Don't forget the Vincennes crew received medals for their service.

Well then I guess it's 2-1 to the Russians because of KAL 007.

Actually 3 - 1 as the Russkies shot down a Korean 707(also off course). They are experts at slaughtering. Themselves, Ukranians in the 1930's, starting WWII in the 30's by invading Poland along with Hitler.

Putin at 86% support. Scary people. Thank goodness for the anglos making this a decent world for those wishing to be civilized.

My God Punkawallah,

Were you hatched out of an egg?

It's time for you to go back to school and re-read some of your history.

Don't rely on the civilised West for any moral leadership either; The Inquisition, genocide of the American Indians, the Slave Trade, Colonialisation, WW1 & WW2, Child abuse from within the Church, etc etc.

and the America hating starts….

First of all, yes it was a tragic mistake and shouldn't have happened. It was not intentional as the Iranians and others claim.

Few facts about the Iran Air 655 shoot down,

1. the USS Vincennes was already being attacked by 8 patrol gun boats, so they are under attack at the time. They thought Iran launched some military fighter towards them in addition to the gun boats. Bander Abbas is a dual role civilian/military airport.

2. This Airbus 300 was not monitoring 121.5 so it ignored repeated warnings. A simple response and vector on 121.5 would have ended the threat.

3. The Airbus 300 was also not transmitting its weather radar. Civilian weather radar paints a very distinct signature that the USS Vincennes would have seen and have not fired.

4. Yes, the USS Vincennes was in Iranian territorial waters at the time, but those pesky Iranians kept intercepting neutral cargo ships in that very narrow strait (21nm wide).

End of the day, a US war ship shoots down a target flying directly toward it, while under fire.

The Russians give weapons to a bunch of bumf*ck separatists who shoot down MH17. I don't see a comparison.

Also a note for all the America haters. America will pull out of the Middle East someday. When that day comes, who will protect UAE?

I can guarantee you Russia/China/Iran will be less compassionate.

And if anyone thinks TWA800 was shot down, America also staged the moon landing. You would think some small Ensign eye witness would have squealed if TWA 800 was shot down by now.

The inquisition....by anglos?(so much for schooling) but darn good that it kicked out the major group it kicked out.
Genocide of American Indians....the end result has prevented much worse countries being the sole superpower, thank goodness as the alternative future was an America like present day New Guinea.
Slave trade...not nice but the biggest beneficiaries are the descendants.
Colonialisation.....improved health and education, ending of cannibalism, etc.
WWI and WWII....prevention of nasty powers running the world.
Child abuse in the church......a church related phenomenon that runs across many cultures(once again schooling required).

Of course some bad things did happen and a willingness to examine and admit. Now a different era.

As for the Russkies, try making a Fahrenheit 9/11 style movie in that country about Putin. See where you end up.

Anyways, time to move a political thread to Jetblast.

Okay so with TWA800 that's 2/2 for Russia and USA. Where will the decider be and which airline?

TWA - hmmmm.... not sure if it really counts as it was an own-goal but it seems to have been allowed, although on closer inspection the yanks do seem to be edging ahead a little if you also count blackhawks and Tornados.

Has anyone else shot down an airliner??

Only the stupid believe TWA 800 was shot down.
As stated earlier, the Russians are at least three with the Korean 707. Israel took out a Libyan 727. Somebody in NATO shot down an Italian MD80, even the Ukranians shot down a Russian Tupolev about a decade ago.

Probably old props as well, but I'm sticking to jets for now.

Kommrade Muttley Crew, I see no point in debating how evil America is when you fail to list your home country.

Which socialist paradise do you call home?

Why should I, you didn't put yours. Anyway it says "Location" not "country of accidental birth."

Still, in the interest of keeping you happy, Nipples, I have updated to current location, as per.

People love to bash Americans and America in the good times......but......in the bad times when you and your allies are having your asses handed to you on a platter or when you need multi-national support your countries come begging for help and we come running. That needs to stop.

Pilotday - goodness me, that's quite a tirade. And mostly nonsense. You obviously know next to nothing about military operations, particularly naval ones.

1. the USS Vincennes was already being attacked by 8 patrol gun boats, so they are under attack at the time. They thought Iran launched some military fighter towards them in addition to the gun boats. Bander Abbas is a dual role civilian/military airport.
They followed the patrol boats into Iranian waters (a defacto invasion, after having done something similar in Omani waters on the same day). They also neglected the most basic of anti air warfare identification principles. The other warships in the group thought the Captain of the Vincennes must have lost his marbles when he announced he was attacking.
Do you really think sending a Ticonderoga after some gunboats is an appropriate response?

2. This Airbus 300 was not monitoring 121.5 so it ignored repeated warnings. A simple response and vector on 121.5 would have ended the threat.
Nonsense. How many aircraft fail to neglect 121.5 on a daily basis? Do they deserve to be blown out of the Sky because 'Merica says so?

3. The Airbus 300 was also not transmitting its weather radar. Civilian weather radar paints a very distinct signature that the USS Vincennes would have seen and have not fired.
Not having your Wx radar on is quite permissible. However ESM did not show any hostile search/fire control radar from the aircraft because there wasn't any. It was squawking in Mode 3, in accordance with its clearance. It was also in the climb. It was also on an airway and perfectly identifiable as an airliner - all the other US ships in the group had identified it as such.

4. Yes, the USS Vincennes was in Iranian territorial waters at the time, but those pesky Iranians kept intercepting neutral cargo ships in that very narrow strait (21nm wide).
What's your point? That justifies mass murder through utter negligence and disregard for RoE or established identification procedures?

End of the day, a US war ship shoots down a target flying directly toward it, while under fire.
Do you sit on your porch all day with a shotgun, glaring at people?

The Captain of the Vincennes was reckless, undisciplined and overly aggressive. He had no place being in Command of a US Warship and if you are from the States, you should be damned ashamed of what happened that day You are very quick to use the words "socialist paradise" or similar on any thread you get involved in. Well, you supposedly come from the world's greatest democracy - perhaps you should have a think about what that means.

I get it. America bad.

Don't worry, the "yanks" will pull out eventually and take care of things back home instead of protecting their allies. Have fun with your new world police, Russia. Good luck with that! Most Americans are tired of sending money and losing lives protecting people that hate them.

Another "Yank hater" that refuses to publish his home country. Its pointless to debate anything when its all America bad, end of story.

Now lets get back on topic, chemtrails and TWA being shot down.
