Anyone offered DEC @ Jet2
I know at least one who is going 777 to 737, by choice.
Got the base he wanted and the roster is better.
A happy camper and the very best of luck to him!

How is that old story about the 747 pilot and the Piper Cub pilot thinking how they wish they would be flying that instead.....!
LOL.....! At one point we all realize that this gig is all about the time away from it......! The office is just an office!

Spot on there Dom.
I fly the 737 which is a comparably small jet and doesn't go very far but then at the end of the day all anyones job does for you is to provide an income so you can look after your wife and kids, house, educate, clothe, feed and take away for vacation from time to time. The individual might think they are fine and dandy sat in the front of a sparkly heavy jet tube but all your kids will think is the amount of time they dont see their mama or papa or miss important milestones in their lives because they are always away.
Am loving my days off and roster too so it may not be big but it sure works (the aircraft that is)

I think I am the first of the EK Skippers to join Jet2.
I apppreciate the decision may be a difficult one so please feel free to PM me and I'll give you some info and try to answer your queries. I can also contact the management team here in Jet2 if there's anything that I can't personally clarify. They are very open and helpful.
Thanks.

Absolutely not, firstly how could I hold my head high in public having flown the mighty B777! Who really wants to fly 600 hours a month unfactored with plenty of visual approaches, home most nights, living in the UK. I am sure you are much happier flying 110 hours a month unfactored getting 2-3 landings per month with the autopilot in at 200' and out at 800'!

Odins, I don't see the send message on your profile, have you allowed PMs?
I understand J2 have thought laterally , and tapped the large amount of
Unrest in the expat ranks, not just the ME. I'm not bothered about visual flying etc , done enought of that. More interested in seeing green fields and driving 20 mins to work with no A/C ! However , the pay, scary ( I think 85k ish basic?) Much much less than easyjet.
Who would you choise given the choice ?

New sign ups don't have PM access until they have established a posting history.
That's because frustrated spammers and lonely Nigerian ladies with locked bank accounts, finding our blocking systems too effective, turn to PM's
If that leaves you feeling left out on that type of PM I can start sending you samples....... Their attempts at establishing a posting history are often better fun though.

You know guys, I am very curious to know if, "all" these guys leaving Emirates, once out actually find a better place and a more stable life OR if they start their personal downhill spiral changing in worse... (And I would be very sorry of course)
This curiosity comes from, knowing that even if they have ALL the reasons to complain about Emirates, the awareness that outside the market is still a jungle.
So is the emirate's jungle worse then what you can find outside? I guess we will see it in the next year... The recent escapees cannot really say anything yet since they are still full of anger and the new world is still too green.

I had a look at Jet2 but it wasn't for me. The pay cut (50%) and loss of benefits was too much. I decided I would rather stay in the land of sand for a bit longer and retire a bit earlier- quite a bit earlier in fact.
Each to their own and good luck to those who have gone to (literally) greener pastures.

Jet 2 or similar Vs EK, it's horses for courses imho.
Jet 2 and Thomson have a 10 billion(est) claim for pax delays outstanding after losing a case last year.
The lure of sleeping in the same bed is very enticing, though to fly your roster in Low Cost and no night flights, you will be in and out of it VERY early. This has it's own fatiguing accumulation.
The money, or lack of, IS an issue. Especially if you have kids of school/uni age. The UK is not cheap.
EK simply has to improve or it will simply park jets, which costs heaps, and then end up like Gulf Air.
I for one am giving it a few months to see how the new appointees cope and what ideas they have to retain those of us already here.
If a 2 mth on 1 off system was brought in for us old farts I would stay. Apr 16 is our "redline" .

vfenext: I'm a captain at Jet2 who ironically wants to retire early, so am looking at moving to the Middle East (not EK)
But things have changed here to a large degree and not just receiving more and newer airfares( I know it's all relative!) But it's hardly a donkey. If only a few small things changed it would be a marvellous place to work.
Anyway, what to do outside the 2 flights I have this month.......
