They had been hiring some Captains onto the 787 who were coming from 737.... not sure if still available as the deliveries are quite slow for awhile.
They do not hire 777 Captains with only 737 as far as I know.

Are cats allowed in company accommodation?
I will also need a housekeeper to look after him when I'm on trips - whats the best plan here - can you share housekeepers or do you have to sponsor your very own one?

Thanks

Hello everyone. I'm an A320 f/o with 1500 tt and 1140 hrs. on type. Left my company with my latest flight being on December, 2015.

I went to QR screnings, yet failed in the interview on June. After coming back, renewed my CPL, privately on the same month. Now planning to apply again on this December.

During the interview, which was right after the theoretical test, i was only asked typical HR questions about my short flying career. Not a single technical one question has been asked. Some of them was like "was there an important event which you are particularly proud of", "have you ever had an emergency", "have you ever convinced your captain that changed his decision/plan during flight" "has anyone changed yours", "what kind of contribution do you think you have done to your previous company" and "have you ever had an argument during flight".

For most of these questions, my answer was no. Yet, they insisted that i must have had, for example, a moment that i changed my captain's mind some way. As i tried to keep honest, they kept insisting almost to force me to make up stories.

I also had open criticism in two points at the beginning of the interview: not wearing a tie, which i explained that i was already in business attire, but considering the muslim cultural background of the country, preferred not to wear a tie just the follow the tradition of many arabic businessmen not to wear ties. Also added that i normally wear it during business and did not mean any disrespect. Both three interviewers were from spanish-speaking countries.

The second one was that there was too many corrections in my logbook. The last ones belonged to 6-7 months before my last flights; after them, all entries were neatly written.

Ofcourse, they did not say anything about the reason for failing me. I just wanted to share these both to shed some light on anyone who's gonna apply and to give some background for my questions, which i will finally manage to ask 8)

1) Since i'm still not flying, in my next application they will have the same exact background, except for my licence renewal. How would you think making any difference in their attitude possible? I would appreciate any kind of advices on this.

2) A fellow pilot of mine is considering to buy an interview prep package from latestpilotjobs.com. Assuming he has passed the online psychometric tests do you think it would still be helpful, specifically for QR.

Sorry for the long post. I wish success and safety for everyone...

casablanca 17th Oct 2016 06:53

Like stated above...wear a tie! The Amir and the CEO all wear business suits and ties when I see them on tv, so when showing up at a large international company for interview best to not stand out as only one without a tie.
You don't have much experience but look over your logbooks and maybe there are small or less dramatic stories, but am sure you can find some situations that satisfy question.
They are trying to know you in 20 minutes, how you make decisions, how you deal with others, deal with conflict, can you be assertive ? Probably have some stories to tell, to show these qualities maybe even flying with a flight instructor in 172?
I don't know what's in latestpilotjobs or the price but have heard some say it was worth it.

Much appreciated!

For the next interview, try practicing those types of questions with someone you know beforehand. Preferably someone who is familiar with these types of interviews and questions. It will help more than you think.

A handy format/tool to use is "STAR".
Situation, Task, Action, Result.

So when you tell the story, try and be clear about each of those points and it will also keep what you tell them relevant and prevent you from rambling on about stuff that doesn't matter. But be sure to use scenarios that paint you in a favourable light - you're trying to sell your skills to them after all!

Good luck.

Insurance - maternity

Hey guys,

I have a question concerning the health insurance at QR. If I remember correctly from the presentation given during the road show, maternity is not covered by Qatar Airways. So, is there any additional insurance available or do you have to pay for maternity/pregnancy which would rather be very expensive.

Thanks for your response.

lfbb 19th Oct 2016 16:03

You are right, until the baby is born nothing related to maternity is covered by the private insurance provided by QR. People use Qatar public health system and no complains so far....
Regards.

CATI 19th Oct 2016 16:49

Thanks. I thought so. As long as it covered by public care, seems to be okay.

Negative!!
The requirements do not say ANYTHING regarding Seniority!.
Once you fill all requirements(Years in QR, TT Hours and Type Hours and other minir details), you are eligible for upgrade!
I am flying with several senior guys that has been bypassed due lack of hours, and a recent adjust on Turboprop hours make it worse!
There is no seniority list for upgrade!. Tick all the requirement boxes and go

Hi everyone. I have a question for QR pilots - I've just been to the selection, and was impressed by QR. Would you please give me a bit of info about cost of living in Doha? I've googled, and its a bit generic. I'd like to know what a single guy could expect to pay monthly for a 2-bed apartment, price of a 4 yr old Landcruiser, and monthly outgoings...not planning to go clubbing but the odd pub lunch etc , socialize at home and go to the desert a bit. Maybe diving trips.

