Questions LFRK

LFRK,

1/ you are eligible for ID50 straight away for everybody, yourself, wife, kids, immediate family, your parents and siblings. These are confirmed seats. You can only book them if there are enough empty seats available. If the aircraft is almost full, you normally can't buy them anymore. They are 50% of the highest full fare. So not 50% of some cheap tickets you find online. I guess that Eco ID50 CDG ( suppose you are from Caen!?) is about 250-300€.

ID90 are standby tickets. You only get on if you there's space available. CDG business is about 300EUR. As an FO you can only buy ID90 Eco or business. Kids only Eco. Upgrades are not given at EK. Even for staff. Yes, I know!

2/ I believe the wife can come straight away. There is a fee to be paid by yourself, not sure how much. Don't think EK mind since you are the one that goes through all the hassle and paperwork... Anyway most people do not do it. Especially since you will more than likely be gone to TLS or MAN for your airbus transition course anyway... It is much simpler if she comes the moment you are back in DXB.

Remark that prices are quite high because Pax taxes in CDG are very high.
Hope it helps,
EK380

Ps: will probably meet during your training...

Anyone get a reply yet regarding the ATL assessment?

johng723 11th Jul 2011 23:39

Not yet...

Luckyheader 12th Jul 2011 09:47

Does anyone know if Emirates will accept you into the hold pool without a full ATPL, but have a start date that coincides with the date you are expecting to gain the license?

Thanks!

junkyardfreightdog 12th Jul 2011 13:51

I am waiting to hear back when my pre assessment will be in ATL as well. I did have contact a few hours ago, asking me to fill out a snap shot application. I attended the open house at JFK yesterday. Has anyone used latestpilotjobs.com to prep for the interview? Any feedback or recommendations are appreciated.

glofliser 15th Jul 2011 01:08

I received my invitation to ATL on June 27. Got my confirmation e-mail today, July 14.

From what I understand it is not possible to complete the selection process completely if you don't have a full ATPL.

You're able to do everything up to and including the simulator assessment. For the rest you'll need to attain your ATPL first.

junkyardfreightdog 17th Jul 2011 00:48

I have been un-invited to ATL since the plane I fly isn't an "airliner", it's a business jet. It does exceed 30 tons and I meet all hour requirements posted. Hopefully they will drop the "airliner" requirement soon for my case.

Questions about joining.

Hello.

I had a few questions that maybe some of you guys at EK can answer. This is my first post so be gentle:ouch:. I am due to start training at the end of september. I currently fly a crj in the states and am married with a 3 year old son.
  1. I will be sent to Toulouse for training on the Airbus. What is training like in France? My family will fly to France and spend a week there with me, will this be possible with the amount of training? My wife wants to play tourist while i am in ground school:(
  2. I am an avid camper and backpacker. Should i bring my own bbq grill or is there places in dubai where i can buy a nice grill. We like to go camping often, does anyone have any good or bad experiences.
  3. Is there good pre-schools near silicon oasis that you would recommend? Since i am on that topic, does the education allowance cover pre-school?
Thank you in advance for any answers.

Elite Assessment program!

Can anyone give any feedback on the Elite Assessment program which is posting banners all over PPrune? Would like to know if it's a good program or a waste of time. Would also like some feedback on Skytest. If any comparisons can be made between the two, I would really appreciate.

Spoogie:ok:

Fred Garvin M.P. 19th Jul 2011 04:07

Snookie,
Can only reply to question 2. There are places to buy grills here, but they are way expensive. Same grill at home depot is about 4x's as much as it is here. A decent four burner grill (like the stainless CharBroil) with side burner is around $270 in the states (USD) here it's closer to 900 USD. Decent charcoal grills can go between 150 - 400 USD. You can find them all over the place here, ACE (way expensive), Carrefour, Garden Center, etc etc.

You WILL be busy! Especially coming from CRJ to 330.... Toulouse is a great city with lots to see and do but I suspect you'll have your head buried in the FCOMS - and if you have any sense, the OM-A too:ok:

yoyonow 19th Jul 2011 05:08

Snookie,

Forgive me, I realise that you asked us to be gentle! Therefore, and in order to avoid a rant, I will ask you a question:

- You are moving your wife , kids, career to a new airline, aircraft, country, continent and you haven't done the research (having accepted the job) to know the answers to some pretty fundamental lifestyle and work ethic questions?

Hopefully you will get some more constructive answers, you need them, but please don't be posting on here in 3 years time complaining that you don't have the hours for command etc. etc. By the way your naivety extends to the fact that EK and all on PPRune now know who you are!

For what it's worth, I think WK was being relaxed for a change, I wouldn't let my family join me until I could guarantee at least a semblance of a normal lifestyle. Post training and setting up home in Dubai.

Oblaaspop 19th Jul 2011 09:36

Have to agree with Yoyo.

Keep the family well away until you are at least towards the end of line training (about 2 months after joining).

No disrespect, but WK has a point.... you WILL find it a tough transition coming from the CRJ to the A330, but moreover it will be the EK operation that will present the biggest challenges for you. You WILL really need to bury your head in the books and study hard as nothing here is handed to you on a plate training wise, so if you have the distraction of the family milling around, you will find it very tough indeed!

EK only provide educational allowance to kids who have gone past their 4th Birthday at the beginning of the academic year.

