Has anyone had success in swapping with these rosters this month?

So far, I've tried 6 and am 0-6!
The new reduction of threshold has actually made things WORSE!

Glad to be leaving shortly….

LHS on John Deere aka 777
85hrs, 4 days leave. 9 days off.

2nd top bid

Roster bears no likeness to my bids. Nada, nothing I bid for.

If you didn't get what you bid for, write a polite e mail to JA. I think there was a problem with the results, at least by the reply I got. Might not change sweet FA, but who knows.
I can't swap anything so far, the lower thresholds seems to be screwing that up. Not that anyone wants what I got Anyone for Africa??

I think there is now @ 1000/777 Caot or 200 / bid group . 2 nd top group puts you between 201 and 400 mid group 401 to 600 etc etc . Point being depending on what you bid for even in your top bid group the flts may be already taken.
Eg ; SEA daily 2 Capt's per flight @ 60 x 2 =120 , all 120 could be gone in your top bid if you are near the mid to bottom of your group. Does not happen that way but coould explain why some guys don't get what they bid for.

Keep in mind the numerous other bid restrictions we have no access to.

BTW

380 LHS
50 hrs
9 days off ( 4 before vacation)
7 days vacation
And the flights I bid for

The B777 rosters have not even been out 24 hours, hardly appropriate to be judging your lack of swap success in my opinion. Further, as a US citizen, you're biased towards ULR's with specific destinations and requirements for numerous days off in order to accommodate that request. In light of our rules on ULR's, that's an expectation which is bound to disappoint. For someone who's been here as long as you have, I'm surprised you haven't figured that out yet.

As for leaving, at your stage in the game I assume it's retirement rather than another employer, right? Have you set an actual date yet?

Well Harry, before you get bogged down with the ULR being the problem for swaps, I am sitting in top bid, got nothing I bid for, not even days off, the one ULR that I had bid for I did not get, (although funnily enough a mid-bid group friend did get one!) and the 8 swaps that I have looked at, I get the standard 2 responses : Hitting the 40 hour buffer of 900 hours in 12 months, and productivity.

Quite frankly, having a bid system gives a person an expectation of getting some of what they would like, but when a person at middle of his group in top bid gets sweet bugger all, well that expectation is crushed and disappointment ensues.

Is it any wonder that more and more CVs are hitting the desks of the contract companies?

Harry, Harry, Harry....

Dear boy.... You're wrong on each and every accusation. I had started to think you saw the light at the end of the tunnel being the proverbial oncoming EK train but seems you're still thinking it's not.

I don't bid for US flights... Seldom seemed to get them so gave up a few years ago actually.

Not retiring either, Harry. Do I look that old? :-) Going to another carrier that will appreciate my professional skills and dedication and show more respect that I (we) deserve .... and even for less pay. Not about money for me dear Harry. Rather, job satisfaction.. . Of which I have none at EK. Since I'm convinced things will not change here for quite some time, I've chosen "the door" the management team kept talking about.

Regards bidding.... I've usually had a bit more success in the past within 24 hours... Thus my comment.

congrats, KL. Took management's advice and took them up on their offer.

But you gotta love this.....published roster put me way into productivity, so tried to swap a similar trip over same days and system rejected it due to......productivity. You can't make this stuff up.

Not that any of us need any reminding, but there is something completely dysfunctional about the current rostering 'system.'

About to conclude my Reserve month in which I have done less than 40 hours and ONE simulator support. Efficient use of resources?

Yet the rest of us are out there doing 90+ hours.

Having utilised the 'Roster Search' function for July, there are between 70 and 125 assigned RSV duty on any particular day - and that's B777 Captains only!

Is there any wonder the line rosters are so ridiculous when 100 of us are out of the system every day, no doubt for 'operational flexibility.'

There was something in a recent Flight Ops "weekly" update to this fact. System can´t handle swaps in productivity so you have to request a manual swap, that should be actioned if the combined productivity between the two of you does not increase... At least that´s how I understood it...

777 RHS

14 Days Leave

66 Hours.

One positive, due to the leave I have been able to swap to make it even more hours but much better timings.

Tried this last month. Following 5 chase-up emails from both parties and 11 days after the initial correctly formatted request was made the swap was reluctantly approved. No cost to the company but several hours of time I will never get back.

2nd from top bid, been here 10 years. Not even the 2 off days I bid for, far less for the trips I wanted...
72 hrs, as I'm 900hrs for the last 12 Months..
All swaps rejected as I exceed 40hr buffer.

Meanwhile, over at the dark side that is FZ :
  • LHS in B738
  • Block Hours = 89:05
  • Flights = 11
  • Sim = 1
  • Duty Hours = 142:55
  • Standby's = 2
  • Days Off = 14 (5 of which are in a row)
Based on above, projected take-home pay for month of July = 63,170 Dhs ($17,199 USD / £10,934 GBP / €15,360 EUR)... and jet lag = 0 and number of sleeps in own bed at home = 31 !

There's a lot to be said for sleeping in your own bed for 31 nights, however I would be interested in the breakdown of your project take home salary for July, just want to make sure that we are comparing apples with apples...
