Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022

Breaking News! Qatar will host FIFA WORLD CUP 2022.
This is pretty good for Qatar... and what about Qatar Airways?
In which way do you guys think this will contribute for QR success?

left_to_first_class 2nd Dec 2010 16:13

Fantastic news for Qatar and all the football supporters in and around the Gulf.

Hope they don't hold it in the summer months ... little bit hot!

auh_to_auh 2nd Dec 2010 16:35

World cup is held around June-July after the European football season.

KFFZ 2nd Dec 2010 16:50

I'm sure it will bring some good benefits for QR as it would be for sure the official carrier of the World Cup...

jackdaniels 2nd Dec 2010 17:07

I'm just thinking what Qatar is planning to do with the 15 airconditioned stadiums after the world cup!!!
:ugh:

KFFZ 2nd Dec 2010 17:14

Qatar will dissemble the stadiums and reassemble them in 3rd world countries,
that's what they planned to do after the world cup, I think it's a very generous gesture.

deserthawk9 2nd Dec 2010 17:28

$2022.0000

This has nothing to do with football.
I am not a fan.
The world's biggest festival of football with an audience of hundreds of millions of people will have no choice but to watch this event on TV. A few thousand fans wil be able to attend in person so long as they fit the desirable profile of this medieval country. The stadia will be superb and air conditioned. The changing rooms will be out of this world.
They will be built by slave labour who are working for approximately $5oo per month and have no civil rights whatsoever. The people of Qatar have no interest in football. The right to stage this competition has been bought. It will take some time for this to be demonstrated by the media but 12 years should be enough.
FIFA have confirmed what everyone suspected of them.

flyzede 2nd Dec 2010 17:47

QR announces that they will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013... I really think that this World Cup can increase this numbers... and they have 12 years to plan their strategy.
I know the World Cup it's just one month, but it has a giant publicity worldwide until it starts.
Tourism facilities will be developed... I bet Qatar will never be the same...
The New Doha Intl. Airport is the first step! Anyone knows when will it be really ready?

deserthawk9 2nd Dec 2010 18:42

Dear Sheik Wayne Bin MU

Great news. The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar, the heart of football in the Middle East since 22 December 2010.

Now that Qatar have secured two sets of goal posts and a white line making machine we are anxious to put together the team of diehard professionals that will make this event the huge success that it deserves to be.

Given your liking for shagging around, spitting and foul language, the Qatari Football Association would like to employ you as an ambassador who properly represents everything that Qatar loves about football.

Money is no object so as soon as you have a few days free from your intensive training regime perhaps you could come down here and spend a few days living it up in the Qatari disco and nightlife world.

There is nothing they like more here than a bit of binge drinking, roudy and abusive singing followed by some chucking up in the streets and a few good natured brawls. At least the supporters that are able to come here will be able look forward to finding out if they will be allowed to leave at the end of their visit.

You'll be 37 by then and if your performance in any critical match is anything to go by will be well past your sell by date so this could be the perfect opportunity for you to add to your remarkable portfolio.

What a great day for the beautiful game!

2022 Qatar

Just Move on and get a life... its 12 years away but actually its a good thing!

Why can't anybody be positive about this.?

Att. Moderator!

We should rename this forum as winers forum or correct my level 4 english to complainers forum!

bigdaviet 2nd Dec 2010 19:20

I'm delighted for Qatar overall, congratulations to them and their bid!

I'm sure that laws on alcohol will be relaxed enough for anyone who enjoys drink in moderation to have a good time. If they lock away some of the scum bags then good on them!

Some real issues with regard to slave labour though. I would hope that FIFA will put pressure accordingly, but sadly I suspect the building sites will be full of workers from the sub-continent earning peanuts. This is totally wrong and not what the world cup should be about.

Qatar Airways will be delighted and although the world cup is only one month in 2022, the profile of Qatar has, in the space of a few hours, now risen exponentially. I'm sure that was the idea all along.

