Qatar Airways to join One World alliance
In an interesting turn of developments for GCC carriers, it looks like Qatar Airways will be the first airline to join one of the three major alliances.
Sources have revealed that Oneworld Airline Alliance is set to officially welcome its first Gulf carrier member next week: Qatar Airways. This move makes Qatar the first of the rapidly expanding Gulf carriers to join a global airline alliance. The airline will join fellow alliance members of British Airways and American Airlines. Having in mind previous close connections with Lufthansa and United, I think Star Alliance would make more sense. But what do I know...

There are many contradicting stories online, many sources claiming it to be a sure thing while some quote AAB and QR as having denied the rumors.
A "major" oneworld announcement is set for 8 October (Monday), not long to wait to find out what the truth is. In any case, how does this effect the pilots? |

I suspect that it was Oneworld that approached Qatar, rather than the other way round.
I would love to know what was put on the table to convince AAB to say 'yes'. |

To the passenger it will mean the arrivals/departure boards covered by 'many carriers' operating one flight.
