bmi to Doha?
In a report in yesterday's Qatar Penninsula, concerning a new ASA agreement between Qatar and the UK, I notice the following:
According to Hopkins, the UK has also designated another carrier, British Midland Airlines, to operate between Doha and London, within the specified number of flights that British airlines can offer

That's right newswatcher - bmi were awarded the rights to several ME destinations, including DOH and DXB.
My info is that they were considering DXB seriously, and that VS would be delighted to get a foothold in the region through a possible collaboration with bmi.
However, with DXB served directly 12 times daily from the UK, competition will be fierce.
DOH would make a more logical option, but there is very little traffic that actually stops in Doha. Most of it connects onwards via the hub and spoke theory that QR have. So, for bmi to take on QR would be difficult in my opinion, unless their relationship with GF is strengthened. GF, however, have a barely noticeable presence at Doha now.

A300Man,
I agree with you that Doha is more logical. They already have an interline and frequent flyer agreement with Qatar Airways and so they could always cooperate on the route. Qatar Airways wants 3 daily flights but only has rights for two on the other hand we have Bmi who have the rights a for a daily flight. They could both codeshare on each others' flights and QR will get their 3 daily flights and at the same time Bmi will have feed for their flights.
Another more important point is that Doha will be a hub for a certain "celestial grouping" next year or the one after at the latest. A european (non-Bmi) as well as two asian members of this "extraterrestrial coalition" are also eyeing Doha.

HF
I assume you are referring to LH, SQ and TG? Although OS and NG wouldn't surprise me either.
SK currently don't fly to the region at all. However, HF, you and I both know that there is a lot to do before QR is going to be ready to fit into any alliance.
However, with QR now having certain "individuals" on board (SV and BH), whose sole purpose is to gain the airline entry into a grouping, things may just happen!
But bmi are already code sharing more extensively with GF than they are with QR. Wouldn't GF's entry into the alliance create a bit of a threat?