12 Years from now is a long time.... just enjoy the ride!!!!!!!

Im sure we all have other worries!

auh_to_auh 2nd Dec 2010 20:12

Why would FIFA worry about the slave labor SB and 10 of his cronies (11 votes from round 1) just set up their retirement fund.

deserthawk9 2nd Dec 2010 20:23

Stating the obvious.

:D
Yes, this is very good news for Qatar. It has little to to do with the promotion of football or the enhancement of international relations with Qatar.

If Qatar realy believes that it can be the host of a free and international World Cup in 2022 then Qatar should start, at the earliest opportunity, to do away with the draconian control of immigration and more importantly emmigration that exist at the moment.

The world's media will descend on Qatar in the build up to 2022. If the civil rights of the immigrant workforce are as bad then as they are now then the huge media coverage of the World Cup may not be as beneficial as is presently imagined.

Let us hope that the leadership, having achieved this result by whatever means, are able to convert this award into a huge demonstration of the ability of an arab nation to act in a civilised way.

flyzede 2nd Dec 2010 20:32

deserthawk9: I totally agree with your last post. Altough I'm not living in the Middle East right now, I understand what you mean!

I guess it's just a question of time for things to get smoother in the Gulf.

Uncle Wiggily 2nd Dec 2010 20:36

Call it like it is: Qatar bought the vote. I'm not bitter, that's the only explanation.

So, as I read there will be stadiums in "multiple cities" errrrr...multiple cities? OK, Doha is a glorified strip mall with a single pub at the Marriott Hotel. What are these other cities? Is FIFA counting Akbar's camel ranch 5 km outside Doha as one of these "cities". Perhaps the pack of 30 Filipino lounge singers living in a 25 sq. meter flat on the outskirts of Doha is another "city"? WTF?

So what do people do on their "holiday time" while waiting to watch their team play their next match?....Hang out and watch the locals drag race their super-kitsch hot-rod cars up and down the highway? Go for a stroll up and down the air conditioned mall a thousand times? Go on a guided tour of.....sand?

Wow, god bless Qatar because they must have seriously already spent a fortune on bribery fees.

flyzede 2nd Dec 2010 20:41

Uncle Wiggily: Don't you think Qatar will be different 12 years from now?

Uncle Wiggily 2nd Dec 2010 20:52

flyzede: I'm sure there is always room for a few more TGI Fridays.

In all seriousness, the media should keep tabs on the labour force used to construct these new cities. It is barbaric how the overlords of these nations manage the Bangladeshi, Filipino and Indian migrant workers....just look at Dubai.

aba343 2nd Dec 2010 20:55

Agree, thanks to oil and gas, otherwise forget it , the must have paid lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ to get it , $$$$$ can't change mentality and attitude:ugh:

flyzede 2nd Dec 2010 20:59

Uncle Wiggily: ;) as long as they have beer!

Uncle Wiggily 2nd Dec 2010 21:08

beer....you mean that stuff that is brewed 3000 km away and then loaded with preservatives to give 3x the shelf life? Funny how you can drink 2 beers in the Middle East and have a mind splitting hangover vs. drinking 2 beers in countries that actually have breweries nearby and feel perfectly fine. :ugh:

ptr120 2nd Dec 2010 22:33

It'll be interesting to see what happens sponsorship wise too. Emirates are a FIFA TOP partner - could there be a bidding war with QR to be the official airline partner in 2022?

motley flight crue 2nd Dec 2010 22:55

Australia lose to QATAR! a more undeserving country I cannot think off.
Well done to the corrupt 3rd world delegates of FIFA. Maybe these delegates can donate some of their bribes to the slaves that will build this tournament.

aba343 2nd Dec 2010 23:10

and you have to show your passport in order to get in the bar and enjoy the beer

GAGing in Bahrain 3rd Dec 2010 07:04

Good things that will happen as a result of Qatar winning the World Cup Draw:

1) The "Friendship Bridge" (and I use the term friendship very, very loosely) will finally be built much to the chagrin of both ruling families. 2) The construction sector will boom for the next decade.

flyzede 3rd Dec 2010 08:13

EK vs. QR sponsorship "war"???

ptr120: Here is something I'd like to see discussed in this thread!
Once Emirates it's the Official Carrier of the Fifa World Cup since 2006, will there be a "war" on this vs. Qatar Airways?
I don't think Qatar would let go this opportunity to boost QR worldwide!!

mutt 3rd Dec 2010 08:42

The present population of Qatar is circa 1.5 million, the attendance for the South African World Cup was over 3 million, that's twice the population. Is the infrastructure capable of hosting that many visitors? Also considering that this will be same period as the inbound Hajj movement, it should be extremely interesting to see how the airlines gear up to serve both markets.

