It's all electronic and can be used at any time in the future to bully you, happened to a friend who had a big technical issue, tried everything to blame a systemic issue on him, in the end they told him he had been late for pick up 3 months previously. He asked them if that was the best they could manage, but show's the mindset

When you get in the car you should note when the driver CLICKS on his screen. That is when it stamps your pick up. Quite often they wait a while or wait for the second pickup.

The 'clicking on the screen' is that they bring up your details so they know they have the right person... has a nice picture of you. All cars are tracked automatically by GPS and it's all recorded so no need to stress about you being 'checked in'.

You must be lucky. Most of my standbys are 0200 so not many school runs then. As for your disappointment at not having the time to attend these events, that's what DAYS OFF are for. This is a duty after all. Better than an airport standby and why not do as others do and take your uniform along and get a taxi if need be or get the missus to drop you off? Even a quick call to the fleet crewing supervisor can help. Not difficult to work around these issues and hardly worth the rant if you ask me!

At least you get a ride to work, versus down the road where we have 75 min from the call to dress, prep, eat, get the bags down to the car, fight traffic at rush hour, off site parking lot, unload bags, wait for a shuttle, load bags into shuttle, wait for driver to deem he's ready, drive to HQ, unload bags, queue for check in. All that while crewing calls you every 10 minutes for an "update" because the flight is already "really late".
Yup i'd trade for an air conditioned volvo after 30 minutes

short flights long nights
Wow Harry you are lucky, most of your standbys start at 0200. Really? You must be lucky. I think Camel had a valid point. And from what I am hearing there are not many DAYS OFF to do the other things anymore.

I will Never drive myself or taxi to duty at EK. How many times have you showed up late to HQ due to traffic. Me, at least once a month. If I was taking a taxi I would have been in the chief pilots office on a day off explaining why I took a taxi.
Please oh please Harry, let me know how to bid days off on reserve so I can attend my children's sporting advents. That would be great!!
While most of your posts are well thought out, you frequently appear to either forget or not care about every other pilot at EK less fortunate than you. In a recent post you went on about how great Frankfurt overnights are and could not understand why people complain. I have not been to Europe in 3 years. Overnights? Pbbbbbttt. Maybe 3-4 every five months. Always Africa or India. Glad to hear your doing well though.

I'm sure there's a joke about having the hump but it's probably as old and tired as most of us. To be fair, if you decide not to drive that's your call. I guess it depends on just how desperate you really are to watch your kids weekly sports events. As for being late, not once in 14 years have I ever been late. I use the official report time as my benchmark, do you? Where are you coming in from, Al Ain?
You're obviously on the 330 if you've not had a Europe for 3 years. By November they'll all be gone and it will be the prime routes on the 380. 9 London's daily, 3 Manchester, MUC, CDG, FCO, BCN, CPH, FRA, AMS and the list goes on...... Maybe then you'll get some satisfaction in your rosters and lifestyle. I hope you do, sincerely.
Just trying to keep it real. My Frankfurt post was tongue in cheek. 30 euros for a girlfriend, really?

By late I mean all of the crew is already on the A/C, and I am not. I live in company accommodation, but lucky me, getting moved to one closer to the airport.
30 euros- I either figured you had low standards or that was the funny part of your post.
What you and some others fail to understand, (You can correct me if I am wrong.) Ek has been treating the 330/340 guys horribly for years, and yes it will be over soon. But this has been going on for YEARS Harry. We are all a bit past the tongue and cheek. Really. The fact that you constantly make light of our plight only proves your disconnect.