How much covers rent, car insurance/fuel, food, utilities, internet/phone, gym, and the odd pint? I've been told $3k a month should be ok, is this accurate?

Where would be a good place to live? I visited the Pearl when I was there, went to Westbay Beach but it was dark so didn't see much. Also, what are your thoughts about buying a property in Doha?

Thanks in advance!

You can check most of this information doing a research on www.qatarliving.com where you van found classifieds, about almost everything from car, rental car, real estate, cleaning services, everything..
"Timeout Doha" magazine, you can google it, is a good source of social matters, restaurants prices, nightlife..

PPRuNeUser0192 21st Oct 2016 11:41

Hi Rogeriouzz,

You wrote that turbo prop hours were adjusted recently.
How are turbo prop hours factorized at QR? And how many hours on type are required to meet the upgrade requirements?

I'm an A320 FO in Europe with quite a lot of turbo prop time, so I'm quite interested to know.

Cheers:ok:

Upgrades

To be absolutely clear...

Upgrades are determined solely by Seniority.
If you meet the requirements, your name goes into the selection process.
If you don't meet the minimum requirements your name is bypassed, but automatically reconsidered during the next selection board.
A more senior bypassed candidate can still jump ahead of a less senior candidate depending on course dates.
And yes, there is a seniority list for upgrades. Just because it doesn't say it in the OMA doesn't exclude the application of internal management policies.

Continental-520 22nd Oct 2016 14:44

Exactly Airlifter.

Rogeriouzz, the way you put it makes it sound like anyone who joins with the hours requirements automatically gets their upgrade at 3 years service, which is presently not the case. If there were no eligible candidates senior to that person, then they would.

Hello QR guys,
I have a question regarding settling in allowance. Does QR provide any advance amount for your furniture in order to move in to the country?
Thanx

Daniel H 25th Oct 2016 20:06

Hi, I'm FO and currently flying A380 ...and I'm thinking of applying QR.. so would you please say about average flight time & salary of A380 there..?
Or... is it better for me to apply just "Type Rated F/O Airbus" than A380..?

Thanks in advance.

FoxForce44 26th Oct 2016 18:49

It will be the same thing any option on its website....They will choose what their operational requirements dictates at the time of your joining.

how long will it take if I apply, let's say, today until you will be invited for the assessment in Doha? What's the rough timeline for the application process?

Thanks

Hello guys.. According to "QR7735 - Type Rated Captain Boeing" vacancy advertisement at QA careers page, I understand that B737NG pilots having 2000h PIC, without 787/777 type rating may apply this advertisement. Previously I didn't realize, B737NG was in the list. Do I miss something?

"Be type rated and current on the B777/B787 with minimum of 500 hours in command on type, or on B767/B757/B737NG/B747-400/800 with a minimum of 2000 hours in command on type."

casablanca 2nd Nov 2016 02:55

I know they hired some 737 guys for DEC on 787....unless it changed they wanted wide body experience for 777.

last month they added 737 back to the admitted types for non-rated candidates.

Vailidity IR rating

Hi,

I read in some posts from 2015 that you need to have a licence/IR rating to be valid for six months when joining QR. Does this rule still apply?
Currently, my licence is renewed every 12 months for a period of 12 months, which theoretically reduces the time frame to join to 6 months per year if you always need a licence that is still valid for six months.

Thanks

Hi All,

Just passed the PSA test, I'd recommend assessmentday as training website as their database is similar to the questions found on the real thing. Latestpilotjobs database comprises only around 50 questions..

Upgrade

Hi guys,

Does anybody knows how upgrading to commander works on 330 fleet?

If you are flying for 330 as f/o, when you meet the all requirements are u going to upgrade as a commander on 330 fleet?

And are they using 330 and 350 as mix fleet or separated.

Thank you.

ricbab 14th Nov 2016 13:19

hi Tinel, how was the PSA test? was it hard to pass and which type of questions were there? thanks

Airbus DEC

Hi all, please could someone update on how life is on the 320 these days for someone joining as DEC..how is the roster, how many hours a month?

After how long does it take to be transferred to a wide body (which is my goal).

Just trying to get as updated info as possible, thanks for your help.

Training Bond..

In all your rush to 'fly big iron' at any cost, YOU ARE aware that THERE IS a hefty training bond associated with this, aren't you? And, internal fleet changes or migrations also subject you to the same tythe. There are risks and there is never 'something for nothing'. So, when calculating your pay to buy/lease that fancy SUV or hot European set of wheels, you might want to see what is left over.

No more 6 months ratings validity to new joiners

A guy who made the assessment this week said that the "6-month rule" of ratings validity has gone for good.

Rating just need to be valid at the date of join.

CATI 17th Nov 2016 06:17

Good to hear that. Thanks for the information.
