30 mins from Standby call to Car outside.
I see the powers that be have decided that you now only have 30 mins from that phone call at 2 in the morning, to hoping into the car and off to the Sandpit castle.
I think they are going to be disappointed in my case. |
That's always been the case as far as I was aware.
|
Exactly how it's been for as long as I can remember. No change!
|
Nope, never in writing, to my knowledge, previously. Simple fact is you get the call, shower, eat etc. If it takes more than 30 minutes so be it. To be safe you may well have to eat. Depends on the time of day and the situation!
|
Never anything in writing as far as I'm aware.
But now in the OMA amendments that came today. |
I get in the car when I'm ready, no rush!
|
Been out of EK for a while now. Below is from the manual dated Jan 2015.
"Be ready to depart from his residence or hotel to the aerodrome within 30 minutes of receiving notification that he is required for a flight." |
Seriously.....is this the best **** you guys can come up with to whine about.
It's always been that way since my 15+ years here. |
At 2 in the morning, they're allowing you to rest as long as possible. That way they can extend your duty longer than if they called you 5 hours earlier when they probably knew about the trip.
|
Has been 30 mins for well over 10 years.
Run Forrest, RUN |
Complain about this and you'll end up sitting ready-reserve all night at HQ. It'll be ORD all over again,.. complain about the long bus ride downtown and 1 day layover, then you end up with 2 days at the airport. Be careful what you wish for.

Caynine
I totally agree!! |
Been the rule since the FOM days (manual that predates the OM-A). But lets not facts.......
|
In fact it pisses me off when they wake me to give me an hours notice.. 30 extra mins sleep is very valuable these days!
|
Been gone for some time as well, but recall clearly it was in the manual that the time was 30 minutes. Perhaps people should check the books before firing off a post on PPRune? So much shee-ite at EK to worry about, but this is a non-issue.
I love checking in every once in awhile to enjoy that good feeling once again of leaving EK. Never gets old. |
Totally agree with Caynine and nolimitholdem.
The oldest revision I can find is 7 but it was there before (since the FOM as previously stated) and has been in every revision since... |
From the EK FOM, Chap 4 Page 11 dated Aug 09 2003:
A crewmember rostered for standby duty shall, during the assigned period of standby, be ready to operate a flight at short notice should this be required. He shall: .Be ready to depart from his residence or hotel to the airport within 30 minutes of receiving notification that he is required for a flight And so on... In reality if I've needed more time crew scheduling have always made it available! |
The change in policy is subtle and only affects people who live outside of Dubai. You must be at the border pick up point within 30min, and not leaving your house in Ras Al Khaima 30min after the call.
|
IT does suck
No this really does suck, and should not be trivialized. You are under house arrest. Plain and simple. No school runs no kids sporting events. No anything. Your ass is home. When they say home reserve, they mean HOME reserve. You must be out the door 30 minutes from the phone call. For those that are doing reserve once a year its a hiccup but for those of us that get this 3X a year and one week a month it is painful.

Do the drivers report you if you run a little late?
