Oman Air Pilot Recruitment

Hi !

Does anyone know if Oman Air are recruiting Captains on the B737NG, what the requirements are, the package deal, company expansion plans & last but not least who do you need to send your CV to for a job?

I have heard they are a good outfit to work for and Muscat is a nice city.

Info OmanAir

Hi guys,

I'm fo on the 737 with Oman Air since a couple of months. Salaries went up recently and gave us a pretty nice contract in fact.

As an fo, basic salary is now 2600 RO. A normal month with around 70 flight hours gives us more or less 400 RO flight pay. This amount can go up to around 700 RO for a well filled month. They give us an additional 350 RO to help to pay a house rent and 40 RO for elec and water. They don't have a retirement program but there is an illness insurance and free medicines and doctor visits for you, your partner and kids. Also a part of the schooling is paid for. No loss of licence at the moment but I've heard they pay 50% of it if you organise it yourself.
ID90 on 28 companies (Emirates, Etihad, KLM, Air France, Gulf Air, ...)

For cpt I think basic salary is now 3600 RO and housing 590 RO. All the rest is same.

The Omani Rial is linked to the $ at a fixed rate of 1 RO = 2,59 $

Oman Air bought 6 A330's and 3 additional on a leasing base. Delivery starts in 2009. 5 B787's were bought as well and were scheduled for delivery in 2012 but latest rumours (not confirmed) talk about delivery in 2010 already. So fleet will be more than doubled in a few years.

What the ATR concerns, I don't think they hire new pilots for them as they will be fased out. They want to replace them with small jetplanes like CRJ's.

Muscat is very nice living indeed. It's very quite, people are nice and nature is beautiful.

I hope this info helps a bit.

Greetz,

Seb

Hi realsebas

Is 350 RO is enough to rent in Muscat?

How much will it cost to rent 2/3 bedrooms apartment in Muscat, in a nice area?

Thanks

TOGA737

realsebas 22nd Mar 2008 15:34

Hi Toga,

No, for 350 RO you can only find a small appartment. Muscat is becoming very expensive for housing. There is a very big availability problem so prices rise higher and higher.
It depends what you're looking for. I'm in an area close to the airport but further away from all the activities. I pay 450 RO but for this amount I have a very nice villa of 250 mē. If you want to stay in one of the favourite expat area's like MSQ you find for the same money a small studio but you have everything (except airport!) close by.

Seb

Oman Air Pilot Recruitment

Dear realsebas,

any info about Captain salary?? how much time takes you from you signed the offer letter untill you come to Muscat??? and how long is your training till you get realeased.

you won't get transportation to/from airport, how is the public transportation in Muscat?? is buying a car expensive/difficult??

realsebas 24th Mar 2008 08:35

more info

Hi everyone,

Speedtwoten, I gave cpt salary already earlier. Some 7 posts ahead.
After your sim it goes quite fast in fact to come to Muscat. Basically the delaying factor is your visa. OmanAir takes care of this but it takes time. For me it took a month from simride till joining date. When you arrive in Muscat you have around a month of groundschool and then 4 simsessions. After that a couple of linetraining sectors depending on your experience and then you're inserted in the roster. You get full salary as soon as you join the company. They give you an advance the day you arrive.
Before you've found your own house your staying in a hotel. From there you have a crewbus picking you up for all "activities". In theory. It's better to rent a car and to buy one asap. Renting prices are 160 RO/month for a nice sedan. New cars are VERY cheap! American and Asian cars are less than half price of the price in western Europe. A toyota Land Cruiser Prado with the most powerfull engine and full option cost around 17000 RO. If you're a good negotiator you can even get less. Mitsubishi Pajero with most powerfull engine and full option is 13500 RO. European cars are more expensive. Still cheaper then in Europe but the differences is way less.
There is a kind of public transportation which is by means of a taxi loading up as much pax as possible and picking them up and dropping of on the motorway itself. Pretty dangerous and not very pleasant to sit between 8 other people in the back of a small car. :)
There are some busses but I never tried them. No trains, no metro, and no camel rides to the airport, sorry... :)

Falcon, Basic salary I gave is for new joiners. More years in the company gives you more money but I don't know how much. I think I've heard somewhere 50 RO more for each year in the company but I've never seen this on paper and I never looked for it, sorry.

B-737, Normally you need something like 750 hours total and some hours on the 737 but you can always try if you have less. Sometimes they make an exception.

Greetz,

Seb

B767 Position

Last week I saw Oman Air B767 parked at BKK new aiport. I wonder if they recuit an FO B767 or not.

NGFellow 22nd Apr 2008 05:47

If anyone has information as to how to apply to Oman Air kindly post or PM me. I got the salary details which seem quite good, but wanted to get some additional information regarding the employment process for Capts who are current/qualified on the NG. Specific Areas of questions.

1. Interview process and time line to get on line if current/qualified.

2. Family Housing terms and conditions.

3. Roster/leave terms. How many hours do you fly a month?

4. Schooling allowance and schools available (We have a 5 year old).

5. General working conditions.

The website does not show any vacancies for pilots.

Thanks

Heard Oman air management is in Bahrain? A Gulf Air Tie up?

kotakota 12th May 2008 07:41

Would not think so , after all , they have only just severed ties with GA , and have ordered their own fleet of long-haul hulls , and short -haul fleet expanding every month.
Either a chat about code-shares on the Muscat - Bahrian route or maybe even a roadshow to try and entice the Omani crew home to crew said orders . Both airlines have had recent payrises , probably because of that precise reason. Something has to give !

flycold 13th May 2008 10:38

how about consecutive leave in Oman Air?

I mean payed leave.

Thanks!:ok:

oman visa

does anyone know how long take oman work permit?

drnorrie 5th Jun 2008 09:09

Mine took a week, processed by an automotive company as that's where I work just now. (my flying is PPL only).

Upon arrival my residence card, driving license, bank accounts etc took about 3 days. Compared to Bahrain, and Kuwait it was a hassle free experience.

skygod 5th Jun 2008 18:28

47q 28th Jun 2008 15:59

Sad but true, no management left to handle it.

fractional 28th Jun 2008 16:31

Typical stuff for this area. No grand objective and practical plan. We have seen it everywhere in the Gulf since 94. EK, here in DXB, may have been the exception to the rule despite starting 8 years earlier where the area was still quiet. The recent creation of Fly Dubai will not affect anything since the infra-structure exists.
To start, well in this case restart, something like this, they must have installed a management team separate from a day-to-day business in order to plan the expansion and trickle it in. They didn't and it will be a long lived mistake despite all the good publicity they will throw to the media and public.
