Ok, I pull back. There is nothing wrong with asking T&c 's. I just want to stress the fact, that if you apply for a B737 right seat, the people outside waiting in the queue at HR dept.,, are standing in rows of six. That is the reality I am referring to. But good job hunting anyway..

airtractor 10th Apr 2013 22:58

Good point,

Regardless of your experience and the expansion, expect 5-7 years before seeing the left seat...

Oman higher ups

Good day all, can anyone please say who is the chief pilot or director of flight operations at Oman Air, and if so, a contact for them please?
Thank you

Why not try looking on-line for the top-dogs etc.? Also, you would find nowhere for $350 in Oman these days! Anyway, good luck. It is a great country.:ok:

Thank you Bill

Hi all,
Just wondering about the interview stage. I have been contacted my an agent on behalf of Oman Air that have invited me to go to Istanbul in a couple of weeks.
I wanted to know if this is their normal practice and if anyone had Info on how to prepare as all i have been given is a date.
would be most grateful of a response before I buy tickets!
Feel free to PM if preferred

Hiring?

Hi,

I was wondering if Oman Air is hiring at all, and if they are on which equipment.

I worked in the ME for 3 years as a corporate pilot, I have been back flying for an Airline in the States on a E175 since last year, but I'm struggling with the horrible pay I get here. I wouldn't mind going back to the ME, this time flying for an Airline. I know they have few E-175, if they need pilots, I'm available!:O

Thanks!

Hi Ironbird,

I have a friend at Oman Air and was told they are apparently receiving an order of 6 737NG next year and will be requiring crew. Oman government has instructed Oman Air to localise their work force so they have a cadet program in place but don't vet their new cadets properly resulting in a high failure rate. All new cadets are Omani and a majority of them don't make it through to line F/Os. With exception to a few, those that do make it through wouldn't make it at other airlines without extensive additional training (spoon feeding). Because of improper screening for local cadets, Oman Air HR department has no choice but to hire experienced expat F/Os as a cover up. The HR department in Oman Air has the final say on which pilots get hired unlike most airlines where Flights Ops has the final say.
Command opportunities for F/Os are slim too due to Localising pilot work force. Current practice is Command interviews are delayed until local F/O meets command upgrade requirements to bypass less senior expat F/O that already meets upgrade requirements. Smart way for legal upgrade bypass. I hear some expat F/Os have been waiting 6 years and still no interview dates set.
Beware if you do choose to go for the interview. Some people or agencies claim they can guarantee you a job with Oman Air for a fee of 1 months salary. Suspicion someone in HR has a little something happening on the side to cashin on desperate job seekers:=
Also just heard from my friend there that everyone is pissed off with their CEO because he's being steamrolled by the chairman of the Airline to increase their staff travel fares. This is being done as a penalty for the Chairman's son not getting a seat on a flight which he checkin late for resulting in his seat being given to another staff.:ugh:This should give you an idea of how the airline is managed/operated and what to expect if you get the job.

First year Cpt. Is about $9000+ F.O. Pay. Is about $7000
duty time ( $640 in a relaxing month, $1800 in a hectic month)+
Housing allowance: $1800 ( enough to find a nice place to live) for F.O. $1500.
You also get 2 blocks of 23 days vacations a year and 1 annual leave ticket for you and your immediate family)
You also get ID90 and iD 50 tickets with the major airlines which has just gone up. The company excuse is that the prices weren't reviewed for the last 3 years and now they have increase to match other airlines. For me at this moment is cheaper going home in Ethihad or Qatar than Oman Air. The pilot committee is negotiating this including other terms of the contract although I don't have too much faith on them.
The contract comes with free medical and dental insurance with 0 down but only covers Oman and countries were we fly too and at those countries in certain hospitals. If you want to have surgery somewhere else you will have to negotiate with the insurance. ( by the way, doctors in Oman are clueless, so anything serious you have to go outside of the country)
School fees for expats are very expensive! Company pays about 70% of tuition (I think) but you still have to pay a considerable amount for your kids.
Upgrade to captain takes a long time. It follows seniority. The last upgrades have been in the company for a bit over 5 years. This is do to the company continue lack of planning and continue hiring direct entry captains to cover holes. Fleet transfer two A330 is much less. At this moment seems that the company is changing their ways and giving importance to upgrading. Upgrades and fleet transfers has been announced due to the increase in fleet size in 2014 and onwards. It seems they are finally planning ahead the upgrades and organizing... We'll have to wait a see what happens.
The country and Oman Air are trying to Omanize. It's a lose battle they have and they are trying to win it. They were averaging about 8 cadets a year and now they are trying to increase to 12. It seems they have a high rate of failure so that's for the difficulty of increasing the numbers...
New cadets that i have flown with are sharp and adequate for the job.
The company it's about two start a big fleet expansion (big in Oman Air terms not in Middle East terms :) ) with the addition of 6 737-800's, and 3 A330-300's.
Also in 2015 they have orders for 5 737-900's and 6 Boeing 787's.
737 fleet has the toughest schedule of all, although it seems that conditions have improved in the last year. A330 fleet, relaxed life but be ready to spend 15 days a month away from your family. At this moment no direct entry into the 330 only upgrades.
