The Ultimate 777 vs A380 Thread
Ok let it rip.
The only proviso, being only posts from people who have piloted both the 777
and the A380.
They are the only ones whose opinions I would respect. i.e., like the Don.
I would be interested in those gent's take on it.

Meh. What's the "vs"? Apples and oranges.
I think I had the ultimate A380 setup.
- Rode in it multiple times.
- Never had to fly it.
- Got paid the same as the guys who did.
I consider that the triple win.

I used to fly Pitts Specials- Now THERE was an aircraft from a Pilots POV.
Shall we decided on the relative worth of the Pitts S2A v the A380 from that perspective?
I'd happily fly the A380 if I thought it was advantageous to my lifestyle-I understand it's a blast to fly.
Is that the sole criteria by which an aircraft is judged?
As it would be strange to compare a 737 vs the 777 ie: the 777 carries 200 more pax, weighs a 300t more and burns a shed load more gas than the 737. It is equally strange to compare the 380 vs the 777. One is a proven Ultra long range aircraft, and the other is a twin.
Lucky, the pay is the same. The only difference for an EK pilot is the roster. And we all know whoever is king of the rosters todays, will be dealing with the dog excrement tomorrow.

Nolimit - Fail.
The one thing the B777 rating didn't "fail" to do was provide instant alternative employment. At EK these days, THAT is the most important factor to consider when deciding which fleet is more desirable: which one gives you the better escape options.
In my opinion, hands-down the B777. But there's jobs galore elsewhere for experienced guys from all fleets.

Flown them both, prefer the bus but none of that matters, they are just aircraft, who gives a rats ass.
However, the only thing Super about the 380 is the rosters, one turn around a year is too many!

I would think being code F would be a little easier in a quad than a twin.

Only two sorts of aircraft : fighters and targets ....
so that question/competition is not of much interest. Same way as the lion, watching at the blesbok and the gemsbok competing against each other ....

For us as pilots, it makes **** all difference, other than the rosters associated with each a/c. However, to the company and industry that have to "live" with these aircraft and then return or sell them in the future....what will be the market. So if your plan is to stay here for 20 years, well then, it may make a difference.
Panther last time I checked the fleet you joined on wasn't your choice. Believe it or not 380 pilots are leaving to other jobs too. Who would have guessed?
Don, when I joined I was asked if I preferred 310/330 or 777. I said I wouldn't come if it wasn't 777 and in writing. I got it (although I know it wasn't worth the paper it was written on)! I also know of relatively recent courses where verbal commitments to type were not honoured, but as we all know we are the only ones accountable for our actions.
Clear to land,
Just like you said, any fleet offer aint worth the paper it is written on. As has been proven so many times.

The 380 increases my chances of getting out of Dubai on days off and leave, on sub load travel and the reverse on return, so it's a winner in my book.
As for sitting up front and flying the thing - I don't really care to be honest.
