Pubs!!!
Can any of you please assist a long suffering Brit based in Jeddah!
I have the fortune to be going on a 3 day trip to DXB, BAH and AUH this w/e and am frankly sick of spending an evening stoking up my alcoholic hump in soul-less hotel bars! Can anyone please assist with some recommendations for decent pubs in any of these dests?
Cheers!

Gnz and Joe
Thanks again guys. Looks like I'll be stoked for a while, by the way like the Mexican wave icon.
Just to wind up today's entry for the forum - other than DXB rugby club can anyone recommend the best venue to watch England trounce the southern hemisphere teams (namely Wallabies and All Blacks - the Boks don't stand a chance) to hoist the world cup this autumn?
Shall ensure I have meetings in the Gulf for the crucial fixtures...

In BAH you could try Diggers (the Ozzy bar) - Can't remember the hotel it's attached to but if you go to the Gold Centre mall in Government Avenue, it's just down the side road that's immedately opposite.
No decent "proper British" beer, but the singer in the resident band has a bod to die for
I've been a regular visitor to BAH since I started the new job (the one which keps me too busy to post much on PPRuNe ) and for the last 6 months the island has been pretty dead in terms of attendance at night-spots. Hopefully it'll pick up a bit before late this month when I expect to be spending weeks there

As for Simguy's comment re the singer in the band, there is someone who has read where I am coming from!
Thanks to you all!

The singer's name is Anita and she used to be a dancer in clubs in Melbourne - my suspicion is that it was "exotic": dancing from the way she moves when singing [URL=http://www.superkatz.org[/URL]

Looked like a couple of them (Russians) in Hard Rock Cafe last weekend . . . .. .
As for BAH - I'll post a sitrep when I get there in about 10 days from now - damn - gotta spend a week or 2 away from RUH. Life's tough in The Gulf

For the record I ended up at Scarletts in DXB - OK, though notmuch of an atmosphere, apparently voted the best bar!
Sherlock in BAH was amusing though I wish I had time to check out anita at diggers
Went to Cyclone a while back, full of Russian, Chinese and Thai hookers, Sars too!
2 SARS bugs leave a pub, one says to the other God I could murder a chinese.....
Apologies for the joke and thanks for the suggestion!
And Sim Guy - at least someone has it worse than I, RUH!!!? Enjoy the freedom

Leave Diggers.....turn right....go around the left side of the Gold shops.....about two blocks along on the right side of the street...inside the hotel....nice place....for some odd reason the name escapes me now! Marines and sailor kind of place....skinned heads....cold beer....exotic shooter drinks....excellent bacon cheese burger....Russian tarts in the hotel.
Also Rick's country cooking......and the Mexican joint....great margeritas.....Rick's is the BAH home of the China Post 1, American Legion, General's Ward and Chennault Chapter, Shanghai, China (Operating in Exile).
BAH is a nice place!
