EK F/O

Bluesky: you know what word "marooned" means:ugh: if not please read your safety emergency procedure manual immediately before you go for any interview:ooh: . then think why marooned does not wish you be marooned in another job?
Having said that, here is what you should consider:
What's the difference between an MD90/RJ170 and a BOEING777?
Length is for one.
Cabin seating for two.
International airspace flights for three.
Need say more or would you be able to consider the options:confused:
INV

Lil Bro 18th Mar 2007 05:49

what is LHS, RHS?
I assume RHS = FO(right hand seat) LHS = CA(left hand seat) Is this correct?
Why do you recommend FO seat over PIC time in a MD?

fatbus 18th Mar 2007 09:57

Pilots come here for the "Big" airplane and "international " experience and dont give a thought to what they are giving up. Point is, its not as big a deal as you think it is to fly the "Big" airplane and go "international" . Dont let your pilot EGO decide whats good for your family. There is good and bad reasons for coming here, all im saying is think before you jump.

Blueskyb777:

I am currently working for EK and reluctantly in the process of leaving. My experience of EK has led to my conclusion that moving to any company should be based on Ts & Cs and not the size/type of the aircraft.

Many that have come to EK for the widebody/new aircraft and international routes eventually become disappointed as the terms and conditions fall below that of their previous job...in EKs case any 'comparable' job. Be aware that also any contract signed today has and will be changed by EK to suit themselves and there is nothing you can do about it.

As for the lies, well for the many who expected their commands based on their seniority and experience within the company, who were then delayed significantly by policy changes on fleet transitions and the introduction of DECs, they were lied to. Lied to because they were quite blatently 'disadvantaged' by the company despite assurances to the contrary. As far as the DECs are concerned it would have been quicker for some of the F/Os involved to have remained with their previous carriers as captains and applied later as DECs...

There were others where the brake was applied to their 'accelerated' commands as the criteria changed after they had joined... I'd call that being lied to too.

They are now trying frantically to dig themselves out of a hole dug entirely by themselves. They are now even considering contract pilots 'temporarily' but if it works out it will be permanent enough to 'disadvantage' many.
Instead of focusing on the real problems in an attempt to make EK the 'wannabe airline of choice' they are reverting to type and the myopic solutions which will inevitably cause more serious problems in the longer term.

All I can say is be very careful in your choice to come here, especially if it involves giving up the chance for the LHS, and especially especially based on anything given out by EK HR/PR.

Good luck whatever you do.

Emirates Interview

What is the likelihood of getting hired at EK if references haven't been contacted two weeks after interview? No rejection letter as of yet but was wondering if hiring is predicated on referees being called. Made it thru the 3-day process. Thanks for input..Anticipation is killing me!!!

mikusiaa 20th Mar 2007 01:14

EK offer

Hello all--what is the likelihood of getting the job offer if references HAVE NOT been contacted after 2-weeks of interviewing?? Haven't received the resignation letter as of yet and am wondering if the offer is predicated on referees being called? Patience is running out!!! Thanks for input

nolimitholdem 20th Mar 2007 06:44

errr...if you can't wait more than three minutes for a reply to your post, or more than two weeks to find out about EK, you will definitely not be able to cope with day to day life in Dubai.

You may not have heard, but EK recruitment is a little busy these days...I don't think two weeks is long at all. Hang in there.

Interview sim check

Hello all,
I was wondering if you are given a choice of seat for the FO interview simulator check. In other words, do they let you fly from either the LHS or RHS depending on where you feel most comfortable? Thank you much for this or any other information you can provide.
O

Orangewing 22nd Mar 2007 20:55

You get a choice of which seat you would like to sit in for the sim ride, whichever you feel most comfortable in. A training Captain will sit in the other seat :\

orangutan 23rd Mar 2007 00:26

OK, thanks Orangewing!

