Yemen overfly ?

The Saudi Air Force has launched last night bombing raids on the Yemen capital Sanaa (probably using Tornadoes or F15s) and they did target, amongst others, the neighboring Air Force base. Antiaircraft missiles and artillery have been used against the attacking aircraft.
More attacks are planed in the coming days ...

Great - how long before an aircraft from an unsuspicious airline gets shot down anove this place by a missile, of which he was not the target (as in Ukraine last year, for those with a short memory)
For how long are we still going to overfly this country ?

Or maybe they will publish a Notam, preventing flights below FL XXX, because an aircraft has just been shot down at FL XXX-2000 ft ?

The unmentionable has already stopped flying through the Sanaa FIR. Others will surely follow!

I think soon there will be bigger problems than overflying Yemen.
Saudi arabia, Uae and other countries bombed Sanaa....... now it will be quite worrying......

FZ, have just issued a FlightCrewNotice to inform us that overflights of Yemen are now stopped until further notice.

A large no fly zone has been imposed, by Saudi Arabia, in the north of Yemen, and in conjunction with that the Yemen FIR is now also out of bounds.

The only FZ flight directly effected is its 4x per week (FZ603) service to Aden. That said, with having to fly around the no-fly zone, flights out of the UAE to East & Central Africa will necessarily be longer and, in some instances, might rub up against the FDP limits for an 'out & back' in the same duty period, and / or that some will likely require an ETOPS dispatch and a flight out over the Indian Ocean.

Yemen Airspace

A neighbours husband who was on board QR from Doha to Cape Town last night said that one hour into the flight the aircraft was "hit" and diverted back to Doha. I've heard nothing heard on the news but this guy was on board and stated that "screaming passengers " awoke him from his slumber before the aircraft returned. This is a rumour network so any updates or rebuttals welcomed

absolutely flareflyer,
who cares about a rerouting, you poke once too often and somebody will poke back. The gulf is heading towards a very hot summer imho.

Thanks for the clarification Empennage. My info came from the social media feed of the gentlemans wife so not a first hand confirmation of the details hence the request for further info. Regards, Dave