145qrh 3rd Dec 2010 08:47

So what happens when Israel qualifies for 2022 ? Will their supporters be welcomed with open arms?:D

flyzede 3rd Dec 2010 08:49

Hajj

Mutt: Very good point! How will they manage to serve both the World Cup and Hajj... Does Hajj also takes place in June and July?

fliion 3rd Dec 2010 09:05

This is an absolute victory for Dubai and Emirates...

Just watch the packages that will be put together for the roaving Barmy Armies of intl fans...I can see it now..."Two weeks in Dubai on the beaches and in the pubs and nightclubs...enjoy a 50 minute full service transfer on an EK A380 to Doha then back to Dubai that night for celebrations"....and at what cost will this bonanza come to Dubai...zero, zilch..free.

No one wants to visit Doha...saying otherwise is like putting lipstick on a pig...

still a pig.

f

Uncle Wiggily 3rd Dec 2010 11:00

Perhaps we are assuming that people will flock to Doha to see the World Cup. I predict this will be the least attended World Cup in history. Who cares if they have a super air conditioned stadium on yet another man-made island in the region(btw...isn't the man-made island phase over yet?).

Why would you spend money to a crap destination when you can watch it from the comfort of your home on a nice flat-screen?

I like how Qatar said they will dismantle the stadiums and wrap them up with a nice little bow and deliver them to under developed nations. These are the same people who beat their housekeepers and pay the locals 2 Euros a day to labour in 50C heat. Why on earth would they want to incur an extra expense of dismantling a stadium and shipping it to a place like Sierra Leone? Oh, that's just what Sierra Leone needs is a friggin' football pitch, forget about clean running water, basic electricity and that stuff called food. Trust me, they will not follow through on their humanitarian pledge of donating their stadiums. C'mon...seriously. Obviously, FIFA has no idea what the word "contract" means in the Arab psyche. This will be ugly.

CuitoCuanavale 3rd Dec 2010 11:48

In geopolitical terms, Qatar being awarded the 2022 bid is of great significance to the Middle East as a region.

The Qatar 2022 Bid Committee are not, as some detractors would insist, a bunch of short-sighted, uneducated fools. They are highly educated, motivated people, who identified an opportunity and pursued the end-goal with fervor, drawing on their own aptitude and knowledge. They also surrounded themselves with like minded professionals to achieve a successful end goal. This is without doubt, as any CEO will advise you, the most assured route to progress and success. If, as some would suggest, there was an impropriety, it will surely be exposed, primarily because FIFA has had 106 years to promulgate itself into a professional body and because of its stature in representing the most popular sport on earth.

2022 is still 12 yrs away, in an organization the size of FIFA, trying to suppress any untoward activity, this will be at best, most uncomfortable for that long and in all probability not worth any so-called ‘financial reward’, and at worst, impossible.

If you had actually seen the Qatar 2022 Bid Document (available on-line, as are all bid countries documents), you really should not be surprised at all.

If Israel qualifies, I am certain they will be allowed to compete as sportsmen and if they won, would be respected as victors. Again, do you honestly believe that the Qatar 2022 bid committee didn’t take this into consideration already?

Just caught England Bid Committee 2018 CEO Andy Anson on Sky News, calling for ‘open and transparent voting’ following their loss to Russia for the 2018 bid. This I believe will reverberate unfavourably within FIFA and ultimately paint Mr. Anson in a most unflattering light.

Even if, as he intimates, there was some level of discord which culminated in their total of 2 votes, his ‘open and transparent’ statement is nothing short of an unforgivable gaff. Mr. Anson is in short, stating that Bid Committee’s as a whole, or at minimum, the executive management of that committee should be able to have access to see who voted for who and why.

