Canadians at EK
My fellow great white north friends....
I am trying to focus my career goals, and Emirates is one of the few airlines I am aiming for. I have flown on them and was impressed to say the least. I have also lived in a Muslim country and know the deal on that.
I am 27 and have been flying commercially for 3 years. With CX in turmoil, I am looking at EK as by far the best choice for a guy to target.
A few questions if I may....
If you had the choice of joining Air Canada at age 30 or so, or a shot a EK in the same time frame, what would you do?
How long do you see yourself over there and what sort of money do you anticipate returning to Canada with when you are done?
How do you/ family enjoy living in Dubai ?(I don't have one yet)
How much do you like Emirates and what is the growth potential in the next 10-20 years???
I appreciate all replies and would be happy to hear from gents from all nations. I just figured the Canadian boys would be able to relate to me the best....
Cheers....

RUN, RUN, I say....To Air Canada..
EK is not bad at all but if you think that coming to the sandbox is better, you are wrong.
Your question was EK or AC......Go to AC.
Trust me..

The Sandbox or Air Canada ?
I worked (contract ) for Saudia back in 1990 for one year and lived in Jeddah. I know that's not the same as Dubai but I flew to many of the cities in and around the "sandbox". With that said, In 1991 another contract took us to Nairobi, Kenya and the day we arrived there we hugged each other, cryed a little ( in joy of coarse) and got down and Kissed the ground, then got plastered. Even though we were still operating flights into the "sandbox" during the War, liveing in Nairobi was like Heaven compared to Jeddah. I have no desire to ever return to the "sandbox" and would starve to death first. Some people I've met loved it over there. To each there own. I would certainly take Air Canada if it were me.

Well it so far seems like Air Canada 2, Emirates Nil. The problem I have with Canada is the taxes. With it all said and done you end up giving over 65% of your money back to the government in one form or another and that is hard to swallow. Air Canada is also into its creditors into the billions. I see Emirates as a healthy company with good growth potential and better chances at upgrades than that of AC. Your opinions are greaty appreciated.....Anyone else???

I used to work for Wardair Canada and then for a short time,Canadien airlines International.Being an engineer i met up with a few of my compatriots, who being here for a few years, rather enjoy it.
As for the flight crew,i met some guys i know from the old days and they (or most of them are still here).Having been here for some twelve(12)years now i have met some Canadians who tell me that with AC they will still be flying in the r/h seat for AC for 20 yrs on a B737 when one guy from the great white north of somewhere is now an A330 Captain.
And this was a few years ago.
Just to let you know that things arent all doom & gloom