CONCOMBRE 31st Mar 2007 12:22

Hi everybody,
I've read the thread for a while, but I didn't find those one:
I had an invitation for EK recruitment, and my roster was slightly busy last days, I will attend the selection process in several days.
At a glance and in order to sum up:
:} I guess I'll go through a sim check and a technical quizz the first day, I'll go through a group discussion day n°2. Personal interviews are scheduled on day3,.
Is all of that correct?
:8 If I get hired as a EK B777 F/O; for the time being, is the EK average time to get a command on this type (or other), around 5 years?
:E Regardless the whole package, what is the after May, expected, F/O salary, in USD ?
Could any one tell me?

Thylakoid 31st Mar 2007 17:02

F/O salary after May 2007 ... something around USD5,400.00 gross.
Deductions are 5% provident fund, car loan (if you take it), pilot's club, family insurance.
Time to upgrade ... only god knows. Policies change very often to suit company's needs. Depending on your experience, they might put you up for an accelerated command course, or freeze you in the right seat between three to five years. Airplanes are arriving fast, routes are being opened fast and unless some regional or world wide upheavel comes along, things look all right for a young pilot (in his thirties) at EK. They have no commitment with employees, though. Your aspirations are not the priority, sad to say, but this is like any other big business.

I had my interview some fifteen years ago, so I am not the right one to give you info on that. I am sure some new guy can give you a better picture of the new hiring process. I know they are full of this CRM bull****, multicultural skills, democratic thinking, all this sort of crap:)

The only time you would really be tested as a pilot would be in the sim assessment. You have to show that you can fly and manage the cockpit, even from the right seat. So, have a problem? Fly, assess, manage, action, re-assess ... something to that effect:E

All the best

CONCOMBRE 1st Apr 2007 11:20

Thank you for the reply,

I will attend the EK selection process as 777 F/O. To date I'm reaching 8000 FH :ugh: , mainly spent on medium and heavy jet, with a previous captain experience on lighter aircraft. Do you think EK may regard those elements to upgrade?

MMSOBGYTAST 1st Apr 2007 12:15

Con,

You might end up on an airbus you know.

All you asked is true- + a medical on the third day.

CONCOMBRE 1st Apr 2007 12:44

Thank MMSO,

In an Airbus case, any bond?:E

Scudsy 1st Apr 2007 14:33

Bonded

Yes you'll be bonded for the first 3 years and I don't know what the figure is now but it will be substantial. In this current climate of pilot employment it may be worth shopping around before leaping into a bond agreement.

Just my opinion,

good luck

Scudsy

Hey fellas.I've got about 13,500 hrs TT.About 6,000 of those in Command of 737 classics.Plus about 3,200 hrs in Command of 737NG's(all international routes).Total PIC time is approx 9,200 hrs.Am a recently upgraded TRI in my current airline(was a check airman for over a year).

fatbus 7th Apr 2007 04:26

Just curious to know from those that have interviewed at EK as to how long it takes to get an interview at EK after submitting the online application?

Also, how often does one recommend updating the application?

Thanks,

Fellas,

Need ur favor,is there much different contain prep for cx and ek.

Many thanks indeed.

OtG:hmm:

six7driver 26th Apr 2007 04:32

on the glide, was told by close friend who just interviewed that he found the xyz ek guide good in general, even though absolutely none of the tech questions in the xyz guide were in the tech quiz (he's a reliable source). He told me that he found the xyz guide a good general prep guide, with good pointers. He said the questions on the tech exam are ATPL type questions, performance, engines, aerodynamics ect...and it's multiple guess, er choice. As for the difference with the CX guide yes there are quite a few diffs especially with regards to backround info on the company. hope this helps. Cheers

Some mates of mine over at EK say there's a fair bit of racism within...true?

Anyway, what are the nationalities of the EK pilots?

Also, the EK ab-initio program for locals? How's that working out?

Cheers

What is the process of contacting the applicants after the 3 days of interview. Some candidates take longer than others to be contacted, doe's a referee check indicate a possible employment offer ?

