Inability to get it even remotely right - an unlimited series

Weekly update: "reports of crew taking, or asking, for items on board which have been loaded specifically for our passengers. This is not appropriate. Newspapers, pillows ….. must not be taken or used. The consequences of ignoring this could be very serious as it is a misuse of company property."

OMA 8.3.10.7.3:

"Flight crew are to be provided with suitable equipment, (blankets, pillows
eye shades, ear plugs) to enable recuperative seat rest."

falconeasydriver 13th Feb 2014 06:51

Easy to clarify, merely ask a fleet person/body at your next wash-up? or perhaps a polite enquiry to the relevant individual(s).
Post your reply here?
As a lowly F/O I would baulk at this given my predilection for stupidness, commanders on the other hand....

thehonourablefong 13th Feb 2014 06:55

How about 3500 emails asking for pillows, blankets, eye shades and ear plugs?

mooseknuckles 13th Feb 2014 06:56

Falcon, I think the point is that it should never have been sent. Of course we can ask someone to clarify, but why publish obvious BS that needs to be explained. It actually raises more questions than it seeks to answer. Polite inquiry? You go right ahead as they politely continue to screw you.

falconeasydriver 13th Feb 2014 07:00

Moose, I agree entirely with you, I was merely attempting to maintain a level of subtlety with my reply, after all we can't have delicate sensibilities damaged by stating the blindingly obvious can we :E

Rim-job 13th Feb 2014 07:29

Great, so now I have to bring my own pillows.... and lunch. :E

I wonder how the pax will feel when I stroll through the terminal with my own personal pillow in tow... LOL. :}

I can see it now...

donpizmeov 13th Feb 2014 07:41

What a bunch of muppets. If they spent more time with their heads out of their @rses our leave may have been sorted by now.
I wonder what other parts of the OMA that if complied with will also lead to "serious consequences".

But please go the extra mile.

I did not get this update.

fliion 13th Feb 2014 08:51

The freighter flights are catered with pillows, blankets, mattresses, sandwiches, multiple meals, biscuits, uniform dust removers!, Arabic and English newspapers for the crew etc, etc.

Working on that logic ...It is my assumption that this is also done for the pax flights but mixed with the others. (Or is it their intention to treat box flyers to a higher standard of luxury to people movers)

Yet another example of spraying the machine gun left, right and center because of a small minority who take the p***.

EK middle management...majestic in its simplicity..."hang 'em all"

ManaAdaSystem 13th Feb 2014 08:54

We don't have any freighter aircraft.

Cute raccoons begging for food - YouTube

Note they already begged for eye shades...

CaptainChipotle 13th Feb 2014 09:18

A follow up email was just sent.

Any unused premium class meals will be offered to economy passengers at a cost. Any unused meals after economy passengers will be offered to the flight crew and paid for in the form of salary deduction.

There will be pursers or FG1's from certain countries assigned to every flight that will make sure everything runs "smoothly".

Also, in our new "uniform bags" will be a rollup mattress filled with small nails and tacks that we are to use in the CRC. As far as controlled rest is concerned, your seat is soft enough!

CC

…hopefully my sarcasm doesn't offend anyone.

Outatowner 13th Feb 2014 09:31

Thank you gents, now we can expect the get-out-of-jail clause to be removed from the OM-A and the items on the freighter to be cut off. It does my head in the things people post here to give ideas to the twits in management who can't think it through for themselves. Talk about being our own worst enemy sometimes...

Varmint, nobody took a meal off the airplane. Someone (most of us) took a pax meal and ate it, at work, on the airplane. No one's taking food home, maybe he ate a passenger meals instead of the crappy crew meal and some snotty back-stabbing CC reported him and this is the response. Or maybe it was some asshole who bullied the CC into providing a pax meal before the orders had been taken which personally I've never seen happen in all my years but they say it does happen. If so, these assholes deserve what they get for being stupid. There are and always will be ways of getting what you like.

But Varmint don't go thinking it's okay to take food off the airplane. Not that I defend these cretins but it's called pilfering and it's no different to most other airlines. It's the most basic common sense, and stealing salad dressing (as has happened a lot) makes us all look like twats. Just use your allowances.

I don't know why you fellas even read the updates. I dont know why you even open the inbox except to get your rosters...

And if it's not in the OM-A or the Employee Regs then ignore it! Certainly please don't post it here.

Trader 13th Feb 2014 09:38

Odd how you now have to fight to get duvets catered for the CRC on ULR's...........or how they now only cater 2 meals (usually fish and pasta) for flight deck on a 6 hr plus flight- so that you have ONE meal over a 9-12 hour day (2 hours prior pick up and then after flight to hotel)...........or how some hotels do not have food available during the night........................

I agree- don't take stuff off the aircraft. But get BOTH sides of the equation right please!

fliion 13th Feb 2014 10:01

I see "Sitty" is back under a new name.

Oh lord.

What Outatowner said.

fliion 13th Feb 2014 12:12

Lol!

Nothing would make me happier than having an OM-A change as a result of a post I made. It would be very satisfying to witness that level of petty mindedness at work.

As to the Gulf News or lack thereof - I download my papers onto iPad and read strictly while outside the flight deck ; > - as against every trainer I've flown with.

OTT (pun intended) try not to insult everyone around you when making a point .. Soft skills old chap...soft skills...

Would someone PLEASE get that gentleman a proof reader. That's two in two weeks that if applied the LETTER of the law (like we are made to with our SOPs) we couldn't eat or drink in uniform, only have coffee/tea brought from home, as earlier posted dragging a pillow and blanket through the terminal etc, etc. I know if I were the SVP of anything, I would sure make sure that anything that went out with my name attached was not "what the captain meant to say". OTOH, maybe it's exactly what he meant to say. Can't read the man's mind.........

ekwhistleblower 13th Feb 2014 18:47

Don't worry boys I've found the new crew meals!

Snake man 14th Feb 2014 04:20

Perhaps it would be appropriate to look at this letter in a different light:
I believe that some of our pilots, whilst playing the "humble game" when they first arrive in Dubai, slowly find their sense of self-entitlement growing beyond reasonable proportions as the years go by. Finally, when they reach the left seat, this over-inflated sense of self-entitlement has reached unhealthy proportions, and they get into trouble.
Demanding a duvet, when there are only enough to cover the amount of 1st class passengers, or duck-starter, or whatever else, is going to generate a report from the cabin crew. Not because they are vindictive, but because if a 1st class passenger complains that he couldn't have the lamb-shanks; that report is going to filter all the way through cabin services, to catering, and finally end at the purser's feet. When the purser says that Captain Precious demanded the lamb-shanks, this is going to end at AS's feet. And then he's going to have to respond. First response: kick Captain Precious in the jack. Second response: put out an e-mail to all, so that it doesn't happen again.
Is the e-mail reasonable? I think at the very least it's understandable. Is it well written? Quite frankly, I think that some of the workforce is so hostile, that even a letter penned by Hemingway himself, would meet with derision.
The point is: do all the chaps with unhealthy levels of self-entitlement get the message? Calm down, precious. Occasionally you might have to rough it, and sleep with one pillow, not two. You might sleep with a blanket, not a duvet. And yes, you might not get the duck starter.
Enough nonsense now.
