Hi!
Moving from the UK to Jeddah to work for at least two years and would like to know what is the going rate to rent a furnished or unfurnished one or two bedrooms Apartment or a Villa in or out of a compound.
Also any other kind of info on living there will help.
Thank you.

It really depends on if you are alone or bringing your family and how your company plans to pay for your accommodation.
Try these websites and you might get an idea of what’s available in middle class compounds.
www.redseahousing.com
www.sharbatlyvillage.com.sa
www.mura-bustan.com
Villas outside compounds are a lot cheaper, but lack security from religious police.
Jeddah can be a fun city, take loads of suntan lotion and your swimsuit!
Email me if you have any other specific questions.

Mutt,
I did have a life before QR!! (and after for that matter!)
I was working on a corp Bac 1-11 out of JED.
I was pre briefed in BEY by a Kiwi who gave me "a number" to call and every Thursday night...WAYHAY!!!
A lot of people moaned about Sharbatly, maybe cos it's older? But I had a great time there!

Newswatcher,
I believe that website is the creation of Ppruner Conky Jo, unfortunately she departed from the desert and Pprune around a year ago. Thanks for pointing it out. In answer to your question in R&N, two pax decided that they wanted to get off an aircraft just before pushback, the two Captains had a disagreement over the level of security checks required before the flight departed. Eventually they changed aircraft hence the 5 hours.
Taba,
Sharbatly was a party town, not sure what its like these days. I’m glad to hear that you had a life before and after QR.![Smilie](https://www.pprune.org/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Bluebirde2000,
Give me a day or two and I will ring some of the compounds for prices.

Fair comment...socially better that Doha or compared to Doha circa 1980's...yes Mutt, I have been to DOH several times prior to QR!! Ha Ha...What I liked about Sharbatly is that the villa was secluded and had it's own security gate. Good times...beats the freezing cold (-12) up here in the boonies!

Based on two bedroom furnished villas. Prices vary with the size/style/furniture selected.
Sharbatly - SAR 56,000 - 97,000
Arabian Homes Sierra - SAR100,000 - 135,000
Arabian Homes Andalus - SAR70,000 - SAR90,000
Lotus IV - SAR88,000
Andalusia - SAR 170,000 - 205,000 (3 Room)
That should give you on indication. There are cheaper places, but they lack the facilites provided by the larger compounds.
Good Luck.

Remember that Jeddah is located on the Red Sea with the 2nd best coral reef in the world. There are plenty of water sports located in enclosed beach resorts.
The city has countless restaurants and shopping malls, not to mention, ice skating, bowling, golf clubs, football clubs, rugby clubs and hopefully a microlight/skydiving club by the summer.
For the kids there is T-ball, softball, baseball, scouts and a whole range of school arranged activities.
Boredom is not an issue provided that you have a little bit of imagination, patience and a sense of humor.
Cheers

The US state department recently announced that it was permitting the repatriation of diplomatic families at government expense, this applied to a number of countries including Saudi Arabia.
As of this date and quoted from one of the US Consular Generals, “Nobody has taken the offer, all of the US diplomatic staff and their families are staying in Saudi”.
Actions speak louder than words…….