BAPILOT 13th May 2007 19:51

Just Be Yourself

Fortunately Emirates Are Training Their Own People So Wish You Best Of Luck My Friend

marinegunner 14th May 2007 23:46

In reference to JayK's question about racism at Emirates, I am curious about the hiring of women there. I am very interested in pursuing them, but was wondering if they would be more turned away from hiring a chick. Want to know what to expect or if it might be a difficult time getting their interest in me. Currently flying heavy international, so I'm more interested in Emirates and the living in Dubai.

fatbus 15th May 2007 04:07

women pilots are welcome, so far the same standard is applied to them. if you have good time in your log book you would not have a problem

5man 30th May 2007 03:15

Just want to get some facts right. Basic pay for an fo is dhs20840 which is less than what EY is offering right. ( I thought there was just a pay rise recently ). The website mentioned hourly flying pay based on block hours. Is there allowance when abroad ie. night stops??? And also the website is pretty vague on medical coverage. So please, could anyone shed some light on this matter. Is EK looking for drivers on both fleets at present???

Crinklstein 30th May 2007 06:23

New Basic pay scale

1) FO basic pay: 22072 Dhs = 6014 USD
2) Nightstop ave: 55 Quid UK, similar in Europe, Asia will be less. Don't count on saving anything of that.
3) Flight pay 35 Dhs per hour based on 75 hours per month (900 hours in 365), but in reality we only should be working 10.615 months of the year if we account for leave. So That averages out to 2322 Dhs extra per month for flight pay. Which is 633 USD.
4) ERP or exchange rate protection, some get extra some don't. Check website for figures. If we use our sheep hugger friends form NZ, they get an extra 1,200 Dhs based on the old scale.
5) Phone allow. 22 Dhs

Total:

22,072
2,322
22
+1,200
25,616 Dhs = 6,980 USD

5man 30th May 2007 08:17

Thanks for the insight. So the overall package does not look bad at all. :O
As for the apartment, well read lots of not so good things on it in the forum. Is the 3bedroom apartment that bad? Just want to know how the deco and furnitures are like. After reading what the guys said I have this old and 1980's mental picture of the place. :ugh: As for upgrades would 5years be the general waiting time? Or does it depend on which fleet I am in? On average how many layovers does a typical pilot gets in a month and what sort of pattern would one expect? Just trying to get as much info as I can before making a decision.

Crinklstein 30th May 2007 09:49

All the old apartments are taken and there is a shortage of accomodation so when a new one is ready guess what, you'll get a new one. The Millenium tower is fantastic. The furniture and decor is very modern with 2 squash courts a resort type pool on the 7th floor and a very modern gym with lots and lotsa eye candy.

Upgrade: Boeing 3 years. Airbus under 4 years.

Rosters: Depends on how you bid, 5 bid-groups. Example of a Boeing roster. 2 JFKs, 1 LHR, 1 MNL = 85:20 block hours

Flight Pay: 85.33 x 35 = 2,986 Dhs
Overtime: (85.33 - 76) x 325 Dhs/hr = 3,032 Dhs

June Pay:

22,072 Basic
22 Telephone
2,986 Flight Pay
3,032 Overtime
+1,200 Exchange rate Protection (For a NZ National)
29,312 Dhs

7,986 USD

Oh and almost forgot... 18 days off!

Crinklstein 30th May 2007 09:55

To answer your q on layovers:

You can bid for as many as you like or as little as you like. The bidding system is very flexible. You can avoid places, FOs or Captains, night flights etc, or desire them, fly only turnarounds, only asia, if you have yellow fever....do what you like. If you bid correctly then you're in like Flynn.

:yuk:

fatbus 30th May 2007 09:58

18 days off 2 jfk 1 lhr and 1 mnl, is that what you get every month or is that you r top month? would not count on OT everymonth but by the sounds of it lots this summer and more so on the B. would not base your plan as to weather to come or not on the above roster, but you can get that roster in an upper bid month. 1600 plus pilots now would have to be 3200 ish for the upgrade , my guess is 4 maybe 4.5 years for thr upgrade by then would make any difference which fleet.
