Is it just my error, or have the planned rest periods both before and/or after ULR/LR duties significantly reduced?

We are having combine rest now as well more often.

(Finish in the morning hours and go out for a flight same evening)

Yep it's your error, the rules haven't changed. If they sqush the flying together, eventually you run out of hours and will be stood down. If you are really lucky you might even be asked to go to the office to work.......

Try the Flight Bid Assist. First long one up on the Triple is ADL. I believe this has reduced from 85 hrs rest After the Trip to around 52 hrs, with the Heart Factor unchanged.

By taking out the days off limit, you can now get 6, 7 or 8 day blocks.

However, they still want their pound of flesh so your hours are still there, compressed because there are less days off left between flights.

This may well become a 'sticky' thread as one thing's for sure, the problem of manpower levels is not going away and will only get worse over the next 12 months. Accused by many for my rose tinted specs, this is one part of the worsening equation that I most definitely do not applaud. A colleague on the CRM team has been advised that all the B777 CRMI's will be de activated for Feb/Mar and possible through April due to the requirement for every available pilot to be flying. How desperate is that? A workforce of over 2000 pilots on the Boeing with 10 guys forced to the line. That's 0.50%! For those line pilots who think this will not effect them, think again. There will be no spare leave from now until June on the Triple fleet so not only will this impact quality of life, morale and general welfare issues, it will also provide a lack of harmony amongst fleets. Those on the 380 are unlikely be affected, other than flying the 'normal' 90+ hours a month, whilst the 777 will do the same hours, over harder routes with many more night turns and no leave.

What also concerns me is the long term effect of this backlog of leave. Many pilots now have the potential to go almost a year without leave. Not only that, but their outstanding leave will be added to the new years 'entitlement', providing some with 60 days of leave that they'll have little or no opportunity to avail of. Someone, somewhere is responsible and should be held accountable.

And I refuse out of principle to sell my leave. It's a contractual agreement EK, so stick to it! The very fact full leave can't be provided is evidence that more pilots are required. So, Increase the package until conditions improve, give pilots the leave they're entitled too, reduce their hours and let them have sufficient days off, either in Dubai or away from it. It's not rocket science but it will involve spending money and recognising there's a problem!

Tell me, where was the triple seven sentiment when the the 330 guys were being ripped to shreds by the same moronic management?

Those guys are now making their way to the "whale" and have perhaps extended life expectancy by a few years. No one gave a flying F--- about the sub human conditions on the 330..."well its a dying fleet...who cares anyway?. Let's see...what was the quote?...."suck it up butter cup".

Now the "tractor" is getting their turn. I won't return the regards given me at the time...I have friends on the 777 who are at wits end.. I empathize.

To all the hopefuls who think this place is worth selling your soul and country to be a part or....think again....the 777 fleet is massive and the flying is only going to get worse. If you gave up a command to join the 380 as FO...you should be tested for rabies....

The company is holding on to every option to trick pilots to come here EXCEPT the one which is blatantly long over due (thats a pay raise and betterment of the terms and conditions) which one man and one man alone has served to ruin this company.

Until then...GF 2.....

Well, please don't attach my name to that quote as it certainly wasn't me....butter cup! The difference now is that not only are the guys working hard, but leave is also being affected. Not sure if that was the case on the 330? Either way, it appears lessons have not been learnt and we're still driving the pilots into the ground with worsening rather than improving conditions.

The fact is we're recruiting around 30-40 pilots per month maximum with a target of around 60-65 thereabouts. Not only are we not achieving the requirement, we're rapidly falling further behind each and every month as the shortage compounds itself. This doesn't, as far as I'm aware, account for normal attrition which is running around 2.5%. There's also bound to be further strains on training as it attempts to use the same footprint for smart, yet much less experienced young pilots. Increasing the training merely puts further pressure on a system already overstretched so how some of these far less experienced individuals will fair with the high training workload/standard is open to debate.

To get these guys through the course and onto the line may require a shift in attitude from our trainers, not something easily achievable with some!

No need to worry about the leave issue....you'll get 5 days (forced) leave every couple of months which will be strategically placed in a month where you do your 90-95 hours anyway.

I had exactly that this month.

It will never get better here, leave and don't waste your time, the new joiners have been warned so they know what to expect, good luck to them, especially to the guy who left a european major airline and gives up 10 years seniority to be a 380 captain in 3 years as he told me.

Frankly, as long as we are only complaining here, we are basically sustaining these procedures.
There is a thing called sick fatigued that mitigates it completely legally. The more they are squeezed, the less repercussions are possible. Especially skippers bear a huge responsibility to use this feature.
The most potent utilisation is down the line, but as long as we see guys doing i.e. A ORD with 3 men back, we will have the Napoleons of the Animal Farm pushing us.

Wake up to our responsibilities towards passengers, fellow crew and ourselves, or merly keep on whincing here.

The soft rest rules were lifted as per many requests and emails. This allowed the ability to have more than 5 days off . Some pilots in Nov got 8. Unfortunately you can't have it both ways.

The 330 had similar leave award problems, the 777 is no different. Welcome to the new word of 777 flying.

For me, doing a block of work followed by extended days off works perfectly well, for ME. That's why we have a bidding system, I don't care where I go, I care that I get my blocks of days off. For other guys/girls they want specific trips, that's great, and if the stupid asinine punitive rostering company rules were removed then I'd venture to say that it would work. Unfortunately there aren't enough crews, but obviously it's our fault for posting the facts on PPrune.

And just watch the 777 CA exodus accelerate - try operating a flight where you don't meet someone who has resigned, just attended a selection, or is scheduled for one. It's incredible. Good thing the resignation rate is only 2.5% lol.

Good comment about the 380 FO. Hopefully some of the 380 skippers have kept their 330 rating handy. KAL has tossed 380 DEC out there but I'll believe it when I see it. Even if it comes to pass, would only absorb a handful of those interested.

harry is right. They are behind the power curve and falling further behind all the time. It isn't rumour or conjecture, just simple numbers. And I say good on 'em.

And the reasons above go somewhere to explaining why I will stay at Flydubai flying the 737. Yes it's not very big and doesn't go very far but I enjoy only working three to four days a week, having between 12 and 15 days off every month, coming home to cooked meals and sleeping with my beautiful girl every night. Just cos its bigger and shiny and could probably fly to the moon and back, doesn't make it an enviable job!!!

Voodoo3, are these 15 actual days off or do you count in rest days in that? (ie duties finishing after midnight and duties starting early?)
