Dubai to have a new airline company
 

Dubai, March 18th, 2008 (WAM) -- Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has instructed - in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai - the competent authorities to set up a new airline company to cater for the growing passenger traffic from and to the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed envisages the new aviation company as a bridge for love and interaction between the UAE and other sisterly and friendly countries. While setting fares structure, the company will be taking the financial and living conditions of passengers into consideration. HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Head of Dubai Civil AviationDubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Emirates Group, said: Sheikh Mohammed's instruction will be put in place with immediate effect. ''Services will be of low cost economically out of Sheikh Mohammed's sincere keenness to ease burden of living conditions of passengers and enable them to reunite with their families and relatives at home, ''Sheikh Ahmed added. Sheikh Mohammed named Ghaith Saeed Al Ghaith as CEO of the new airline company. Sheikh Ahmed said the new company, which will operate under the umbrella of the Emirates Group, will be an integral part of the group, and enjoying the same advantages like the other group members.

It seems that the profitable Jazeerah plan to set up its base in Dubai is accelerating decisions around...
Emirates is already based on a low-cost business plan, many can testify... Now a low-cost with low-cost prestations will be even more profitable to the group, who had been thinking of it for some time...
No wonder where another option for 50 A380 in the pipe comes from, they have the cashflow now, couldn't use it in ridiculous football marketing and Etihad took Ferrari. JXB is on its way, so... let' s "optimize" again our 6 billions $ brand value and set up another company..!

Dubai's ruler orders creation of Emirates Group budget carrier

Dubai’s ruler has ordered the establishment of a budget carrier for the emirate to meet demands of increased passenger traffic to the United Arab Emirates.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum says the airline will be aimed at lower-income passengers.

It will be part of the Emirates Group whose main carrier, Emirates, is based at Dubai International Airport. Al Maktoum’s order states that the carrier will “enjoy the same privileges” under the group.

He has named Ghaith Saeed Al Ghaith as the new carrier’s chief executive. The airline’s name has yet to be disclosed.

Creation of a new budget operator could place pressure on Sharjah-based Air Arabia – the UAE’s first low-fare carrier – as well as Jazeera Airways, which has operations out of Dubai.

Al Maktoum’s decision follows the introduction of UAE scheduled charter services by Saudi Arabian budget carriers NAS Air and Sama.

P.S. Perhaps Ghaith Al Ghaith will take AAR along?

Guys....They are talking about single isle equipment.

I would think it has to be linked to the massive A320 order this new Duabi leasing company has placed last november during the airshow.

The success of Air Arabia and Jazeera shows that Emirates cannot afford to ignore the market.

If it does ignore the market then all those who are opposing the move because it might affect their T's and C's will find their T's and C's will be terminally affected as the main airline downsizes out of the markets within 90-120 minutes flying time.

Correct, surely not: airlines in the Gulf now have to make choices: in the regional market for the transport of labour, price is the driver - the airline with the lowest fare from A to B gets the business irrespective of quality of service. However, for the transit business (Europe to Australasia, Europe to the Far East and Europe to South Africa), the quality of the service offered IS important, with cost secondary to a great extent.

EK is probably wise to think of setting up a lo-co regional option to tap a particular market segment. Emirates Express, anyone?

Dubai: The new budget airline announced by the Dubai Government will base its operations at the new Al Maktoum International Airport, a top official told Gulf News on Wednesday.

"We expect to start the airline within a year's time from the Jebel Ali airport," Ghaith Al Ghaith, the airline's new chief executive said in an exclusive interview.

"It will be a new company, separate from the Emirates Group. However, Emirates will help to set up the airline. Its operations will be based in the low-cost terminal of the Al Maktoum International Airport in Jebel Ali."

Ghaith could not give any indication of the airline's capital requirements.

"It's too early for us. However, you could be sure that whatever capital requirements we have, the government of Dubai is there to back us up. So, money is not an issue," he said.

Al Ghaith said it was too early for him to offer any details on the airline’s fare structure. "You'll come to know in due course," he said.

Al Ghaith said preliminary work on setting up the office would be done from his current office at the Emirates headquarters.

"I'm still with the Emirates Group. However, my focus will gradually shift in setting up of the new airline," he said.

It'll be interesting to note the pay scale they will be offering for the flight deck crews of the new lo-co.... would it be at par with Emirates?
