The airline that trained me and fully invested in my 787 rating didn't bond me for it.

The airline that didn't, want a bond for it??

This indicates they suspect people may choose to leave after signing up.

CAA orals and medicals after joining is not cool.

The BUPA and child school allowance are probably the biggest things going here. Accommodation in Saudi is extremely expensive and that will eat at the salary to the point there won't be a significant difference to home.

Why such a punishing regime for FOs? Tests, reduced allowances etc etc seems punitive. Last time I checked, transportation didn't cost an FO any less than a captain!

They advertise in the west but the T&Cs will solely attract the usual suspects of the cesspit.

The deep pockets are no longer there, PIF announced a few months ago that they are “free” to seek their own funding.

Exactly the same situation i am in.
I guess it is all war related.
Boeing pilots are being called afaik.
Operators in the region are calling people for screenings, so i guess they will start also for their potential Airbus fleet.

A few years ago now …

but I got invited to the ME for interviews etc for an ab-initio cadet programme and had accommodation / flights / chauffeur - even entertainment paid for.

Not a great advert.

I think the problem is that there are not really any flights of their own to put candidates on so it would cost. It would seem sensible to me to carry out interviews and sim tests combined in the various 'preferred candidate' countries.

You guys know if the 20k provided is good enough to get a decent place to stay in Riyadh for a family with kid? I heard the houses/villas are super expensive over there...

Like in many places, they do because they can. If they didn't have enough applicants and interest they would've had to up the T&Cs and start treating people better. Likely to happen? No.
