the airline that gets butts in the seats.

CaptainChipotle 14th Jul 2016 11:50

Wether of not they fill the seats and make money, if Airbus quits manufacturing the airplane the dream is over.

I feel sorry for the super fellas and all the ego's that will be deflated due to the lack of the "super stamp" they love saying on the airwaves when its not required.

fatbus 14th Jul 2016 13:44

Here again go the pilot "I can run an airline better" bs. EK needs the 380 to move 500+ pax in and out of the hub due to airport restrictions . Move to DWC @ 2022/23 will only see an increase in fleet beyond 280/300

Don't feel sorry:}.... The majority of us only use it on first contact with a new ATC freq. It's actually required in many FIRs; may stop your light twin being vectored too close to us and giving you a nasty surprise:rolleyes:

I love your statement, "Here again go the pilot "I can run an airline better" bs", and then you provide an input as to why EK needs the aircraft - practise what you preach!!

Yes, it does have a requirement to use the aircraft, but only to certain destinations - that's why the A380 hasn't sold so well to other operators. Check the load factors and yield between 2015 and 2014, you may find it informative - I'm sure you can you read a financial reports!

Thanks WK. I know the correct RT, and the reasons for it. The problem is we can hear your bonor over the frequency when you say it after every time you transmit.

fatbus 14th Jul 2016 18:11

King , only posting what STC has said to the media . Frankly i could care less how the airline is run . Makes absolutely no difference to me.

Panther 88 14th Jul 2016 18:31

With the number of issues with similar call signs throughout everywhere, I appreciate when one of my brethren says "super" after the call sign. Wish they did it on every transmission. May help mitigate some issues since the Similar Callsign Committee seems to be on an extended leave.

Capt chip proves we can't argue that recruiting standards have only been lowered recently.

TCU LUX 14th Jul 2016 19:35

Many of you are missing the point.

Airbus are losing money on each A380 they produce. They are not in the business of charity or arogence. It's time to cut their losses hence the reduction in production rates....which means a loss of economies of scale...which means the A380 product is at huge risk of being shelved all together.

Forget EK load factor/Cargo hold/Super call sign and how much the pax love to fly 380. EK are stuck with an aircraft that will be almost impossible to resell. The depreciation of their assets has just accelerated in a big way.

Also, why would any more airports invest in the infrastructure to facilitate the A380...when the chances are that not many more will be produced.

It's not good news for the A380.

donpizmeov 14th Jul 2016 19:48

Tcu,

It's just an aeroplane. It has no feelings. If it were to disappear the world would continue to function.

TCU LUX 14th Jul 2016 19:55

True. Life goes either way.

By reading the weekly incident reports it seems that the whale itself is the one with the most botched landings and complaining about wake turbulence ...... even behind the 'light twins'! :E

Or is it a drivers problem? ;)

..sounds like the 'problem' is on your side of the mic.

BTW...when does KORD, NZAA trips UPGRADE to the A380?? ;)
