It all depends on what BA is labeling struck work. If we end up with a system where any airline can cover for a strike and there are no repercussions to such actions then we all lose.

You can thank Saudi, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt for this. Wouldn't have had all those spare planes if not for the blockade.

I am admittedly pretty ignorant in such things but can Qatar airways operate intra eureopean flights just like that?
If so why do flag carriers bother to maintain their own fleet?

They already fly their short haul Airbuses into many European cities and have crew suitable for working/basing in the EU/UK without the need for visas or permits. They are merely operating their aircraft and crew on behalf of BA. They carried BA flight numbers. Other than getting regulatory approval from the CAA in the UK (although what exactly that was for I don't know), I don't think there was much hassle involved.

Where are all the BA planes not being used right now? CWL for maintenance or parked up at various airports?

Except ACMI operators, any of which would have probably been only too pleased to offer their services, had Qatar had not stepped in.

There is money to be made out of crew striking.

Anyone celebrating this should be ashamed.

The Scab
by Jack London,(1876-1916)

After God had finished the rattlesnake, the toad, and the vampire, he had some awful substance left with which he made a scab.

A scab is a two-legged animal with a corkscrew soul, a water brain, a combination backbone of jelly and glue.

Where others have hearts, he carries a tumor of rotten principles.

When a scab comes down the street, men turn their backs and angels weep in heaven, and the devil shuts the gates of hell to keep him out.

No man (or woman) has a right to scab so long as there is a pool of water to drown his carcass in, or a rope long enough to hang his body with.

Judas was a gentleman compared with a scab. For betraying his master, he had character enough to hang himself. A scab has not.

Esau sold his birthright for a mess of pottage.

Judas sold his Savior for thirty pieces of silver.

Benedict Arnold sold his country for a promise of a commission in the British army.

The scab sells his birthright, country, his wife, his children and his fellowmen for an unfulfilled promise from his employer.

Esau was a traitor to himself; Judas was a traitor to his God; Benedict Arnold was a traitor to his country.

A scab is a traitor to his God, his country, his family and his class.

Author --- Jack London (1876-1916)

Just noticed it had been removed.

I was in a union most of my career, but this seems different than how it is done in USA.
Anyways I fail to see how Qr pilots would be branded scabs and not apply that title to the 99% of BA employees working as normal?

Not only that but during the last cabin crew industrial action, BA pilots themselves were willing to fly as cabin crew to ensure the airline kept going. The fallout of that is still being felt to this day.

This particular minority of cabin crew are extremely militant and I doubt that the BA pilots would have seen it as 'knifing your own crew members' This lot of CC are British Socialists at their worst

The delicious irony that shouldn't be lost here is that the mixed fleet crew that are striking are the very individuals wee willy recruited to break the back of the toxic Bassa mafia. I recall my missus coming home (ex Eurofleet and concorde etc) talking about people being threatened in the car park at braincrank etc etc.