Good luck on the course, see you on the line:ok:

What to bring to Pre-Selection Programme?

Hello all,

I have combed through hundreds of posts here, but I haven't seen anything on what to physically bring with you to the pre-selection day? Logbooks? Calculator? Resume? Obviously my license/medical. Anything else? Any other last words of wisdom?

Thank you.

pilotrob23 19th Jul 2011 22:58

I will be there. My email said license, medical, and a couple passport pics. Excited nonetheless. Hope to see you there.

Mostly Smooth 20th Jul 2011 03:17

Cool, thanks. Should be interesting! Looking forward to it.

Snookie 20th Jul 2011 05:54

I appreciate the answers to my questions.

Mysalami 20th Jul 2011 17:19

I had an interesting conversation with a newish joined ex crj driver last night at longs bar. Seems he just worked out that he will become eligible for a command at the same time as those Cadets that graduated 18months before he did. His no time on aircraft above 55t means that his only advantage is that he will get to 6000hrs before the cadet that joined the same day as he did.
It didn't appear he did much research before joining EK. This kind of info should not come as a surprise after joining.
The recruitment team will explain the command criteria and answer your questions if you ask them.

Instant Hooligan 20th Jul 2011 18:35

Then you can give him the good news(insert sarcasm here), it's only 4000hrs above 55T required not 6000, or roughly 5-6 years.

millerscourt 20th Jul 2011 19:11

Snookie

Also when you have passed all this you can look forward to flying with White Knight. I would love to be a fly in the cockpit:ok:

I would take yoyonow's advice and leave family at home until checked out on the line.

I did that when I joined SQ (A340) as a DEC from GF(B767) You do not need family distractions IMHO.

does any one know how long after your interview you can reapply?? i recently did my interview and made it all the way to the last day but was unsuccesful with the panel interview.:ok:

FO age limit

WK and Don,

Sorry I may be misunderstanding the OM-A but in Section 5, Page 6 under Co-Pilot Qualifications 5.2.2 and 5.2.3 it states: "Aged 53 or younger on joining, with experience commensurate with age". I believe "Sippy" stated he was 51, just wondering where you get age 48 from? I've searched the FOIP and EK Careers website and there is no mention of age? Do you have a reference for the age 48 rule?

Cheers

Eligibility for re-application

does any one know how long after your interview you can reapply?? i recently did my interview and made it all the way to the last day but was unsuccesful with the panel interview.
Currently 2 years from the date of the interview. But given the overwhelming demand for cockpit crews that may change downward as well.

wheel lock 23rd Jul 2011 18:43

FO Age limit

Hey Don,

Still waiting for a response from "White Knight on the age 48 thing? Do you have any input? OM-A states age 53 for an FO to join EK. Not sure if I have my info correct, would appreciate any info.

Cheers:ok:

donpizmeov 23rd Jul 2011 18:52

Gday Wheel lock,

It would appear that previous command is required for the age to be 53. If no command then the age limit is 48, hence the commensurate experience bit. Or so it was explained to me by a Kiwi HR boss some months ago.

It was ruled this way for the fella I made the inquiry for anyway.

Rog! Thanks for the clarification "Don".

Hiring slowing down in Ramadan!!

Anyone knows if hiring will slow down during august. It is holly month of Ramadan.

Thanks

Craggenmore 24th Jul 2011 11:40

Snookie,

Airbus Training is Monday to Friday with weekends off. It was relentless and for people with no Airbus experience I can see how hard it must have been. Lots of CRJ guys were scratching their heads earlier on in the year!

We had little time off between sessions to digest what you just did, rest and then prepare for the next session.

(The Boeing guys back in Dubai on my intake had far more time between sims to prepare.)

Have your family over for a weekend to break up the flow, but if your coming off a CRJ, then as others have said, you will need time to get adjusted to the Airbus modes and flying style.

I had previous Bus experience and when my family came over I still had to disappear to get the work completed.

Lovely restaraunts though but mind the dog-crap and beggars everywhere!

ek INTERVIEW

HI i've reapplied after 3 years for my first interview(completed all the process included medical),my application is unsuccesfull ,and they need pilots

FFG 02 24th Jul 2011 15:25

More roadshows

I just got an email about Emirates doing another 4 roadshows in Sydney.

Do they think they will get that many applications from one city (they were here about 2 months ago).

Or....

are they circling Qantas and its big announcement on August 24th?

EY763ER 24th Jul 2011 17:33

Hello!

quick question for those in the know:

if you complete days 4 of the interview process including the medical check, assuming that you receive a good medical result and good refrences, are there applicants who have still been rejected from EK after all this?

thanks in advance for your comments.

ils36 28th Jul 2011 03:49

training in ek.

I read this forum assidously, but I never see anything related to ground training once hired.
Someone can to explain a little the process up to line check, and de pay during the training?
How long it take?

thanks a lot

Elite assessment is a really good site for the interview...they have it very well done and its a great prep for the interview

Luckyheader 1st Aug 2011 10:15

For those who have recently passed the selection and been offered a start date...when is the start date for? Three months from now or next year?

Thanks!

pre selection

Hi, I've just been invited to a pre selection interview in Madrid. Just wondering if anyone knows whether Emirates helps with transport costs and hotels for this, as they would if you went for the full process down in Dubai. I'd be going to Spain from the UK, if that helps.
