Let's face it, this has nothing to do with Police or Customs at HQ, they don't care what you bring back and why would they? They may even charge duty on an item over a certain value so it wouldn't be in their interest to stop this...
This is just like us having to go back through HQ after a flight instead of going straight to T3 with the pax to catch an earlier flight, again blamed on the police saying we can't go through the airport in uniform etc.
They don't care after all it's an airport it would quite likely to have someone walking around in uniform!
This is just another "little internal" rule that's gradually chipping away at morale, well done!
It wouldn't surprise me if this came from service delivery!

Went through yesterday with my "non company" issue bags, asked the guys downstairs and the scanner guy upstairs, both gave a shrug and a smile. No problem, merely another mean spirited faux rule to keep the minions in line, maybe some upstairs don't like the fact that you can buy pork, wine, car parts at a rate that doesn't include the Habibi commission?

You can go straight to the terminal, I've done it with carry on luggage, and nobody batted an eyelid. Just carry a GD with you, (advice from the FDM, who confirmed it's OK).

@bok and blog, I frequently transit the terminal when trying to make a connection. GD in hand, but a change of clothes clearing customs.
Always cancel your transport, and beware the South Korean or Chinese grade 2 who will report you if they see you, best to just tell the FO etc.
I have a couple of other things I do that keeps me under the radar, all common sense stuff, but nothing I'd post on an Internet forum, been doing this for the entire time I've been here, never had a problem.

I never said that I didn't go straight to the terminal (have always done it during my annual summer commutes) I was just highlighting that this has nothing to do with Customs or Police as stated in the newsletter.
Same as the bag thing it won't affect me but it will affect many others who bend over to these unofficial "police and customs" rules...

OMA section 20.5.3.5
I know this is for positioning crew "If arriving on EK, crew 'shall' proceed to EGHQ with the operating crew. Does that mean operating crew shall go to HQ also?

So again, where is this written in a company document that requires compliance?
You guys are getting your shorts in a knot over an email that you are not required to read, it means as much as an email from that millionaire in Nigeria.

The fact remains that it has been written by some idiot on a company document. It might not be official but it does show their attitude towards us and that is telling.

More to the point Outlaw, if the missive does come from Dubai Customs and Police then that has nothing to do with the OM-A... If it's not from them then ops normal as I see it!

Soooooo,
They cleared that up, right???
Isn't it UAE Customs that we have to go through? Can't say I've ever seen a Dubai Police person in attendance?!?!
Move along, nothing to see here...

So now you can't even bring your own discrete black trolley bag for layovers instead you going to have to wait for your empty suitcase at the carousel adding even more time at work, I just love the way they've got a firm grip on the none essentials...it really is time to go!

No problem, as has been said before....it's packages.

As with most measures, someone took it too far and ruined it for all the others. I flew with a guy who took back 2 big bags full of food for his dog. Both 40L, ask the police guy for a trolley...

It's not packages which is the problem Monarch Man, I wish it was that clear. The fleet update email makes it clear that cabin bags like the ones CC use, is not allowed. I've seen so many crazy, childish rules being spanwed here since I joined but this one has got to top it. What's next?

Simple. Use your old roller board suitcase as your flight kit, put your essentials in it for your layover and a few flight items. Then attach a "computer bag" on top with...whatever. You have completely adhered to their interpretation. They don't mention size.
