Snake, I don't think anyone would really disagree with what you say. And that I believe is what the spirit of the missive was "meant" to be. But that is not what his words said. It should not be up to us to try and interpret what a man in his position is trying to convey. Maybe I should try and interpret what the OM-A says. How's that going to work out.

First he says eating or drinking whist in uniform. Not while transiting the terminal or whatever, simply eating or drinking in uniform. Next comes NOTHING boarded for the passengers is to be used......That implies to me everything; soft drinks, coffee, tea, leftover rolls or whatever. That's what the gentleman said. So imagine if this email gets to some grade 2. How do they interpret it? You tell me.

Words have meaning. You are interpreting his intention just like some CC might. Who's to say who is right?

Dear SM,
i read the email, english is not my first language but as you said i found it pretty simple and properly written (for my level of english).
I think the problem is not about what the email says, the problem is that because the employees have been so poorly managed and completely disrespected that even proper requests (as this one) are not welcome.
Since when i joined ek i improved my English (At least i believe.....:)) and i learnt many phrases ........ the one i would use in this case is: You reap what you saw

donpizmeov 15th Feb 2014 07:24

falconeasydriver 15th Feb 2014 09:31

Those things contain info Don?

donpizmeov 15th Feb 2014 10:14

Not as anonymously as we are lead to believe it would seem.

ruprecht 15th Feb 2014 11:08

We've been getting these types of emails at QF for the last 3 years...:hmm:

The codesharing must now include the Qantas Department of Obvious.

An FG1 recently told me that a certain "local" captain (Who is well known for all the wrong reasons) demands caviar even if the company regs for doing so are not met. This includes yelling racist put-downs in earshot of the punters in row one when she said no.
She knew she could not win that battle so did what he wanted.
It appears that someone has decided to indeed take that one on.
Waste of time.
This will be a never ending circle as nothing will change.

A bedouin eating caviar.... it's enough to make you think that they have evolved into being a civilised part of society! :}

Are we talking about the same skipper who bears a resemblance to this character in looks and voice? (minus the copious amounts of hair!)

I think the Captain in question has more medals.

thehonourablefong 20th Feb 2014 14:13

What do people think of the follow up email from today?

I thought (and I know pretty much exactly what several of you are going to say) that it's a much more appropriately written email - less of the whipping style (of course some people enjoy that), the bit about the 777 is something I was surprised to see too - not just 'The 777 seats aren't going to be changed', as I would have expected usually, but an explanation as to why they won't be, and even mention of the future of 777 seats - for those who wanted to know...not me by the way.

Alan, seeing as this thread is doubtlessly being watched along with the other EK ones, I for one will put my hand up and say generally, the pilots more than anything (well, pay that keeps up with the cost of living would be nice as well) want a bit of respect, and while appreciating that some try to ruin it for the majority, is there any chance that we could keep relations on the track of this email, as opposed to just getting beaten up from above?

People might even start smiling again...

halas 20th Feb 2014 15:14

If l remember Emma, the story line was impossible dictator slips through the cracks, becomes a nobody and realises what a c*nt he has been by female who (for what ever reason) takes him under her wing.

The Dilak who works here would never understand that line and will never fall between the cracks.

He will always be a pain that does not go away. Therefor we will continue to get these emails from TCAS.

Look forward to his requests for whole roster for days off……again.

Pilots are like tires at EK, they wear you out and then replace you.

Regarding the issue of seat design, I believe a bigger factor is actually the amount of time we spend sitting in the seat. We could have the best seats ever designed but we would still suffer from back pain due to the duration of the flights.

The reality of the spine is that it is also a hydraulic shock absorber The longer we are upright or sitting the more compressed that shock absorber becomes, hence the reason that the medical community suggests eight hours of sleep a night. The eight hours of sleep allows the spine to decompress after the effects of gravity throughout the day.

Unfortunately it is to the point where I normally have to start my day with two advills before I can get up, this is because of the back pain I have only started to suffer since working for emirates and the associated longer schedule.

90+ hours per month, every month just hurts!

Outatowner 21st Feb 2014 17:58

Fong, the begging is unbecoming. One civilised email does not a pay rise make. Nothing important is going to improve although I've heard there might be another issue of oven mitts coming our way this year which is almost as good as more cash.

The discussion on seat quality is just a distractor and it probably worked on the less jaded.

max AB 22nd Feb 2014 05:49

Oven Mitts.....now you're talking....extra two miles for me.!