I wonder if Mr. Anson realizes he just ventured quite cavalierly into the arms of collectivism, pluralism and totalitarianism…in short fascism. What he suggested is the etymology of Solarian Syndicalists (the precursor to fascism), that being the belief that all liberal democracy should be destroyed.

The very definition of voting is based on personal choice, imbued from access to knowledge and being educated on certain issues…..to have to face what would be tantamount to an inquiry because of your vote, would result in Soccer (Football) itself suffering and ultimately remove the high level of service that results from competition and voting……..i.e………an anti-Marxism form of socialism…..that being fascism. For a man of Mr. Ansons standing…..a rather huge gaff.

Tower Ranger 3rd Dec 2010 12:50

Apparently McDonalds have already started cashing in on 2022 destination by offering a Qatar Pound Burger, with Flies and a Sheik!

Uncle Wiggily 3rd Dec 2010 12:51

CuitoCuanavale: Woooo slow down there Shakespeare! Remember Qatar did not win the 2022 World Cup, they bought the 2022 World Cup. If you disagree, then tell me how they could be flagged as "High Risk" during the voting and then win? What is the point of doing assessments of nations if the vote is already decided? I'm sure Sepp Blatter and his henchmen miracously purchased major stakes in construction firms in the region. Excuse me while I go vomit.

McGreaser 3rd Dec 2010 12:53

Football is a global sport and also a business. It's good that Russia and Qatar got the rights to host the tournament. Because they have the $$$ to build the required infra-structure. It's a coup for the Mid East, obviously Dubai might benefit more from it than anybody else in the region for obvious reasons. (ie they are ahead of the game as far as tourism is concerned). I think Sepp Blatter has got it spot on by having the WC shared equally amongst all continents. Even if it took some arm twisting to sway the vote. And in the money driven enviroment we live in now,

MONEY DOESN'T BUY YOU EVERYTHING ......BUT IT'S A DAMN GOOD DOWN PAYMENT FOR ANYTHING YOU WANT IN LIFE !

The argument that the ME is driven by "slave labour" is true to a certain extent, and cannot be ignored. Also needs to be addressed viz-a-viz the poor workers who will make the WC a success. But how easily people forget that most developed countries Aussies, Brits, Americans, Belgians, Dutch (all who lost the right to host the WC) also built their economies based on exploitation of other nations/tribes.

If you study history the Aussies, Brits, Americans, Belgians, Dutch, also meted out barbaric, sadistic, inhuman conditions to build their now robust economies. So if you live in a glass house, don't throw stones:=

Mabrook to Russia and Qatar:D, inshallah will be alive and/or in the sandpit by then to enjoy the spectacle.:O

QR UNITED 2009 3rd Dec 2010 12:59

Who will attend this

AAB is terminating in a rate of 500 people per year ,imagine how many people will be and was terminated till 2022 ?

Someone will make Qatar reputation so bad till then that i am not really sure who will attend this fifi thing .

Uncle Wiggily 3rd Dec 2010 13:05

But how easily people forget that most developed countries Aussies, Brits, Americans, Belgians, Dutch (all who lost the right to host the WC) also built their economies based on exploitation of other nations/tribes.

It was only a matter of time until this little gem of information was released. You have to be joking, right? Are you seriosly trying to make a connection between Christopher Columbus and the Qatari managed construction firms? :ugh:

auh_to_auh 3rd Dec 2010 13:07

A country that has never qualified for the world cup will be staging it. What can we expect from the local team? Here is a warm up.
YouTube - 2010 asian games quarterfinal uzbekistan vs qatar- WORST GOAL MISS EVER !!!

Gutter Airways 3rd Dec 2010 13:21

As a football/soccer fan, the availability of booze and the accomodation of partially naked South American women is always a good basis upon which to judge the potential success of a World Cup, as clearly that's what football/soccer is about, right? Right?...

Sepp Blatter said it himself, they want to spread football across the globe, with that regard, they chose the two best candidates.

I wish Russia and Qatar both well, and I hope it brings forth a change for the better to both countries.
