Management job at Qatar Airways in Doha
I am interviewing for a managerial job at Qatar Airways. There is quite a bit of negative commentary about them on various forums. Anyone here working for them at the moment? Do they provide housing for managers (i.e. staff other than crew members)? Do they provide multiple exit permits? What is the atmosphere/culture like in HO? People? Any first hand experiences would be much appreciated.
There are 2 people in HR whos sole job it is to handle dismissals of grade 10 and above. That should tell you all you need to know.
I know of 2 people who gave it a go, one lasted 2 months the other 6. There are examples of VPs and above who left in disgust within the first month of hire.
They do provide housing, not sure of the multiple exit permits. The fact that such a permit is necessary, should result in every single warning belll going off.

Whats the job? Department is very important as all the teams are very different and there are usually a majority race/culture in each department which sets the tone of the team.
Yes - all staff are offered housing or housing allowances.
All exit permits , sorry 'business leave notifications', are multiple now, but are valid for 3 days at a time. Only Crew and certain high level managers have permit multiple exit permits as far as I'm aware.

londoneasyjetboi, does this mean that you cant leave Qatar when you want to leave but instead you request and Qatar Airways chooses whether to grant you a 3 day window in which to leave?

Hi Casper, yes, this is correct. It used to be called an exit permit, but then to make it seem less harsh in a human rights discussion, they changed it to a 'business leave notification'. If QR rejects it, then there is a tribunal to go to where the company has to submit proof and evidence as to why you can't leave. I've not heard anyone getting rejected by the company thus far unless they were in some legal challenge with the company - but yes, in a nutshell, you have to have your employers permission to leave the country. This does not apply to spouses and children however. QR are pretty good, you apply for the permit at the same as your leave and you usually get it the day before you plan to exit. One benefit that no other company has is there is a desk manned 24/7 at the airport should you need one in an emergency, you can just stop there to apply and get immediate approval.
Its an odd restriction and one that I took some time to know if I can accept it but its just part of living here.

You say the spouse can exit the country on the pilot's visa independently. Does this also apply if she works in Qatar and has another employer? Who will then be responsible for issuing the exit permits?

From a pilot perspective this is one of the better jobs in the region.
From a management perspective: the company has only one manager. Everybody else is replaceable and will be replaced at will.
SMT member is spot on about the rest.
